So, Gwen, not willing to give 3 positive traits a chance? I'm just going to say ahead, Scorched Earth is not and will never be (unless it's changed) a negative trait (or a positive one).
it takes away an option, there fore its a negative trait, since nothing beneficial comes from it, only negative effects. it doesnt have to cripple you completely to be negative.

2 or 4 with a negative, if everyone wants to pick 4 with scorched earth being their negative they may do that, but they'll soon find it annoying to never be able to capture good cities.

Gwen, you should add a direct link to the Stories thread in the first post (or the 6th).
good idea, ill do that.

about the cgiirc, we usually only do that in big games when theres a lot of rganizing to do and lots of people losing connection or crashing

Why shouldn't Scorched Earth be a negative trait? If you want someone else's holy city, you don't get it. If you want the Dragons' hoard, you don't get it. If you want any wonder at all that someone else built, you don't get it. If an enemy puts up a city at a spot you want, you have to build a settler yourself. You don't get to use infrastructure in captured cities. What makes Scorched Earth neutral?

If it's considered negative, Agnostic should give 2 additional traits, it's only fair.

Are you trying to say that getting both Agnostic and Scorched Earth should get you two additional traits?

Having two traits is a good default. Having three traits is powerful, but a negative trait added to that balances it fairly well. Having four traits, though, is overpowering, even if you have two negative traits to balance it out. At four positive traits the degree of synergy is so great, and the bad effects of negative traits easy enough to avoid, that the Civ with four positive traits becomes substantially more powerful than the other Civs.

Not at all what I'm trying to say, I'm trying to say that everyone should start with 3 traits (as suggested by Verm, because we all took Scorched Earth) and that Agnostic should give a free trait, while Scorched Earth should only give flavour and take nothing.

most people like religion, or imagine they can get it first, so agnostic seems bad, but not everyone can get religion early on, so agnostic can be completely neutral if you dont get a religion. does that make it a non-negative trait? no, because it limits what you can do. scorched earth limits what you can do, it is a negative trait. just because several people can accept never being able to take over a city easier than they can never getting a religion, by no means makes scorched earth neutral and agnostic negative. they're both negative. and we're keeping it to 4 traits max so that people don't end up with half the traits. 3 traits is a bad idea since they theres no reason to pick a negative trait unless we allow 5, which is too much (about 1/3 of all traits).

2 or 4 with a negative, it works, its similar to standard civ traits, and we'd already agreed to it.

Today's main game continues tomorrow:

Saturday 2AM GMT (if they had daylights savings time )
Friday 7PM PST | Friday 9PM EST | Friday 11PM Brasilia
Saturday 3AM Sweden Time (CEST)
Saturday 4AM Jerusalem Time
Saturday 11AM Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST)

I might be up to 30 min late depending. LordVerm might be late too?

Having 4 positive traits is to much I think.
I like it like Sureshot said: 2 traits or 4 if one of them is negative.

Deathling how were you going to add the custom leaders?
I just took a look at the xml files and if I'm not mistaken you would need to edit 3 files (CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml, CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml and CIV4GameText_FFH2) to add them as new leaders but only 1 file (CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml) if you change some of the standard leaders to our custom leaders without changing the names. This would of course not work if we have more custom leader than standard leader for one civ.
