Fall Further World Size and Speed

You should be familiar with this mod. If not, it adds two new speeds (Blitz, which is super-Quick, and Snail, which is longer than Marathon) and two new world sizes (Giant and Gigantic, 50% and 134% bigger than Huge respectively). It took me a bit of work to convert, and I had to add a few values, but I balanced everything out as best I could using the existing settings for guidance.

sweet, because I like fast speeds for games

I think I'll steal this for my own mod for the larger world sizes. I love the idea of being able to play with every civilization in the game on one big map. I might have to tweak diplomacy quite a bit so annihilation isn't the only reason to wage war (and is harder to accomplish, through war weariness or other factors).

I will warn you now - even more than regular civ, a Giant map takes a while to load. And honestly unless you're running 3.5-4 gigs of RAM, I wouldn't even go NEAR Gigantic - and even if you do, expect it to take a long time to initialize.

Looks interesting. Excuse my computer ignorance, but what do I do with the unzipped xml files?

I'm sure I'm setting myself up for a bad time though as I end up cursing Huge maps and Marathon speed.

And those are the ones I like to play the most, haha. What worries me, though (probably it's my crappy comp), is the turn times (and crashes) that i'll have to suffer by the end of the game. Otherwise, I would jump to these in a heartbeat.

BTW, I LOVE FFH, FF, Orbis and all the things you guys did to vanilla Civ4. Please, continue your amazing job !

Cheers.

@_@

I've stopped playing huge maps now. I only play on large. I think I'll stay away from even bigger mapsizes. The MAF issues are enough as-is.

I don't intend on using huge until I can figure out what's causing the crashing.

As for computer specs, the only thing I worry about is my processor. At a paltry 2.4 ghz. Civ4 was not meant to run on a multi-core processor. On the plus side, if it takes too long I can run it in a window and do something else while I wait. It'd be like a PBEM, only faster!

Do I need something other than the 3 .xml files to install this?

No, those three files should be all you need - though take note I haven't made Giant or Gigantic versions of the scenario maps, so it'll only work with the Erebus-related map-scripts (Erebus, Erebus Continent, Creation, MountainCoast, etc). They give you the new speed settings and size settings, and add culture thresholds for each speed - with Blitz requiring half as much culture as Quick and Snail requiring twice as much as Marathon.

Thank you for fielding that one Valkrionn. And of course all credit goes to the guy who originally did these new sizes and speeds, plus a little for me because I had to adapt them to Fall Further (which has certain gameplay concepts not used in the original that I had to adapt to). But mostly that guy.

Yes, let us never forgot "that guy". Thanks dude I think I may brave a giganto map tonite.

NOTE: I unzipped all three files into the directory as specified. No problem with Game Speed and the Maps (although in the menu there is some gibberish), BUT for some reason the one on Cultural Level really screwed up my game/mod. I had to delete FF50 and reinstall everything with the patch.

Now to put back in all my game settings again. :(

Just wanted to let you know there is a problem with your new map sizes. I am trying out a Giant map and resource icons seem to be vanishing.

It might be a little hard to tell from the attached screenshot, but there is CORN NE of the city. You can see the result of the mouseover indicating Corn, but it is not represented on the map.

It was there a few turns ago, but has disappeared.

Well, thank you for your efforts, Thuellai. :goodjob:

However, as I feared, I am less than 200 turns into my game using your Giant-sized map and I am having to wait 2-3 minutes for my next turn. I can't imagine what it will be like in another 500 turns or so.

Also, another strange thing...

I'm playing as the Scions/Risen Emperor and I have received more than 30 Awakeneds before Turn 200. I never saw anything like this before and I'm wondering if map size has something to do with how fast they are pop up.

Again, thanks for your work, but I guess I am back to the good ole Large maps again. :(

you might very well need them that fast...

civ_king has a point. On a giant map your enemies will have much more room to expand and thus be able to build huge empires - having a lot of Awakened might be the only possible counter. Also it probably has to do with event scaling - I followed the pattern and increased that.

Also, yeah, cultural level data gets weird. I'm still playing with it - I'm not surprised there are some issues.
