FfH2 0.32 Bug Thread

Inside my cultural border (my territory) there were spots of "fog of war", barbs were spawning inside my borders on these spots. Also my units would disappear (graphic would vanish, unit still there) when they enter these plots.
I had this happen in a 0.31 game. I was the Sheaim, and I had a lot of spectres running around - I think it had to do with the summons sticking around for 3 turns. What civ were you playing?
Actually, it wasn't my territory either, I was razing every city I came across...

BTW, I was also using the Creation mapscript, but I also have only seen it once.

I had a similar problem with a 0.31 game. In my case i played with the Svartalfar against the Sheaim. Also, in my case the "smoke" was above one of my cities (the other was above a lion den within my borders)! I couldn't select the city or units in it. I had to go with another unit on the spot so i can select my units.
In the first place i thought this is some cool game mechanic I don't know but now if you mentioned this as bug, ...

If you're asking giddion, his screenshot shows him as the Svartalfar.

EDIT!: Nicopol, I just realized something, what if there is a connection with the Svartalfar? you just said you were playing as them at that time and giddion's screenie shows the same. or maybe even the shealm?

It's hard to tell whether those are connected or just coincidences without having more info and more cases of this happening.

I had it happend in my current game. A war elephant just dissapeared from view, the plot he was in looking like fog of war. This was inside Balseraph territory. I am the Ljosalfar. The Svartalfar aren't even in the game; I think the Sheaim are. I'll see if I can upload a save tomorrow.

should i search for the save game? (it's an old 0.31 game - don't know if it's FF as well)

I'm not sure, I don't have 0.31 as I removed that when I updated to 0.32, but others may still have it. Kael might find it useful.

bit obscure. I can consistantly CTD by creating a Pirate Cove as Lanun before building a city. I know it is pretty unlikely to be in that position, but it could happen! Especially with unwise modmodding.

you're going to need to provide alot more information honestly, such as a screenshot, savegame, or even a description of what is going on.

Unless you modmodded something and it happened that way.

to answer atolans (not sure about name) i did not do that but the answer was i didn't have copper till i captured a city with it, but i had iron next to my capitol

If this was to me, the answer is, if I get a worker and use it to create a cove before I have a city, (playing as Lanun), I get a CTD. This can happen at certain difficulty levels if you get a worker from a goody hut.

yea it was to you.

Anyways, I see what you mean. You're right anyways, that would be really unlikely considering the various things that have to happen first. I guess it's crashing because the code is doing a check for proximity and there is something essential that it can't find. Then it ends up in an infinite loop and the failsafe crashes it.

I'm not even sure IF there is a failsafe for something like that in the game, but I think you get what I mean.

Yes it is a creation map script, but in the 100's of games I have played with this map script I have never scene this until now. Very odd...

But maybe you have a point and it is a combination of the map script and 0.32

It´s not the combination, I have seen this bug in earlier versions and without the creation mapscript. I rather think it has something to do with watchtowers.

One problem I've had is that if Hell Terrain is on, late in the game my poor system crashes. But just turning it off makes the game lose a lot of flavor. Could it be possible to add a way to just turn off the burning sands? I'm sure that's what is overloading the graphics, especially since the AI doesn't go around fixing all the deserts caused by the rising Armageddon counter so the map will usually have a LOT of burning sands.

I would think it would be an easy fix (but I'm not a programmer) to have a choice to either turn of the flame animation for the burning sands instead of nixing all of the Hell Terrain.

I must say there is nothing worse than getting late in the game when things are really rocking...and then not being able to finish.

Do you have the latest version? This crash issue was fixed back in 0.31.

Try turning off or lowering some graphics settings, it's possible that it's just your computer is not able to handle the load in the late game.

Also, does this happen on smaller map sizes? huge and large maps have been known to cause problems in the late game with the load.

Well as soon as I load patch "D" I'll be current. I am running a 3yo laptop with XP, but I try to turn as many 'automatic' things off as I can to increase processor speed. However, I bought (for the time) a decent graphics card.

However, I have posted before that I do get some rather odd graphic related CTDs along with the error code.

I also only play standard worlds for just that reason. I'm hoping to buy a new computer soon, but I want to wait till I can get a new copy of XP (Death before Vista!)

I tell you, if all these Civ mods were MAC/LINUX compatible, I'd tell Bill Gates, "I've got OpenOffice now so you can go to Hyperborem's next 'slumber' party"

UPDATE: In rereading this, I must say I haven't turned on the Hell terrain for awhile and I have been playing the Fall Further mod of late and have yet to have Hell Terrain spawn in the two games I forgot to turn it off.

I know there are posts after this but to confirm, yes to the above...
I was svart and shiem were one of the other civs

EDIT: If savegame required I can probably track one down.

 the only reason for M$ is gaming and only because some game companies don't make Linux versions...

Ran into other issues:

My Valin attacked Orthus, who was occupying a barbarian city that originally belonged to Sheim. I seen 4 dots over the city so, I moused over to see how many additional troops there were and it was just Orthus, a worker, a barbarian spearman and a "magical item". I figured it was Orthus's ax so Valin attacks, kills Orthus. Next round, kills spearman and takes city. Alas, no ax, so I razed the city...still no ax. This is happening every time since patch D and only happens when Othus is over a city. If he's mobile, I get the ax. Also, I played a game without patch D and I don't have this issue.

I also noticed that the Minister appears in the weirdest places. I actually had a game where is was located on 3 different continents at the same time, and this was at turn 287. I usually know this is happeing ahead of time because civs that I found while exploring the seas will not trade maps. When I do find a civ to trade with (usually costs me multiple techs), I get a picture of the entire world and nobody has researched Optics. (??). I also had a game where I explored my entire continent, killed my neighbors (as always) and he appears later as a barbarian archer in a barbarian city.

I did submit a saved game on a previous thread, if you want to see what a really weird game looks like. Lastly, I want to reiterate that this is only happening since either patch D ( I don't have any other patches saved) or since the patch that let you choose Random Good, nuetral and evil civs. I say this because patch A worked fine and I didn't add another patch until D came out.

Hi,

I saw recently an issue (0.32a-d): sometimes a resource spot turns to tundra (the resource is still there).

Is a constellation event occuring right before it happens? I know that a few of the constellations cause some terrain changes, though I don't remember which ones.
