Few new propositions

I'm interested in development of this mod and I have some propositions:
For animals:
1) I propose to change one aspect connected with birds hunting. Currently all units can attack and kill them (the same in defense). It would be reasonable, if these options will be available ONLY for shooting units and hunters (it will be connected with accuracy too).
2) To increase realism, I advise to restrict attacking by harmless animals to few percent.
3) Why all animals can stay e.g. in the desert without receiving damages? I propose to restrict promotions which available that only to proper animals and prohibit animals traveling by inappropriate environment for them.

And for all units:
1) Is it possible to add new trait called "health" to all units? Presently strength shows vitality of the unit. I propose that strength will only show how high damage can entity inflict. Health (shown on the unit bar) should ilustrate liveliness of the units. (e.g. Archer without promotions has 80% health and 6-8 strength. He can inflict min 0,8*6=4,6 and max 0,8*8=6,4 damage).
This trait can be useful for example in the case of the aforementioned harmless animals (e.g. 0 strength and full health). That will eliminate the need for using promotions with gives -99% to strength.
Units like workers, settlers and slaves should have the health bar too.

I hope this few advises will help making C2C better. I expect, that these changes can't be easy to introduction to mod and will make game harder in some aspects, but I think that realism is the way in which should this mod follow.

For animals
3) Only subdued animals get those promotions. It is a hang over from when you had to escort those units back to your cities. Without them there was times when there was no way to get them home. They can travel on any terrain because it is assumed there are some humans with them forcing them to go there.

Wild animals already have restrictions on terrains that they can go. Unfortunately some restrictions aren't available, eg costs only for penguins, or hey make the unit unable to move at all.

2) It is an either or situation at the moment either they can attack and so will or they can't attack. There is a promotion on the unit which is for how harmless it is. Totally harmless creatures attack with a -95% strength.

1) interesting idea. I assume you mean birds that can fly.

1) Of course, the birds being able to fly.
2) I was thinking about reducing the chance of being attacked by harmless animals to few percent.

2) can't be done by me. Probably requires changes to the decision of barbarian units to attack. Most already avoid suicide attacks but birds don't even thought they are no different to any other barbarian unit.

More detailed Animal AI is something that's been on the agenda for a loooooong time. Agreed but it's just going to take a while to get around to it.

Health is already a factor. Units have 100 base hp. The strength shown is the max strength * hp /100. If we gave the animals 0 str, there would be other consequences in the equation that we have no current workarounds for - like them being unable to ever choose to attack - which until Animal AI is more thoroughly developed and some more planned combat dynamics...

I like the idea of flight units being immune to anything but distance attacks (if they are wanting to avoid a fight anyhow...) I'll have to give some thought to what sort of dynamic that could become - and it would be helpful to have the first strike/distance fighting discussion sorted out before working that out as I think it would rely on what decisions are made there.

About strength and health:
This is why I LOVED Civ2...
I'd love Civ4 (and/or C2C) even more if that ATK/DEF/HP/DMG system was recreated.
But I guess it'd be too troublesome, right..? :(

Well... with armor/puncture/precision and dodge I think you'll get some effects along those lines but deeper yet.
