Failure patching to BTS 3.19 on an external drive

I have a copy of Civilization with Warlords and BTS installed on an external drive I take around with me when I travel out of town, since I don't have admin access on the work laptop. I tried patching the game to version 3.19, but when I try to run the patcher, I just get an error saying that Civilization 4 isn't properly installed. Is there any way I can use the patcher to patch a version of the game on an external drive?

what patch version is BtS currently?

It looks like the install might be corrupted, so I might not be able to tell you. I'll get it reinstalled when I next can, and see if the issue is still there.
