Female players?

Fortunately my girlfriend likes to play CivII, and she even beats me from time to time. However none of her girlfriends seem to be interested in this wonderfull strategy game. That made us wonder, if there are only a few female players.

I've always wondered why it is that girls don't seem to get into a lot of startegy games too. It could be a lingering result of the way girls are traditionally brought up I guess.

Back in high school I used to play a lot of D&D, and no girls ever seemed interested in that either. I find that even stranger, because girls, more than boys I think, are traditionally brought up with role-playing--with dolls, and so on.

Maybe some of the ladies here can shed some light?

This seems like a good time to come out of "lurkdom". My husband purchased Civ2 MGE about 6 months ago, and has been a "fanatic" about it ever since! We have learned a lot about how to play the game since I found this site several months ago. I commiserate with Vrylakas' wife, I too cringe every time my hubby approaches the computer. I have also gotten "sort of" hooked on Civ2, but not as bad as he is!

At least I haven't stayed up until 4:00 am to play (yet).

He has recently advanced to King level and has done very well. I, sadly, am still at Warlord **cringes as food is thrown from the gallery** Please don't hold that against me!! I HATE having the city go into disorder with only 2 or 3 citizens like it does in higher levels!

Anyway, count me in as another female civver! Although I don't think I've noticed any other females who post, unless the user names are deceiving.

Also, I'm playing a long term game with 7 people and one of the players is this lady, belinda from tennessee. She's really cool.

And duke, I'm not sure kitten's a girl.....

My girlfriend loves civilisation sim city. She is worse then I am and trust me I am obsessed I work as an office administrator and I am on a cpu all day but I still cant wait to get home and play the cpu. But my girlfriend always beats me to it! Its not fair.

Ummm, ahhhhh, ok. I guess I assumed at one point.

I just check the e-mail address used by kitten and it shows a Colin Hutchinson as being the name. Sorry Kitten if I am incorrect. I'm not sure what made me assume that....

I got a friend of mine and his girlfriend into Civ. It's interesting the differences in play styles:
He loves nuclear war and she tries to make trade alliances and gets upset if attacked. Of course, I'm generalising, but my wife plays occasionally and does the same thing.

My wife also plays SP regularly, but says she is not ready for MP yet...she will sit and watch me play MP, and she is getting better every day...won't be long before we have our 2nd computer set up so we can play MP together and wreak a little havoc....

We have two PC's in our home. My girlfriend loves to play strategic games on the PC. She have played civ2 for about three weeks now. She is now on Warlord level. Her first game on chieftain level was finished with about 130% score. Not bad at all...

She also have played civ1, caesar 3 and Pharaoh and Queen of the Nile. She did finish caesar 3 three times at the most difficult level. I cannot beat her on this game nor on Pharaoh. So I am a bit worried about my status in playing civ2. She plays very aggresively, while I like to build up my empire. I hope in MP I wont start on the same continent with her.

You are indeed lucky if your wife / girlfriend likes playing Civ, my wife thinks that I am completely mad and sonetimes gets pretty irate at them amount of time I spend playing. I tend to leave it until she has gone to bed, then play for a few hours undisturbed. so what if I keep falling asleep at work!

I am the EXACT same way. My wife just shakes her head and looks at me in a pitiful way.

My only problem is that a "few hours" after my wife has gone to bed can sometimes turn into "way too many hours" in a hurry.

This seems to be the best approach: play when your wife / girlfriend is asleep. You can download a bit of porn at the same time and kill two birds with one stone.
