Final Fantasy Mod Progress Updates, Part II

I am deeply surprised, this is a titanic project! Especially when most of the animations are done by yourself. When you are finished I guess that your mod will be matched only by Warhammer... barely! I wish I could help, but my skills are limited in static graphics, and anyway I'm currently trying to create the Midgard mod. Not to mention that I lack the time those days.

INCREDIBLE WORK! ! !

Thanks, Yorgos, I'm just hoping that I can get this done in slightly less time than said Warhammer Fantasy mod....

Anyways, I've finished up the advisor screens (except for the Ind and Mod Science, since I haven't got the Tech trees for those eras finished yet).

Here's a preview of the domestic advisor screen and the Demographics screen:

Oh, BTW, I've got all the Civs from FF III added as of now, and will be investigating the info from FF CC for finishing up that civilization. I've also started on the Windhurstian Cardian UU, and will be doing Marche Radiuju of Kiltia soon. Once all that's done, I'll only have 8 civilizations I need to replace with FF based civs. Of course, the only games I'll have left are FF I, II and Mystic Quest. That would mean that most likely I might have to get stuff from FF TSW & FF U, or (probably a better idea) go to Xenogears, Star Ocean, or Chrono Trigger.

Anyways, here are previews of the space race screen and the wonder screen:

Wow, Hikaro Takayama, you're doing an OBSCENE amount of work on this; great work! :goodjob: My fingers still ache from all the hours I played FF7-9, and can't wait to get this one! I never played the pre-PS ones, and lost interest (and money :p ) around FF10, but just reading this thread makes me want to! Thanks a lot, and I'd be happy to beta-test this.

I notice that the attack and defense of all the same-era units (at least the attackers and defenders) match exactly. Would you consider changing some of them based on yor knowledge of the games? I'm sure they weren't ALL exactly equal strengths...

(BTW, since the early FF games were mentioned... have you ever seen 8-bit theatre? :D )

I'm a HUGE fan of FFVII, my favorite, of the three I played, anyway. The Shinra SOLDIER looks fantastic! :king:

Yes, I'm basing the civs for FFI entirely off of 8-bit Theater... I even have Brian's permission to use some of his ideas for this mod (like for instance, one of the Light Warrior's UU's is Fighter with Sword-Chucks, YO!!)

As for the standard units, they have the stats they do to ensure game balance (and I've done a lot of "testing" to make sure that they are balanced). The various civ's UU's replace one or more of the standard units, and of course they have different stats to reflect their abilities (i.e. the AVALANCHE Freedom Fighter replaces the Dragoon, and has the same stats but can stealth attack enemies to reflect how the AVALANCHE freedom fighters in the game used steatlh/guerilla tactics against Shinra). Of course, there are a few unit resource requirements that I'm thinking of changing a bit. For example, I always try to make sure that defensive units have the least resource requirements, since it wouldn't be fair to be without any up-to-date defensive units just because, say, your one source of Iron disappeared early in the Feudal era or for that matter the only source of iron on the continent is 3 countries over (I've had both happen). That way, even if you don't have Iron or one of the harder to find resources that are required for heavy offensive units, you can still have a chance of defending yourself. I also forgot to mention a few of the building generated units. One is the Mage. Mages are generated every 15 turns by a mage tower improvement. Mages have high offense and low defense. Their offensive capabilities allow them to concievably take down the best units the modern era has, but without them being too powerful (a gladiator or even a ranger could take them out, providing they got the first strike). The second is the Turk. Turks are generated by the Intelligence Agency Small Wonder, as well as (when I get to adding it) the Shinra Building small wonder (basically, the Shinra building acts as a second FP for the Corporate Republic government, similar to the Secret Police HQ for Communism, but it generates a Turk every 10 turns). Again, Turks stats are 20.10.1 (HN, All terrain as roads & stealth attack), so they make a good all-around unit, but they're most useful for sniping off units of players who insist on travelling through your territory without a RoP without starting a war (I once had an AI player that I'd just finished fighting a long, drawn-out war with send several workers right through my core territory, so I just sent one of my Turks out and snagged me some free labor  ). I'm also going to be adding unique summoning techs for each game that allows the building of a SW that produces one of the summoned creatures every 10 turns. For example, the unique tech for the FFVII civs (Shinra and AVALANCHE) will be Summon Materia, which allows creation of the Huge Materia Small wonder that will generate a Bahamut unit every 10 turns.

