I need a little English language help here...

My reputation as pirate often end up as famous or infamous. Which is better? Normally, "infamous" would be bad, but a pirate would perhaps prefer it over "famous".
Is infamy regarded as "better" than fame in this game?

Commodore 64 version.

Infamous can also be used as ''not famous'' . I'm pretty sure your going for famous.

I disagree. Famous means you have achieved fame while infamous you have achieved fame that will never be forgotten. I think that is about the sum of it.

Ah, the C-64 version. Good times. IIRC, the reps were in order: unknown, promising, well-known, famous, notorious, and finally INFAMOUS!

At least one error here. I can't recall it all, so I went over to the wall with old games, found two boxes of Pirates, opened one of them and read the manual. The reputation is not listed in the manual.

But not everything is forgotten, I do remember that "famous" is ranked as 1 or 2. If "infamous" is the top reputation, then "famous" is 2.

Apart from this, I don't see something wrong with your list.

Sorry, but not quite. Famous vs. Infamous is the difference between good deeds and bad. Infamy requires bad deeds. A case could be made that it requires bad deeds that aren't quite all the way to heinous. Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor is described as a day which will live in Infamy. Germany's treatment of Jews (and others) in the camps needs a stronger word.

I agree.
See famous and infamous. Infamy.
In the real world, we do know the difference. Few of us would want to be infamous.

But most pirates would perhaps prefer infamy over fame. Actually, being a famous (good/kind) pirate sounds a bit self-contradictory. I think few pirates fell into that category...

In the game Pirates, you can do "good" things and achieve fame by serving your country I guess. Robbing enemies of your country. Perhaps fame and infamy is equal in Pirates.
