Favorite leader of a country

Was not a leader ;)

But my favorite president would probably be Johnson. Because of the Great Society and Civil Rights Act. And his beagles.

WHY!!!!!

Donkey brainswashing;)

I'd not identify as a Republican, but their leaders are so much better than people like Johnson.

As far as sheer leadership, Washington and Lincoln can't be beat, as far as America, however I'd really side with Jefferson a lot on political issues.

Churchill can't be beat for sheer leadership though (I don't know anything about him outside WWII) but he was a hero, boldly fighting alone against the Nazi Threat.
FDR was a good war leader, but there were a lot of people who could have no doubt done just as well. But Churchill was something unique, fighting when there was no hope.

Actually, I suppose the average British tommy was doing a little more of fighting than Churchill

But Churchill was something unique, fighting when there was no hope.
Churchill still had his empire intact, and his home country not invaded.
De Gaulle also chosed to fight with no hope, and his country invaded and defeated.

I suppose that's although the others saw no hope, they did.

True enough about De Gaulle.

America deserved little respect in that war, cowering in their strongholds, continuing to wait for the New Deal to help them (It never did.)

This comes from an American.

Mussolini

I mean, look at him. He's a bloody cartoon character.

Richard Nixon. He wasn't born into a family with good social status, he wasn't charismatic nor was he very good looking. He seems to be one of the few US politicians to have gotten their career (and the presidency) through sheer force of will. He may have been a jerk, but there is something respectable about that.

There's something awesome about Constantius III, the soldier-emperor who was ugly as sin but managed to marry a princess. Apparently he was pretty laid back. Liked hanging out with court jester types and such.

Also, Winston "Keep England White" Churchill? Really?

Also, wasn't Churchill very enthusiastic about the Italians gassing Libyans or something like that? A useful tool of colonial oppression or something along those lines?

I remember reeading some quote from him to the effect of 'Gas them, they ar eonly {offensive racial slur directed at blacks] but it was about Iraqis, shows how much he knew

I never said I liked his politics, I said he had style. He was a war-time Prime Minister as well, so he didn't get around to much policy-making, as my understanding is.

Gordon Brown

I actually really liked Brown, one is one of my favourite personalities among current politicians. He's just so opposite to the stereotypical charismatic politician that I can't help but root for him. It really showed in the recent campaign. Probably because its how I would act when forced to be personable with people I don't give a (feces) about.
