Trade Clarifications:

To uplift their economy for the coming grueling task of repelling the Fifth Battalion warmongers, trade has been signed with the Southwest Republic. Our oil, iron, coal, and other raw material reserves are quite extensive, and for the duration of the war will be supplied at friendly prices. This also goes for Ontario, who we will be supplying via the Atlantic. While our opium fields are not that extensive, we will also be selling the drugs derived thereof to these nations with their permission so as to alleviate the suffering of those wounded in battle.

Trade is accepted with the Egyptians. Economic analysts believe we can only benefit from this arrangement. The reason being that Egypt's huge amount of oil reserves in the territories it controls will drive down the price of gasoline immensely as supply swells by a huge margin. This will in turn make transportation of goods cheaper and thus increase the standard of living for all Confederate citizens as well as Egyptian. True freedom, is the freedom to choose, and thus increasing the amount of choices available to a consumer is the necessary objective.

Hong Kong is our biggest trade partner, and their rice and wheat flows into our economy and feeds a vast, hungry population. We meanwhile can provide them with such goods as cotton for textiles and oil and coal to fuel their industrial quality of life.

Italy and Japan are notable for a culinary exchange, with Mexican and American restaurants opening in those countries at the behest of the state, and likewise, Japanese and Italian restaurants opening in the Confederacy. The result has been a massive exchange of cuisines and cultures; the restaurants opened overseas encourage the learning of Spanish and English, while those opened in CRASH immerse citizens in Japanese and Italian. This stimulation of the brain fosters cultural understanding and a greater ability to grasp languages besides one's own.

Perhaps a notable and prevalent feature of CRASH trade policy, is the Coca-Cola Company. With Georgia claimed for the Confederacy, the state has done a good job to begin to re-invigorate the company, and Coca-Cola is once more a symbol of culture, albeit Confederate and not American this time around.

Another important part of all trade agreements is manufactured goods. Between the revolutions and the fact the North was very pro-union, many businesses closed shop in the north and shifted to the much cheaper, non-union South. As such, by the late 1950s, the South has become much more industrialised than in previous decades. These factories now fueled by abundant raw materials from CRASH territories, the South has become far more prosperous, having guaranteed markets throughout CRASH and also in CRASH's trading partners.

==CRASH-Kentucky Dispute, 1958==

Erizo Vasquez, Secretary of CRASH for most of 1956 and all of 1957, had left office in the opening days of 1958. With war imminent with the Fifth Battalion, it was obvious that a more aggressive leader would take the reins of the Secretariat. That leader would be Marcos de Sombra of Tegucigalpa, a third cousin once removed of King Maximilan I of Jamaica.

While he had learned to stomach blood quite well - his brother being the Governor of Tegucigalpa Province, he had been a local elite of the militia, and as such often had to put down riots - he was not a violent person despite his past. He had learned that reason and diplomacy often produced better long-term results, even if they weren't as readily apparent. In as delicate a military and diplomatic situation as 1958's world had, any Secretary had to not just be strong in will, but wise in decision.

It was only natural when President Albert "Happy" Chandler of Kentucky raised issues about CRASH expansion into the South that negotiations had to be opened. With war looming with the Fifth, possible tensions over West Africa with Greece, and paranoia that the French Third Empire and URJ might end their battle at any moment and plot expansion at CRASH's expense, it was clear another foe gained would be unwise.

The brief delivered by intel showed Chandler to be a Democrat who had supported integration after the US Supreme Court - now housed in the Fifth Battalion's capital - had declared Plessy v. Ferguson void and rendered segregation unconstitutional. Thus, while Kentucky remained fully independent, it nonetheless seemed to acknowledge the legitimacy of the SCOTUS' decisions in some way; well, to the extent they didn't actually attempt to enforce them in Kentucky.

That in mind, it was obvious that Kentucky's ties to the Fifth could not be allowed to grow too warm. By appeal to reason, the Secretary would try to diffuse this crisis before it made the North American powder keg explode.

Meeting in an ornate, authority-eminating office, each flanked by security detail and their personal secretaries, the two heads of state shook hands before taking seats at opposite ends of the table.

"Now, Mr. Secretary," Chandler began, "We have just emerged from a civil war, and are quite eager to secure the blessings of liberty and opportunity for our people. We also need to guarantee our security, and so your encircling of Kentucky to the south, west and east is cause for concern..."

De Sombra figured this was what Chandler would state, "Mr. President, I can assure you we bear no feelings of ill will, and are merely securing what is good for ourselves as well. Our Allies in Ontario are more interested in the former Canada than the American heartland, and as such, you have plenty of land to expand northward. Our government has already deliberated the Mason-Dixie line will be the furthest northern point of expansion, even. Between that and the Declaration of Armed Neutrality ensuring our peaceful intentions towards you - and every other reasonable nation-state - we see no issue here."

Chandler cleared his throat; it was time to get more serious, "Mr. Secretary, the people of Kentucky have made it quite clear that you are not to expand northward any further. Do you really want to risk a war with our nation - which is quite productive despite its small size I might add - when you have a massive amount of land and resources already?" He extended his palm towards de Sombra, requesting a response.

De Sombra groaned. Time to appeal to his pride. "Our nation was founded by an American family, Mr. President. It would be a waste of blood and treasure to erupt into a dispute; we are after all, just the natural extension of America's Manifest Destiny - expansion into all the territories south of the Rio Grande." He knew the remark he was making was controversial, but appeal to a common Southern culture and American blood had helped diffuse the Southern crisis. Now it was time to see if Kentucky would be sated as well.

