Ha, glad to hear you say that, but i dont think we can win it. We have good perfoamces every once in a while (5-1 in germany anybody?) but then we have really poor performances (4-1 to denamrk recently, drawing and losing to teams in qualifying stages that we shopuld on paper dominate).
We could maybe do well in the euro cup, but world? not us missy.
Hey you've got the World Cup already once ! You can have it a second time.
After all, among the 7 World Cup winners, 5 of them have won it the first time at home (Uruguay, Italy, France, England, Argentina). Italy, Argentina and Uruguay all won it abroad afterwards.
Ok that's rather crap to think about History this way, but the thing is that the World Cup is an unreachable trophy for most of the countries in the world. Before 1998, I never thought France could win the World Cup. I thought it was a priviledge attributed to Brazil, Italy, Germany and Argentina. When I was at the Stade de France on the July 12th and I've seen that Cup in the hands of French players, I could not believe it. It was simply something impossible !
However, things have changed afterwards. In 2002, I did believe in it. I wasn't seeing the World Cup anymore as something France couldn't win. Well, we've pathetically lost (not scoring even one goal) and that has hurt me even more, but still. England, in my opinion, is not a team which cannot win the World Cup as you've assumed.
Now about the result against Denmark and qualifiers in general. I believe they mean nothing. During the World Cup 2002 qualifiers, we were all wondering whether Brazil and Germany could make it this time. They've qualified very shortly. And few weeks afterwards, they were both playing the World Cup final !!!!
Why ? What made Brazil and Germany so solid in the World Cup 2002 when, especially in the case of Germany, other teams were better than those on paper. They've done so because they had 4 or 3 stars on their jersey. I'm absolutely convinced about this.
Now check your teams in premiership : It's not at random that Chelsea and Liverpool are performing well in Champion's league, both teams don't have purely physical or individual skills like in most British clubs, they also have a very good quality of game technically speaking. And it's not simply because of foreign recruits, many English players are getting very, very good technically speaking.
All this to say that my bet remains on England.
