FAQ's on Installation & Patches

Thank you very, very much :)

Help, I cannot patch to the official 3.17 patch!

It must be b/c I purchased BtS as a software download (and of course, I forget the site).

When I run the patch installer i get the error "CivIV:BtS has not been installed. This patch requirec CivIV:BtS" (paraphrased). :suicide:

Anyone have this problem, or know of a fix?

Bought Vanilla 1.09, patched it to 1.61, played it.
Bought Warlords, installed it, ran whatever patch. Played it.
Bought BTS, installed it, ran whatever patches. Played it.
Decided to clear up some disk space by erasing all kinds of old stuff -- Rome Total War, my wife's stupid Sims2 stuff, and Warlords. After uinstalling Warlords, BTS started generating errors on launch, something about the Python not working.
So....
Uninstalled BTS and Vanilla. Reinstalled Vanilla. Struggled with patching issue, but figured out that installing 1.61 and then 1.74 worked, and would then let me install BTS. Much progress...

Now, however, when I try to reinstall BTS, as it begins installation I get a message saying that there's some type of a Warlords file redundancy conflict and the installation stops.

Arghhh!

Help appreciated.

I had a problem installing the patch cause it said it couldn't find the BTS. Then I went on uninstalling and removing everything and found out that BTS didn't want to install (setup wouldn't even start).
After lurking around the web, I found out that if we copy the contents of the dvd into one folder (or all the cd's into the same folder) it will install.
So I went on and copied the dvd into a folder and it started installation - however, as I didn't update my warlords to the latest, it crashed when doing so, so I went to dl the latest warlords patch and installed. I also got the August 08 directx redistributable package and copied into the directx folder, so I would get the latest directx 9.0c version. After all the install (it does give a small install shield message, but of no importance), I went on to patching and it went perfect. Now patching the patch with the latest stuff and putting some mods....

Hope this can help out some people who cannot reinstall BTS....

I've checked for updates in the menu screen of BTS, and it still has the patch 3.17. Now everytime I click to install it, it takes a ridiculous amount of time; in fact, I always end up restarting the game. Is it common to wait that long, say, more than 5-10 minutes, or should the patch be done installing in a matter of seconds? judging the size of the file, it must install very quickly, I think

the patch is extremely big - and with a fast internet connection you should get it within about 20 minutes or so - seconds is really pushing it ;)
however the ingame updater is broken so it won't do anything - download the patch from this site instead.

Welcome to cfc :)

Q. Do I need to have Warlords installed to play BTS?

A. No. It is not required. Everything from Warlords is included with BTS EXCEPT the scenarios.

First of all, I realise that I am probably ******** for asking this, but I'd rather be thorough.

I don't own any expansions as I have had almost zero time to play games over the last 4 years. I have some free time again, and wanted to upgrade my copy of Civ 4.

Basically, my question is, is the answer to the above question 100% accurate? I'll get all the new civs in Warlords, new leaders, etc. I don't care about the scenarios, as I really want BTS to play the latest versions of FFH and RFC.

Out of curiosity, what scenarios shipped with Warlords?

I can't seem to upgrade my Civ 4 to this version. It seems stuck at 3.13 whether I try to upgrade manually or automatically.

I should say I bought the UK version of Beyond the Sword but it appears to be only version 3.13. I downloaded the 3.17 version and tried to update it manually but that seems to have failed.

That is important since I want to use the "Planetfall" MOD which requires 3.17.

I gotta say I am rather disappointed with my problem. This is iteration IV of Sid Meier's Civilization and I don't think I should be having a problem like this. :(

Ok, I'm having a few problems with the vanilla version, but I think installing BtS can help solve them. Please let me know if I'm right, so I don't download a useless 1.32 GB game. ;)

Whenever I first got Civ 4, back in 2005, Disc 1 installed the game, but Disc 2 did not play it. So I put Disc 1 into the drive, and voila, it worked. Now, in 2008, Disc 1 has been irreparably damaged by carelessness on my brother's part... Sheesh. Disc 2 still does not work.

What if I purchased the Bts download from EB Games online, and downloaded it? Would it play no problem? Or do I still need Disc 1 in the CD drive for the expansion pack to function?

I am glad to be able to report I successfully updated to 3.17 and can now run Planetfall.

There appear to be two MOD folders in my Civ IV BTS so I installed the mod into both of them, and one of them obviously worked! Not elegant, I know but there it is. :)

I still have SMAC on my hard drive. I would like to install the Peacekeepers sound to my Peacekeepers game with Civ IV. Any advice, please?

I'm playing with Bhruic's 3.13 version right now....should I download the 3.17 patch?

What's the best way to do it?..... re-install the game from cd and then download the patch?? I only play single player games.

is the 3.17 official patch broken or really big which makes it take forever to download. It's been going for 20 min and nothings happening