"Exactly. SOUTH of the Rio Grande, Mr. Secretary. America for Americans. We have no quarrel with you keeping what you have, but request you do not push any further into the United States. It is for the betterment of both parties."

De Sombra contemplated his options, but he needed more time to continue; it was obvious Chandler would not yield, so he would have to for the sake of peace.

"Mr. President, I request a ten-minute recess to discuss our response, so as to ensure the most agreeable outcome for us both."

Chandler nodded, shortly before both parties shuffled out of the room.

With the recess passed, both factions took their place as they had before, to resume the talks.

"I await your response, Mr. Secretary." Chandler sat back in his chair patiently. His people had made it clear that war was something they would stomach to secure the future for their grandchildren and their grandchildren's grandchildren.

"Very well then. CRASH has deliberated that we will not expand any further north from our South Carolina border. You will have a clear path to the Atlantic with no questions asked from us."

Chandler smiled. But he figured there was more, so his ears remained focused on de Sombra's words.

"We however, must insist on continuing to annex the following territories." De Sombra handed a piece of paper to an aide, who carried it over to Chandler to look over. It was a clearly detailed map that showed CRASH's expansion plans in the Americas, if a bit hastily drawn up. Several territories west of Kentucky were still marked for expansion, but those to the east had been called off. "These must be integrated into CRASH so as to secure the supply lines for the coming war with the Fifth."

Chandler looked it over, and reasoned that with Ontario occupied with the Fifth, pretty much all of the eastern United States would be open to expansion, and soon, ports would be seized that would facilitate commerce with the outside world.

"Very well, then, Mr. Secretary, we have reached an accord."

The two would shake hands and depart, each having secured a victory for themselves.

==CRASH Bill of Rights==

The CRASH Constitution took heavy inspiration from its American counterpart, given the de Sombra's American origins. Besides the very barebones, loose structure that governed at the national level, there were several amendments added to protect a few basic liberties. Most notably, the right to vote is nowhere among them.

The bill often codified SCOTUS decisions, making the dangers of interpretation much less apparent; this was the intent, at least.

Amendment One: Freedom of Expression

The rights of the people to speak their minds, worship where and what they wish, gather peacefully, petition the government, and overall express themselves shall not be infringed for any reason besides where the rights of others are infringed against their will. The press, necessary to guarantee an informed electorate, shall not be subject to censorship in any form barring national security interests.

Amendment Two: Right to Bear Arms

The right to bear arms for self-defense, and to enable the ready supplying of the local militias, shall not be infringed, barring cases that would threaten the public well-being.

Amendment Three: Private Property

No citizen shall have to house another citizen, public or private, civilian or military, unless they consent to such of their own free will. Citizens shall be free to govern their own property as they see fit so long as it does not infringe on other's personal rights. Those who enter property without the owner's permission void all their rights until they leave.

Fourth Amendment: Legal Rights

All people born in the Confederacy, to at least one Confederate parent overseas, or who pass naturalisation exams shall be considered a citizen of the Confederacy unless renounced. No citizen shall be required to incriminate themselves. A person's life or property may not be taken from them without a fair trial by an impartial jury, with the defense of a lawyer. Warrants for searches and seizures must specifically detail what is to be searched for and when, and be issued on the basis of probable cause. All trials are to be held solely in the relevant district to which the accused would have committed their crime. Citizens must be reminded of all their legal rights at the time of arrest under suspicion.

Fifth Amendment: Provincial Rights

All powers not specifically given to the government by statute or this Constitution, reside exclusively with the provinces. This Constitution will not be construed to deny rights to the provinces and citizenry that they are not explicitly mentioned as having. All rights enshrined in this Constitution shall not be abridged on by the provinces.

Sixth Amendment: Involuntary Labor

All involuntary labor is illegal, except in situations where it is as punishment for a crime.

Seventh Amendment: Taxation

The government of the Confederacy may collect a percentage of each province's revenue each year. The exact amount to be collected shall be decided by statute each year, or be the prior year's rate if no decision is reached. Taxes collected from one province may not be spent in any other; they must be used for national purposes.

The Confederacy may also levy tariffs on foreign goods.

==CRASH Alliance With Luxemburg==

To nullify the chance of hostilities in the East, to preserve the balance of power, and assured that this alliance will be purely defensive and not conflict with the DAN, CRASH has inked an alliance with Luxemburg.

Corollary to this agreement is a pledge to respect eachother's territorial expansion, and an abolition of tariffs on both sides, constituting free trade.

I would kindly ask you to renounce your claims in Polynesia Polynesia is guaranteed to Australia and Philips Island, so unless you want a very nasty diplomatic confrontation with us, them and Egypt (for claiming in Africa) then I would suggest that you vacate Polynesia immediately.

Athens: From Duchy to Empire

Greece, before the revolution was a small nation state. After the revolution, this weak state was divided and thrown into a civil war. No one thought that one of those state, Athens, would not only unite Greece, but would become a colonial power and colonize Libya.

Christos Trikoupis, managed in a few years to make Athens from a small duchy to an empire, a Greek Orthodox Empire. In his eyes, the Megali Idea was reborn. But its meaning changed. While ,until the minor Asia destruction and the Greek genocide, the Magali Idea was about re-creating the Ancient Greek Byzantine empire, now the Megali Idea is the idea of making a Greece an industrious superpower and creating a Greek Africa.

The Duchy has made Great moves towards the democratization and federalization and now it is a Crowned Federal Republic.

Also there are some very good news: The son of Trikoupis was crowned prince of the Greek Empire.
