I miss certain avatars, yes. But I find that if I have avatars on, the nature of the avatar affects the tone I visualize the post in.
For example, I see all of Godwynn's posts in the light of a gruff, serious-faced dead general (in a Santa hat, provided, but that's not the point). It just doesn't make sense.
