Final Fantasy 7 Mod

Fixed. See "Edit #4" if you need more details. Now workers should be built by AI if you download "Update #4".

And one question, how fast/slow is the game near the end? I'm asking becasue I have a pretty fast computer, and never thought of asking other people. Is there a bit lag between turns? If so, then I could just make settlers one more population or twice as expensive with shields or something so the AI doesn't build so many (or at least so fast).

I found number of units to be a worse problem than number of cities. At the absolute worst I had to wait 20 to 30 seconds between turns, which wasn't all that bad. I found that the more units I killed, the faster the interturns became. Part of the problem was the lack of roads, resulting in the AI churning out lots of units that took forever to reach my cities. With the worker problem fixed, things may go faster, i.e. units getting killed more often thus there would be fewer units on the map at any time. As AVALANCHE, I also turned off "show friend moves" to speed things up since it wasn't that important (never having to worry about Cetra or Wutai sneak-attacking me or anything).

Making Settlers more expensive is a bad idea, in my opinion.

You never responded whether or not you wanted me to post my screenshots. ;)

Oh, sorry about the screenshot thing, I forgot. PM me the images and I'll post them in the three posts I have reserved for them.

And as for the waiting time, I think I agree with what you said. However, Shinra is militaristic and industrious, so it's probably going to be always producing units.

And BTW, have you ever seen Cetra use Meteor or Wutai use a ninja?

Well, no. Partly because they couldn't hook up the resources needed to build them, partly because the game didn't advance technologically enough for Cetra to build Meteor, and partly because the AI is too stupid to attack over water, so Wutai would never have sent its Ninjas anywhere.

My game ended in the era of Cavalry. Let me tell you, once I hooked up the Quadra Magic materia and started producing Quadra Magic Cavalry, things became rather crazy. I even got some leaders to form Quadra Magic Cavalry armies. Those suckers had 13 movement, with blitz! Shinra didn't stand a chance at that point. Next time I may intentionally take things slower since AVALANCHE's and Shinra's unique units don't come until the industrial era.

Will be sending a PM soon.

thanks for the worker tweak, I hope this will encourage AI resource hookup

Once I'm finished with my FF8 map, I'm considering importing it into the FF7 mod to create an alternate version. That way I can position Cetra and Wutai so they can actually fight on the front lines against Shinra. It's just a thought.

I've never Played FFVIII But I'm All for a new mod

PS: unrelated Question, When Can you change what it says under your name?

Oh, maybe. I'd probably wait until Hikaro releases the full FF Mod before I did anything like that, so I'd have access to all the FF8 units and LHs and stuff. I think most of the Esthar units don't even exist yet. (That Ragnarok sure is awesome, though!)

In the meantime, I just wanted to play something different from the FF7 map. I may just make it for my personal use and not post it here if it would confuse people.

By the way, the FF8 map is finished now. Go check it out.

jkl: I think you have to have 30 posts and be active for 2 weeks. Or maybe that's the requirement for custom avatars. I don't really remember.

Hooray,

Here's a list of FF VIII units (or those that are at least close enough for government work):

Galbadia (Sorceress Edea LH done by your's truly):

Galbadian Soldier: Neomega's Techensai for the regular, and my Galbadian Elite for Elite.

Galbadian Battle Biker (the ones that attacked Balamb Garden at the end of Disk 2): Muffins' Space Marine biker

Galbadian BGH251F2 "IronClad" Hover Tank: My BGH251F2 IronClad Hover Tank ;)

Galbadian Paratrooper: Muffin's future era paratrooper.

Garden (Squall Leonhart LH by me, which may be re-done in the near future):

SeeD: CamJH's Asha'man

White SeeD Ship: Orthanc did that one

Forest Owl (if including Timber with Garden): Under construction by me

Mobile Garden: Aaglo's Flying Fortress

Esthar (Laguna Loire LH also done by me):

Ragnarok (Orthanc)

Gesper: Aaglo's Manbot

Esthar Soldier: on my To-do list (or if I can get the ever present task-master to get one of the other unit creators to do it, that would be cool as well).

Also, I'm planning on making a cruise missile that looks like the Galbadian cruise missiles for a general purpose cruise missle for the FF mod.

Cool. There's more done than I thought. Maybe I'll try to make an FF8 mod sometime after all.

Yeah, I'd include Timber with SeeD. Otherwise Galbadia would pretty much control its own continent, and that would be pretty boring since the AI is terrible at fighting across water. I'd want to have it so that there's sort of a balance of power on each continent at the start. Esthar presents a problem, though. Maybe I'd split it in two, half controlled by Laguna, half controlled by Sorceress Adel.

Ha. Here I am talking like I've already decided to make the mod when I really haven't. I can get caught up by hypotheticals sometimes.

Out of curiosity - which summon monsters have been completed? GFs would definitely need to be incorporated into such a scenario.

Well, Kinboat's Black Pegasus with a lance-armed rider looks close enough to Odin for Government work..... There's also Kinboat's Minotaur to represent the Brothers Guardian Force, I did a Ramuh unit, Kinboat's Black dragon would make a passable Bahamut, and that's all I can think of right now...

Resources and King units will be coming along eventually... I'm currently rendering out the last animation for my Forest Owl (a.k.a. Rinoa Heartily) unit for SeeD, after which I'm doing something else, possibly Rufus, then I'm not sure, I'll see... I have evening college classes starting soon, so my free time will get further reduced.....

Downloading now.. whole family is FF fans. The thing that will be odd of course is... (pretty sure) that in hotseat the map won't be playable. Which means I should use archiepealgo(sp?) as some tribes er.. nations er.. factions won't use boats right?

In hotseat you can choose a scenario or a map but not both.. after that you have to rely on map size, temperate, etc. but can't chose a map and scenario.. but you answered my question pretty much.. thanks
