Favourite Quote

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." - George Santayana, discovering Archaeology

Also the quote for Forbidden Palace mentioned many times in this thread.

There are quite a few I like. Such as:

"The Law is a fortress on a hill that armies cannot take or floods wash away."

"Every genuine work of art has as much reason for being as the earth and the sun."

"The ancient Oracle said that I was the wisest of all the Greeks. It is because I alone, of all the Greeks, know that I know nothing."

"Things always seem fairer when we look back at them, and it is out of of that inaccessible tower of the past that Longing leans and beckons."

"There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance."

"The night is far spent, the day is at hand; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light."

"Their rising all at once was as the sound of a thunder heard remote."

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy burdened, and I will give you rest."

"We only live to discover beauty. All else is a form of waiting."

"Justice is an unassailable fortress, built on the brow of a mountain which cannot be overthrown by the violence of torrents, nor demolished by the force of armies."

And my three favourites:

3: "Architecture has recorded the great ideas of the human race. Not only every religious symbol, but every human thought has its page in that vast book."

2: "For it soars to a height to match the sky, and as if surging up from amongst the other buildings it stands on high and looks down upon the remainder of the city, adorning it, because it is a part of it, but glorying in its own beauty."

1: "I live and love in God's peculiar light."

The quotes are the one area that I firmly believe that Civ4 beats Civ 5.

Sure, there have been some great mentions in this post, but none of them can compare to:

"The bureaucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy."

or my favorite, which really wouldn't have the same effect if anyone else authored it:

"Compound interest is the most powerful force in the universe." -Albert Einstein

'Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds'

Not very original, but I still think it's fantastic.

I do wish they could have shoehorned in JFK's 'do not pray for easy lives my friends, pray to be stronger men' quote in...

“Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.”
– Albert Einstein
It's the quote for combustion :)

"What is drama but life with the dull bits cut out."
- Alfred Hitchcock (Drama and Poetry)

"I think that if ever a mortal heard the word of God it would be in a garden at the cool of the day." - F. Frankfort Moore. Quote for building the Hanging Gardens.

and homeless, near a thousand homes i stood, and near a thousand tables pined and wanted food

-refrigeration i think?

"And homeless near a thousand homes I stood,
And near a thousand tables pined and wanted food.
" —William Wordsworth - Guilt and Sorrow or Incidents upon Salisbury Plain

To anyone who's ever truly been hungry or homeless this quote is poignant and sublime and a reminder there are many suffering right now.

Also

"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other." —Abraham Lincoln quote from victory ranking.

I miss Lincoln and the multiple leaders for each civilization.

The many great writer quotes in the game are all excellent as well.

...but is our children learning? That's the question.
And on-topic, if a game of mine goes that long I'll usually just turn the sound off so I don't have to listen to that quote over and over again.

AMEN to that!!!!!!
