Thanks, Clam, I've downloaded the updated version. BTW, I'm searching the web for FF MIDI files. I've currently got several FF VII one that I'm going to use, plus some FF X (Currently looking for FF T ones, so that QwertySoft Can use them In his MOD). I'll be converting them to MP3 format, and editing the Music.txt file and posting those when done :)

For FF7-9 & Tactics midis:
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/sony/ps1/index-af.html
Navigate around the site to get other games.

I wasn't planning on changing the music though, since I can't even get music to work period in normal games.

If you're looking for some good remixes of Final Fantasy music, check out http://www.ocremix.org . There's a lot of good music there(and not just for FF, but for all kinds of games). On the forums in General Discussion there's a thread about "PRC 13" which is a remixing competition that's sort of unofficial and disorganised. But the reason I'm pointing it out is that this week they're remixing a song from FFTactics, Battle on the Bridge.

Map Update:
Ok, I started over. I had to. The new map is something like 237x209 or something like that, which corresponds to 2x2 pixel blocks on the map I've got. Now, the jpeg's resolution is actually 948x418 but I shrunk the X dimension by a factor of two, so that I could do the rows the way I wanted to(see the zigzag lines of grassland/plains in the above attached file). I'm only 6 rows into this though, and with 203 left to do this will take a while.

For units, I tried to start a model of a chocobo in Milkshape today but the unregistered version won't let me save, therefore I lost it when I had to reboot. And it was looking pretty good too.

Tomorrow I'm going to get thinking on the tech tree.

Well, I've rummaged through all the sounds/music directories for both the main game and the various Conquests Scenarios, and all the music is in MP3 format. Don't worry, though, I have a music mixing program called Screenblast Acid (tm) that allows you to Import and mix any format of music and video file and save to just about any other format of music and/or video file. One thing I've read about adding cutsom music (and I've verified this from the Conquests Scenario files) is that you can't have more than 5 music files in a custom set (as defined in the Music.txt file in the \text directory). This mixing program allows me to sort of get around that, by allowing me to attach one song to the end of another, resulting in one long song sequence :D I'll probably have something to post on that tomorrow, or whenever I get done with the whole process.

I have Nero, which came with a great sound editor that let me not only convert to mp3 but also add songs together, but it stopped letting me save as mp3 randomly. Also, sorry to hear about the map and chocobo model. Hope you can get those two things done.

Little bump here. No interest in units for this? I've got the map about 20% done on my very huge map restart. The map is large enough to have a starting location at each city on the FFT world map, although I think i'm going to stick with my castles idea.

Does anyone have any ideas for UUs? I'm thinking I can use some of the characters from the game, i.e. Ramza for Gariland, one of his brothers for the castle to the west(forget the name) etc.

I got back to playing it again last night, to refresh my memory of these things.

Qwerty,

I was just thinking, If you could list some of the more famous pieces of archietecture, you know, the kind of stuff that could be used for great wonders, along with a short description and, if possible some kind of picture, and I'll se about modeling them in Bryce, and rendering all the appropriate game graphics, along with the Civilopedia.txt descriptions.

How's that Idea sound? (I'm at a mental block for replacing some of the ancient era wonders, and have virtually exhausted my resources/knowledge of FF 7, 10 and 11)

Well, I wasn't planning on doing much in the way of improvements/wonders with the mod. I guess I could use a set of Palaces though, modeled after a few of the Castles in FFT, but the problem with that is you never really see a whole castle(just pieces). Since each 'region' of Civ gets its own set of palace graphics, that might work.

Just had another thought, using the Church from the first battle as the cathedral. Shouldn't be too hard to get some screenies from ePSXe either. I'll get back in a few days on this, taking screenshots from the game.

Well, I think I'll be able to get some screenshots of the Orbonne Monastery later this week, when I put my CD-ROM drive back in the computer.

I also got my PS2 hooked up again(and I think it handles things differently than the PS1, i never got a Mandalia Plains battle with FOUR chocobos before, I got slaughtered even with 3 monks and 2 wizards) and I'm taking notes this time, as well as heavily referring to the "Brave Story" menu choice, which lets you re-view any scene in the game as well as gives extra information on the characters(which probably won't be too helpful, but it's there. it would help if we wanted to modify the 'pedia, but i don't think i want to go that far).

So, to the tech tree now! I think I'm going to start with going through the unit list again, and arranging them in the order I want them to appear, then assigning techs to each and then putting in improvements.

Please do. I'm currently about 1/3 of thw way through all the modifications for the ANCIENT era in my mod (I still need some ideas for replacements for the Temple of Artemis, the Pyramids, the Great Wall, and the Hanging Gardens).

