Female Wood Elf Spear Unit (Jan 4, 2004)

Here are two variations of a female Wood Elf spear unit. Both use the animations of my Amazon spear units.

The first is more modestly clothed, as appropriate for temperate climates:

I am still in the process of rendering the Dark and High Elf variants. As soon as I get them out of the way I will get on with entirely new units/animations.

These look very good. I must admit that even the clothing of the "modest" one doesn't look *very* suitable for cold climates... I'm not complaining though!

I did say temperate rather than arctic climate...

Actually, having researched the issue (well, actually more like having pondered it during countless frame renders while sipping beer) has led me to the inescapable conclusion that the Amazons developed significant magic using capabilities. As they expanded out from their jungle (warm) beginnings, they had to deal with colder climates and armor clad enemies either by wearing more clothes and armor or by using magic as a substitute for both!

Since there are no legends of Amazons wrapped head to toe in furs to keep warm, it follows that they went the magic route.

By relying on magic to afford both protection against the elements and as a substitute for heavy armor, it allowed the various Amazon tribes to keep their dress to a functional minimum. This gives them the advantage of better freedom of movement making them even more competitive (and fun to play).

It simultaneously gives me the rationale to continue to develop a line of Amazon units...
