Favorite map size?

Small and Standard. I prefer small myself. 90% of my wins are dominations, with the other 10% being Diplomatic, and the odd spaceship/conquest thrown in when I feel like doing that instead.

huge. it use to lag but i turned off a lot of the animations from other civs and that sped things up.

i love huge pangea maps. oddly enough i went to huge pangea from small to medium archipelago maps.

That bugs me, too. but it's very satisfying when you've whittled them down so they do fit on the diplo screen. :D

As for map sizes, different maps for different games...but I have to say I do like Huge games (I'm still a milker at heart).

Tiny, but with 31 civs. That's a lot of fun.

AlCosta can you show me where to get the mod that would allow for that? I've been wondering how to increase the number of civs on the smaller maps. Maybe no mod is necessary, I just haven't looked at the new game set up closely enough?

Ah I see the answer has been posted already. Time to learn all about the editor ....

Any mod can do that, but now I've been playing Sword of Geddon's Heart of Destiny Mod. But you can do it yourself with the editor and set all map sizes to play 31 civs.

Me to , and lovin it, say, Im using a 196x196, 18 Civs, 70% aqua, continent Map. Its Running fast, by that I mean less then a minute between turns in year 400ad . Im just curoius hows your map size/ performance working for you? Do you sqeeze all the Civs on the map? Wondering on this particular mod if thats a big slowdown more then map size is. Thanks for any feedback

I played 31 civs on a large map for my first emperor game recently and got my tuckus gang-stomped by the Mongols and Zulus. Of course I modded the game to make all the units super cheap and 2-3 times faster than normal (but buildings and wonders cost the same). I was hoping to have lots of pitched megabattles, but instead I simply got butchered, losing two capitals in succession and giving away my best port city to the Mongols just to get peace out of them.

Next time I try that, it's back to regent for me.

I usta always go with the huge or large maps, thinking a bigger playground is always more fun. But after several 100+ hour games that never get finished, I'm starting to wonder what a small planet would be like.

Anything past standard and it's super slow for me. Besides, my regent standard games take 5 hours! Dang I suck...

Anything smaller than standard and it'll last less than an hour. Too fast to have fun.

So, standard.

Huge :smug: usualy
Large for short games. ;)

I like playing the huge maps. Thats when alliances, trades, etc. really shine.

Nothing better than another country invading a good ally and mobilizing my military, moving them over to the friend country, and then kicking the aggressors butt.

Yes I love a good giga on the right mod, of course. Strange, but you can find some mods that are faster then others when it comes to giga. I don't just mean Rhyes, which is the most famous for speed, lots of others out there, and just as many turtles!

My most recent huge game took 55 hours O_O
55 hours is short when you compare it to this. :p

OMG! How large is that map? Did you just the leave the game up while not playing for large peiords of time?

Most impressive, Tomoyo. And I see you gained time (about 3 weeks) by playing civ?
If only it were possible, I lose time instead.

I wonder what the biggest map ever finished was?!!, This one might have made the top 5. or mybe she just got the nod afew hours every time she played. Long times between turns can induce those  !

she?

Getting to future tech on a huge map by this date was pretty good going, Tomoyo. What was the domination limit just out of interest (if you know it)?
