Okay, I may be asking the choir, but I finally just got into FFH2. Should I be playing the base game or FF?

I'd say pick up FFH2 first, at least for a game or two. You can swap to FF when you're ready to get extra-complicated.

Some people may not agree with me, but that's the way I did it and it worked fine for me.

FF is just FFH, with more stuff!

Base FFH is somewhat simpler in some ways, so sticking with that to begin with might be best, then move onto FF when you've gotten the hang of things, perhaps.

Or you could just dive in with FF. I know the equipment promos are confusing to a lot of new people, but you can generally not worry too much about them, unless you're getting great engineers.

And this forum is always here if you have questions !

I played very little of FFH2 before switching full time to FF. I have a co-worker that has, to date, never played FFH2 at all.

Depends on what you like. For me playing FFH2 now I miss ranged combat tremendously.

FfH for a bit, until you're used to the teams and mechanics. Fall Further builds on those mechanics, so it's best if you know them ahead of time.

If you like to wade through mounds of new stuff and just play with things as you find them, go with FF right away. But if you like to know what you are doing and have a strategy in mind early on, start with FfH, figure out what the $@(# is different from BtS, then when you are comfortable with things and think you know what to do at any given moment (should only take about 5 years), switch to FF.

Thx for the tips.

All I know is I'm playing my second game of FFH2, and dopey me set the custom game settings for variable skill level. Then farking hippus move 5?!? I'm just making cities and good defense, when I glance over and notice I'm playing on Diety level. Nuts. So I build more axes. Fine. Did I mention the move 5 horsemen? Nuts. And yeah, they can move. 5.

Yep. 2 moves from being a horse, a move from their unique Horselord trait, Mobility 1+2.

If you're really unlucky the leader is Tsanuke, who has free Commando on those horses, giving them 10!!! moves on your roads.

Or 18 with engineering. Add in battle mounts from the master rancher for 21 moves. Plus not-move-costing pillage from raiders trait, and double money from pillage from raiders trait...

(raiders trait does not give commando anymore, and horses get 3 moves)

He's playing FFH2, not Fall Further, so the battle mounts aren't a problem. And I *think* raiders still gives Commando there. It also gives Commando again in Fall Flat so that's the mindset I'm coming in.

? ce est fall flat?

My soon to be released Modmodmod. I keep bringing it up because it's the only experience I have lately. >_>

If you're going to play FF, wait for the J patch - things will be much less frustrating that way.

Go look in the patch thread, Honor.

I've already converted Fall Flat to patch J...

Anyway thanks again all. I'll keep on with a few games of FFH2. It's not like I have any lack of cool new ("new" to me anyway) things to make it interesting. ;)

One thing I've noticed, though, are differences in the AI behavior than I'm used to. For example, the AI doesn't seem to know how to do a good amphibious invasion. My first game somebody, don't remember who, was on another continent with 2 other civs. He conquered them and then ended up in a race with me for tech lead. At one point I contemplated invading him and went to get a look at his cities. In just one city (the closest one to my continent) he had something like 50 ships and 100 units. He DOW'ed me a few turns later but never did anything with all that stuff. He could have ripped me a new one, I have no doubt.

I hope to be able to address this in the next patch.

I remember I was properly invaded by Amelanchier (elves!?! WTH seaelks) and Falamar (pirates, quite thematically) on Deity in base FFH2 a few games before; I think it's either some rare bug, a problem of a specific civilization behavior (which civ was that?) or just "bad" situtaion for AI to think through.

Had to poke around and find the unofficial FFH2 manual (didn't want to load the game).

Anyway the leader who didn't do the overseas invasion was Auric Ulvin.