Week 3 Update:
Map: Starting over AGAIN. My little sister decided to play "click the mouse" while I was off getting a drink and she put a couple hundred plains tiles down where they shouldn't've been, and I hadn't saved, and it was too many to just "Undo". I got set back to about row 40 of 209, so I should be able to finish this by week's end.
I'll take those screenshots of Orbonne Monestary tonight, after I get offline, and I'll have them tomorrow.

One thing I noticed about FFT, it's graphics are completely opposite to that of the other FF's on the Playstation 1. In FF7-9, the backgrounds/environments were pre-rendered and the characters were animated on the fly. In FFT, the characters are actually pre-rendered sprites, so this might make making units difficult, since all you have are the 4 directions(up-left, up-right, down-left, down-right) and no direct up, down, left, or right graphics. So hopefully we can get some good unit-makers on board.

I completely forgot about mythril as a resource. I'm going to go back and integrate that in, as well as keeping the "Pure Iron".

For government, I'm just going to make the default Monarchy and not add any other ones(hopefully I can make it start at Monarchy). I"m also going to modify unit support and other government traits as well.

Be on the lookout for that screenshot tomorrow, and the map within the next 7-10 days. (GOTM #31 has me tied up throughout tomorrow, but once I submit i'll be able to devote 90% of my time to this).

[EDIT] If any of you are on AIM, I'm online from 8:20-11:15 PM Eastern time all this week. My SN is XerolOplan. [/EDIT]

You can choose the starting government in the general settings of the editor. Monarchy should be able to be set as a starting government.

Ok, good. So, officially, there are now no government changes possible. Is there a way to disable the revolution button? (Wait, N/M, you can't switch if you don't know of other governments.)

Anyway, map is delayed further due to school projects. I posted the Orbonne Monestary shots in the other thread, but here's one of them again:
orbonne_outside3.jpg

(I hope that's the right one.) This is going to be the Sistine Chapel equivalant, as a wonder.

With regard to units, if anyone wants to step up, I'll get screenshots from the game of all possible angles of each class. What needs to be done the most, and probably before much else can be done, is the chocobo. I'll get a shot of those up ASAP, but I've got to get to that point in the game first(again).

Qwerty, thanks for the screenshot, give me a day or two, and I'll have it done for you (shouldn't take too long to model that in Bryce, but I'm currently busy with making FFVII modern city graphics. I've got the small and medium size cities done, but haven't completed the large size. It will look like Midgar when finished.)

I saw the image in the other thread, and it looks great, but the problem is you did the back of it! But, I guess the back did provide the best view, so that's not really a problem. Looks great!

Map update: I've got 3 exams to go, by thursday at 10 am i'll be done so I can finish the map finally! It'll be up in the Maps subforum as soon as its done.

I've got a working copy of truespace again so I'll probably do a couple of the units myself. I'll get screenshots up of all of the job types so any interested people can get started on the others. Chocobos are a priority since they're such a large part of it, and I can get lots of images, including from the FMVs(movies) and from the in-game screens.

The tech tree is probably what I'll concentrate on after I finish the map. The map is something like 284x240 so it's pretty large, I'll probably do a smaller version eventually too.

Oh, eheheh, oops! I've never played FFT before, and I just used the pic you attached there. I didn't know if that was the back or what, I thought it looked pretty cool, and I decied to take some artistic license and make the windows stained glass.

Sw33t. If you do get some chocobos done, send them my way (I have Poser 5, so if it really comes down to it, I could just use the chocobo model, the only problem is that Poser runs like molasses in January on my computer).

Oh, BTW I managed to snag a copy of FFT at a local GameStop, and I'll try doing some "research," I've just added the Church of Yevon from FF X/X-2, and I'll see about maybe adding Ivalice or one of the other FFT civs sometime soon.

Well, I had one pic of each side, but like I said, it looks good that way. I started a new game on the Playstation today(not the emulator, as my CD-ROM drive is down AGAIN) playing as Ramza ONLY. It's a pretty difficult challenge, but I'd only recommend it if you've beaten the game at least 2-3 times.
Here's how I'm doing on that game(warning: contains spoilers): http://forums.ffinsider.net/showthread.php?p=19776#post19776

Anyway, as soon as I find a working optical drive I'll get back to my emulator game and get up to the point of chocobos. I should be able to start meeting them in random battles in 2-3 events, so that shouldn't be too far off, the only hangup is the hardware.

Ok, it's kinda pointless to have a link in my sig to a dead project, so this is the official announcement of a revival. I've got some software to play with so I can probably do units, but the main issue I'm going to work with is the map. I've got a week off starting next tuesday (for thanksgiving) so I can get a lot of work done on this during that time.

Also, for you FFT fans, we're working on a Piano Collections project over on Overclocked Remix (I'm Xerol on those forums, BTW. Hopefully will be here too, for consistency. This name is so antiquated(i've been using it since 1996).).
