Here is a little web page I've made : FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Room

It's a table summing up History of each nations performance in the World Cup. :)

That table takes into account the victories, the finalists, the semi-finalists as 3rd and 4th, the quarter-finalists and the qualified teams in general. I hope you'll enjoy !

sweet... if we win we get above France and England!

If we decide to drop results achieved at home, we already are ;) !

Home advantage is something that should not be minimalised.

I see "Nederlandsch Indië" qualified in 1938. That is something I wasn't aware of!

Great Site Marla Singer. Excellent. I am a statistics fiend I loved it.

By the way Turkey qualified three times. The first one was 1950 I think. Turkey could not compete in the finals because the government did raise enough funds for travel. Many Turks do not know about this, it is complete trivia. Hope this info is useful to you.

Another thing, it is good to see Turkey in 16th place. We`re above some of the great footballing nations.

There is certain nation that seems to be outperforming all others... :mischief:

:p :D

wow, nice site marla. England still hanging on as the 7th most successful team ever (just behind france damnit :p ).

Indeed, the Dutch East Indies have been the first Asian team to participate to a World Cup. :)

However, they didn't really qualify. The thing is that in 1938 only two Asian teams participated to the qualifications : Japan and the Dutch East Indies. However, Japan has withdrawn because it was too busy in invading China. And as such, the only Asian slot has been attributed to the Dutch East Indies by default !

So yes, the Dutch East Indies qualified. However, they did so without playing a game. Once in France, where was held the World Cup, they've lost 6-0 against Hungary at the first round and was eliminated.

Well yeah. :)

Some people don't really now how but it appears England is considered as having won the 1966 WC... :mischief:

Anyway, England has a very good team currently and I would personally consider England as my favourite for the World Cup 2006. So, if my expectations will appear as accurate, then you'll be 6th, before France (but still behind that stupid Uruguay team :shakehead).

Hehe, I did. I have an Indonesian friend who loves football as much as I do hehe.. I always tell him that the only time his country qualified for a World Cup, was when it was still Dutch wahaha...

Ha, glad to hear you say that, but i dont think we can win it. We have good perfoamces every once in a while (5-1 in germany anybody?) but then we have really poor performances (4-1 to denamrk recently, drawing and losing to teams in qualifying stages that we shopuld on paper dominate).
We could maybe do well in the euro cup, but world? not us missy.

Hey you've got the World Cup already once ! You can have it a second time. ;)

After all, among the 7 World Cup winners, 5 of them have won it the first time at home (Uruguay, Italy, France, England, Argentina). Italy, Argentina and Uruguay all won it abroad afterwards.

Ok that's rather crap to think about History this way, but the thing is that the World Cup is an unreachable trophy for most of the countries in the world. Before 1998, I never thought France could win the World Cup. I thought it was a priviledge attributed to Brazil, Italy, Germany and Argentina. When I was at the Stade de France on the July 12th and I've seen that Cup in the hands of French players, I could not believe it. It was simply something impossible !

However, things have changed afterwards. In 2002, I did believe in it. I wasn't seeing the World Cup anymore as something France couldn't win. Well, we've pathetically lost (not scoring even one goal) and that has hurt me even more, but still. England, in my opinion, is not a team which cannot win the World Cup as you've assumed.

Now about the result against Denmark and qualifiers in general. I believe they mean nothing. During the World Cup 2002 qualifiers, we were all wondering whether Brazil and Germany could make it this time. They've qualified very shortly. And few weeks afterwards, they were both playing the World Cup final !!!!

Why ? What made Brazil and Germany so solid in the World Cup 2002 when, especially in the case of Germany, other teams were better than those on paper. They've done so because they had 4 or 3 stars on their jersey. I'm absolutely convinced about this.

Now check your teams in premiership : It's not at random that Chelsea and Liverpool are performing well in Champion's league, both teams don't have purely physical or individual skills like in most British clubs, they also have a very good quality of game technically speaking. And it's not simply because of foreign recruits, many English players are getting very, very good technically speaking.

All this to say that my bet remains on England. ;)

Nice site, Marla :goodjob:

Btw, your link at Wikipedia seems to have been removed without anyone saying why :(

Yeah, I found it in the page history.. I hate it when people edit what you write in wikipedia without saying why!
