Falling asleep while playing

I tought I could share this with you!

Wednesday I was playing a game witch was a fun game ... early war, nice tech race ... the works...... but I fell asleep right in the middle of the game ... my hand on the mouse and the other hand on the keyboard sitting in my computer chair.

I fell asleep for at least one hour and a half. I feel like I dont get sleep enough or I play too much (I dont feel I pllay too much I play roughly 10 hours tops a week).

Did this ever happened to you??????

I've found myself nodding off around 12:30 or 1:00 AM. But I actually fight it instead of just going to bed. (Just... one... more... turn...).

Hahaha, I work shift work and have to turn my body clock around to stay up all night sometimes. Playing Civ4 is the only thing that KEEPS me up all night. Everything else I fall asleep, but playing Civ4 it's always...just...one...more....turn.

I dont like playing the same game for a prolonged period... because it spills over into my dreams as my brain becomes obbsessed with figuring the game out...

a few games have done it to me, but its horrible, I get no sleep and in the games I'm often in a position thats impossible to get out of...

This game is a nightmare for college students. Especially when you're not busy all day like you are when you've got a full time job, you're less tired at night - you simply don't nod off. I can remember playing Civ III through 6:00 AM, sometimes to 8:00 AM, now that's unhealthy. :[

It hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm sure the day isn't far off. I keep telling myself I need to catch up on my sleep, so "I'll only play until 10:30 or so tonight".

Next time I glance at the clock, it's 2 am...

my time keeps growing. First, I made a rule that I would turn it off by 11 pm. Then it grew to 11:15. Now it's 11:30. Every week or so I add a little more time to try to get in some more turns.

I did it on purpose once with Civ III. I sometimes have trouble falling asleep if I'm trying to fall asleep, so I usually combat that by putting on a TV show or a movie on my laptop and falling asleep to that. Out of curiosity, I tried that with Civ while lying in bed and it did work.

I LMAO when I read this, this was me with the original Civ, up until 6am playing on my roommates computer and forgetting about exams the next day. Not good, but it did get me interested in computers and got me where I am today, so Civ helped me get started in my career!!!!

Funny this thread appeared. I have started napping regularly while playing Civ. I find it so relaxing, even more than watching tv. You put your mind into this world and then drift off. . .

I gave up with this method. This simply doesn't work for me.
After having tried everything to maintain a minimal amount of sleep, I just came to the conclusion I had not to play anymore in the evening, because I simply can't stop. I had a time limit (10:30 PM) which I overpassed every night, and the following work days were too difficult.
I already felt asleep while playing. What a weird feeling

What's annoying is that when you wake up from a nice little doze you find that the little men on the screen are still bashing away, but haven't yet finished their bit of road.

Since you don't mention what your career is, it's hard to tell if that's a good thing or not.

I've never fallen asleep during a game. Mostly because I have control of my Onemoreturnisitis under control, so I'm asleep by the time midnight rolls around.

I've often had Civ-related dreams. I'm trying to find my way on some truly bizarre map, which can be anything from a semi-normal kind, to one that sort of resembles the Nona map in Test of Time (but which has far stranger colors), to one in which the map is actually a HUGE giant-sized house and the Barbarian enemies are dustbunnies -- and the only way you get to another map level is by finding a certain crack in a baseboard (much like the Midgaard scenario in ToT). But the most bizarre one was fully three-dimensional; I'd been shrunk down to fit the map, and the vegetation and animals were real. I quickly discovered that the birds were also quite deadly, as I tried to dodge the killer songbirds (I think a Speedy Eggbert game had some influence in this dream too, as there are scenarios in that game that contain killer bluebirds). The map dreams I actually don't mind are ones where it's an outer space map or one with lots of islands in a huge ocean. I can build my transports, explore without being killed by lethal songbirds, and find reasonably safe places for my cities.

As for falling asleep while I'm actually playing? Yes, I've done that. That's why I tend not to play the music; it's too hypnotic at times.

Isn't it scary when that happens? When you get those hyrbrid civ-like/life-like dreams where you're endlessly micro-managing. Then you live things out in some sort of freaky turn-based fashion. You use logic that you'd usually use in a civ game for analysing an everyday challenge or event.
Playing a game for several hours before going to bed can really make dreams weird. Unfortunately, like you noticed, these dreams aren't particularly comforting or enjoyable. Frankly, they're disturbing.
Playing a civ game is an alternate reality literally. When playing civ, you live in the civ reality. When doing everyday things in real-life, you live your real reality (gee these terms are getting confusing - real reality.. now there's tautology for ya). While in this civ reality, things from the real reality will seem less important and it's not surprising that people can lose track of real-life time. One could even forget to eat or sleep if the mind is engrossed enough in this civ world. Hey, one could even forget about those who are most important to them in real-life, while in the civ reality..
Anyway, in one's dreams, these realities merge. I don't get these dreams anymore because I'm over playing civ for several hours at a time. In fact, I rarely play civ anymore because it's such a time-consumer and I usually have more important things to do.

Civ's a game. So is life. I like to play both.

Oh, and to the OP, I've never fallen asleep playing civ though I've certainly gotten tired. I don't think I could ever fall asleep at a computer. It's too uncomfortable... unless I got a really comfy chair.