I still dont like the city that is based on my byz set (i mean that i do not like my set itself, such old work :( ) but everything else looks really nice & the amount of work is simply impressive...

please tell me when you are done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Any new developments? Sorry, I'm the impatient type, but I know you've got a LOT of work ahead of you... need some help playtesting or something?

Ermmm... Progress has been slow over the past two weeks due to my getting a job and a million other things keep popping up demanding my time. I'm currently working on the Shinra SOLDIER, but progress on that is slow, too because it takes almost an hour to render 1 direction of a 10-frame animation with the figure I'm using.

WHere you could help is a) find the name of the Litlie Princess in FF CC, b) get me a good picture of Grand Duke Kam'Lanaut of Jueno, c) tell me where I could get more info on Romanda from FF T, or d) edit the diplomacy.txt file (I'll supply you with a list of what FF civ replaces which C3C civ). The game is not ready to playtest yet. I still need to work on the industrial and modern tech trees, as well as incorporate the unique summoning techs for the various games and on top of that, I still need to find 9 civs to fill the remaining slots (I'm seriously thinking of adding Square-Enix as a bit of an Easter egg civ with Noumura as leader and the different games made by Square-enix as the cities (i.e. FF, Chronotrigger, Xenogears, etc)

Well I can do the civolopedia stuff, no problem. I only work 30 hours a week, and I'm happy to contribute! I'll send you an email with my address, so you can send me the files.

Just dropped in to say that you really are a one-man army, Hikaro. You're like, the only person working on this mod, and you've done more work on yours than anyone else. I'll try to help with it some, but I'm kinda busy with the Star Wars mod. But do you need more techs? I can do those quickly, :D.

I can help on only one.

A) I really couldn't find much on her.

B) Uploaded, but its kind of hard to see the full body. It was in the middle of the battle so, thats why. I'll try to see if I can get another picture.

C) All I could find was: Updates Pending so not much luck on this either.

D) Don't know how to edit it.

Silver Knight: I'll be sending you the diplomacy.txt file and a list of which C3C civs are replaced with which FF civs later tonight (my computer is currently tied up with rendering the run animation for the Shinra SOLDIER).

Odin: Here are some of the Techs that I will be needing soon: Summoning (general tech that, along with a game specific, untradeable era-none tech) will allow the following techs: Espers (FF VI), Summon Materia (FFVII), Guardian Forces (FF VIII), Eidolons (FFIX), Aeons (FF X), and Avatars (FF XI) which will each allow the construction of the small wonders that produce each games unique summon (i.e. Bahamut Zero for FF VII, Ramuh for FF IX, Yojimbo for X, ). Thanks for the offer to help with the tech icons, BTW.

Caffine: That's a good pic. I have a grainy .gif file that gives a sorta closeup of his face, so between that pic and yours, I could come up with something workable. I have the hair, and could easily cobble together a suit of armor similar to what he's wearing (and when I get his LH done, all of the civs from FF XI will FINALLY be finished, which is kind of funny since they were among the first to be added to the mod). Thanks a billion, man!! (Although if you could get a close up JPG of his face, it would be much appreciated).

Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, I have less time to work on this mod since I'm working from 8:00 to 5:00 as a security/communications systems technician now, and it looks like my next couple of weekends will be pretty much occupied with visiting one of my best friends from when I was in the Navy before he moves to Japan to live near his wife's family and visit my brother in Pittsburgh....

Still, I plan on posting some previews of my progress on the Shinra SOLDIER once I'm done rendering the run animation.

OK, maybe not THAT dramatic, but you know what I mean.

Hopefully, these will help a bit. I've been admiring your project for a while now, and it'd be a shame if I missed an opportunity to contribute.

Also, this may be a silly remark to make, but I noticed that, for your "Space Program" screen...the Shinra Corporate logo looks awfully blurry. Maybe it's just a temporary thing, but in case you don't have a higher-res one.

I believe these are the pictures you requested: (Edit: I know to big but you asked for the face. )

Thanks for the pics, guys. Now I can get all the LH's caught up.

Here's a quick preview of the Shinra SOLDIER thus far. I hope to have him finished by the end of next week.
