What is your favorie Role Playing Game?

I only included those that I know about and those I tried, so please if you prefer one that is not in the list talk about it...

By the way my favorite one is Ars Magica followed very close by Vampire: The Masquerade and Mage: The Ascension.

Hmm... the system I liked the best was Legend of the Five Rings, and that was a great game, but it didn't have the staying power. The game I enjoyed playing the most was my endless Star Wars campaign back in High School.
Only thing I've played over the last few years has been D&D. Its just too popular amongst the tabletop people to find much of anything else.

Star wars here. Of course if you include ALL RPGS(meaning add in computer/console RPGS) I would have a different opinion.

D&D 3e. I enjoyed the ideas behind White Wolf's World of Darkness but the rules were a bit cumbersome IMO.

Fallout 2 is the best RPG I've ever played (though I haven't played many RPGs).

different type of RPG, they mean the games involving dice.

Coincidently, Fallout 2 is my fav as well.

I also must say fallout 2. I havn't tried number one but i wish i had. Hmmm actually fallout 2 ties a good snes RPG. Chrono Trigger. I love the oldschool SNES rpgs, they are some of the best ones.

Over 22 years ago, I played Zork on a mainframe for the first time. But then I Played STARTR & Capt Kirk, LOL.... so my answer is "none of the above".... but maybe Warcraft II would almost qualify, heheee... :)

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, 2nd Edition.
One's favourite; the only one, and thats the way it'll stay.:king:

D&D a loooong time ago, the only other one I ever played was set in space and called "traveller" from memory. I haven't played either for around 15 years.

I don't know exactly what you mean but I was curius becose I think that the 3rd edition su** and that the 2nd with the expension "skills and powers" is what is best in D&D...

I agree on the first part.
Skills and powers was alright, and quite fun, but the flavour of the original was quite unique and great.
One is also a big fan of 1st Edition AD&D, but not as much.

To me, D&D will always be that good old Red Box Basic set that got me started on the road. A different and good thing.

Don't know why they dropped the "Advanced" from the title...

Not my cup of tea, '3e'...

Boy, this brings back memories.

What I've played...

D&D, the original
Basic D&D
Advanced D&D 1st edition, 2nd edition, and 3rd edition
Champions (Hero System) 2nd edition, 3rd edition, and 4th edition
GURPS Supers
Vampire: The Masquerade
Mage: The Ascension (uncredited playtester)
Fudge
MegaTraveller
Palladium, 1st edition
Star Wars RPG

Of all these, I'd have to say the best is the Hero System, 4th edition. AD&D, 2nd edition is a close second.

The worst of the lot is Mage: The Ascension. I'm pretty sure I was uncredited as a playtester because my playtester report was absolutely scathing. I saw a copy of the book after release, and they had changed nothing from the playtest copy. So much for playtesting.

Gosh. I quit a longtime campaign because I couldn't stand playing D&D 2nd edition any longer. My former group actually switched to 3rd edition so I would give it another try.
Much better system. 2nd edition was designed to force players to memorize and buy the maximum amount of books in order to enjoy the game. It seems like half the rules were designed to reduce the amount of fun or originality one could have with the game. Then they spent a decade adding small side-rules that threw the balance of the game into a tizzy.
:vomit:
I don't doubt you guys have nice memories playing the game, but that probably has more to do with the group than the system.

No, I liked the system and the rules very much. They 'clicked' with me, and I don't really understand the criticism that they cop.

Why Mage: The Ascension is so bad? I don't think so... it's one of the best! may the magic is a bit weird to grasp but when done it's well worthed...
