I am receiving a Feature Transfer Error every time I try to install.
This error occurs immediatly as I click OK to continue the install on disc 2 (Datacab3).

The actual error reads
Code:
Feature Transfer Error

Feature: DefaultFeature
Component:
File:
Error: Catastrophic Error

Is this a data error (bad disc)?
A bad drive? (The drive does not burn CD's well anymore)
or something I may be doing wrong?

I have tried safe mode install.
Several times install logged in as an administrator.

The drive is an AOPEN DVD / CD-RW
System is XP home with latest updates as of April 14th, 2006
System powered by AMD 1800+

Antivirus is Avast! anti virus. (disabled and still failed.)

Should I take the disc back (across town) or is there something else I can try?

Thanks
Don

I thank you.

I'm disapointed that I can't play the game though.

Just a question. Is this an on going problem or has it just started to show up.
I did not have much luck finding my exact error recounted in the forum searchs I did.

It is a bad run of discs. I'm surprised they're still selling those, and I'm surprised there wasn't a recall, or some kind of program or procedure to deal with this problem by now.

I had the same issue, and my second set of discs worked just fine. There have been some people who have had to exchange multiple times, one person even had to exchange 6 times before he got a disc set that worked!

I'm really disappointed that they haven't somehow fixed the problem or at least offered customers some sort of gift for their troubles. It was a big hassle for me, I had to wait in line at the return desk for almost half an hour. Really, truly unacceptable behavior.

If there was a way for me to get my money back, I would have done so, I was so aggravated by this. If it was an isolated problem it would be different, but it is apparently very very widespread. That would have been unfortunate, because now that I have the game I am in love with it.

So, the point of this ramble.... it's a hassle, but it's worth it.

P.S. - my advice is, if you have a laptop, take it to the store with you, and install the replacement copy on your laptop at the store. That way you know you have a good set of discs and you don't have to make yet ANOTHER trip to the store.

Don't have a laptop to test it on so I am at the mercy of the merchantile gods.
I wish there was a way to test it in store.

Have to track all the way across town to Best Buy for the exchange; because they ran the game for $20 off this week. That will be my third trip across town in a week. Once to buy a game, decided I didn't want it after seeing that Civ4 was on sale so took it back unopened, and now for a hopeful good exchange.

Life can be so cruel.

Just hope I get a good set this time. I can't wait to play.
