What are your favourite units and why from the different eras?
I like Archers (good on Defence and Offence)
Musketeers (same)
Nukes (Hee Hee Hee)

My favourite? Engineers! No question. What other unit can be used in attack, defence and can improve terrain?

The camels/freights!
They bring in money, improve science and they're a lot of fun. Searching out cities that demand their goods and then journeying there are very rewarding experiences.

Favorite military unit is the tank. Great movement, defense and offense........
 
Knights.
Knights rule. But it's mainly a carry over from Civ 1 where my knights owned the world!!!! (Of course there were no Elephants or Crusaders in Civ 1 and a Legion was 3-2-1. Anyway....)

I like midevil combat. Knights, Crusaders, Legions, Elephants, and then I get musketters and I'm untouchable.

Actually....scratch that. I like Dragoons better. I use them MUCH more than knights after I get gunpowder. But then again....I guess that's just evolution.

Stealth fighters. They kick serious booty! I love that you can attack up to fourteen times in one turn with them; you can take down an entire army division.

Archers in ancient times. Dragoons & Musketeers next. Then, like Blue Monday, I think stealth fighters are awesome.
 
Tanks are the best unit. They also make great defensive units because you can always activate them in your cities and send them along the railroads to sort out any uprisings. It might be a bit cheeky, but I never get mechanised infantry because I can't stand the barbarians having partisans and so I never research Guerilla Warfare.
No-one else gets the chance to.....
Marines are pretty damn good too, with a good defense to follow up the bombardment that enemy ports receive from my battleships and cruisers. I haven't really used Paratroopers much, but it seems strange that helicopters can't carry them.

All you need is horses. they are only 20 gold. you should start building them right away and explore the world. you will find lots of huts very fast with these cheap fast units. they can also be used to block terrain and kill the early cities of your opponent (horse wins against defense from warriors).

if you find mapmaking or pottery, it is possible to go for seafaring fast, especially when its a big map. with explorers, you find huts now 3 times faster then horses can.

In many games, the one who finds the most huts and is able to block of the enemy terrain best, wins the game. The game is all about land. if you posses more land then your opponent, you will win. horses and explorers are the key to this.

2 Warriors cost the same as 1 Horse, and explore faster, and don't require a specialized tech, so they start exploring sooner. They are equally effective at blocking terrain, and are less of a loss (i.e., half a Horse) sitting there fortified, yet are just as strong defensively. Horses are better at attack, tho.
 
I'd say my favorite ground unit is Cavalry. Once I get 'em, there's no stoppin' me. Although, I tend t' use Howitzers a lot in the end of the game and catapults with phalanxes in the beginning. My favorite naval unit would be the AEGIS Cruiser. Nice against missiles. Favorite air unit would be the Stealth Fighter. Nice for clearin' enemies outta the land. And m favorite missile unit would be the Cruise Missile 'cause I hate nukes.
 
I don't really have a favorite unit, so much as I like to always be one ahead (technologically speaking) of my enemies. When everyone else has warriors, I like phalanx, archers, and legionniers; when everyone has those I like musketeers and crusaders, etc.

What I DON'T like is the %^$#(*! warriors. They're completely useless; just about everything else in the game can beat them. I only build 'em if I have no other choice, or if I get them by entering a goody hut. Then, as soon as opportunity arises, I take them to the nearest city and disband them to use the production shields for a more useful unit...

dragoons, legions and partisans. just because they are so cool. the coolest civ wins.
