Ok, it's kinda pointless to have a link in my sig to a dead project, so this is the official announcement of a revival. I've got some software to play with so I can probably do units, but the main issue I'm going to work with is the map. I've got a week off starting next tuesday (for thanksgiving) so I can get a lot of work done on this during that time.

Also, for you FFT fans, we're working on a Piano Collections project over on Overclocked Remix (I'm Xerol on those forums, BTW. Hopefully will be here too, for consistency. This name is so antiquated(i've been using it since 1996).).

I go to OCremix and Ormgas all the time! I love it!

Good to see you back, Qwerty, it was kind of lonely with me being the only guy doing any FF stuff around here ;). You should be happy to know that one of the next LH projects I'll be doing is Ramuza (for the civilization of Ivalice in my mod). If you want some of the other key figures (say Orlandu, Lanard IV of Ordallia, Delita, etc), just post pics in this thread and I'll eventually get to making them.

anything FF7 style would be fantastic... i would believe that quite possibly the best game ever.

I've been meaning to ask a mod to change the thread title for some time(it was decided a while ago that it was going to be Final Fantasy Tactics only).

Nice to see there's still some interest after all of this time. I've been involved with googles of other projects and i've been searching for some time to get back into these little side-ventures. Like I said, the priority is the map right now. I'd really like to have a BMP->Map creator or something like that, but that'd be a big project(although extremely useful for modders).

Since you have three wizard types, I suggest that they ought to look different from eachother. Here is my suggestion on how they ought to look.

Ice Wizard: Male Wizard

Fire Wizard: Female Oracle

Bolt Wizard: Female Time Mage

Well, for the wizard types, I was going to do it by Hat Color, with a belt on the robes for the specific Civ color.

Querty, you wouldn't happen to have any info about the various factions in FFT, and are you planning on including stuff fro FF: TA? The reason I'm asking is that I'm re-coloring some of Kinboat's lizardmen units for use as Bangaa, and I'll eventually doing a Marche LH. I've decided to use the middle ages verion of R8xft's Hector for Lanard IV of Ordallia (the country Ivalice fought the 50 years war against), and I'll be making a Ramuza LH for Ivalice (Ramuza was picked over Delita during a poll I ran two weeks ago). I'm also using KB's Landsknect for one of the Ivalice UU's in my mod (the Hokuten Knight). I know your mod and mine are quite a bit different, but I don't see why we couldn't collaborate on the areas where we overlap.

Oh, BTW, I'll also be working on a female unit wearing a fairly long dress, apron, and armed with grenades and a funky old timey looking rifle for use as one of the other Ivalice UU's for my mod: The Ivalician Chemist :D If you'd want that, I'll be more than happy to make that once I start back on making units in a week or so. :)

I've been meaning to take my 100% save file and go through the "Brave Story" area on the menu and writing all of that down and putting together some sort of site or at least a text file with all of the info. Bit busy right now, but I should be able to do it by mid-January.

You may want the hat colors to change to each team color. Also, it would be nice to have female magic users. Of course this your mod, not mine. ;)

Unfortunately you can't have multiple graphics for a single unit(like the game would select randomly when built...hmm, good idea for the Civ 4 forum....) but I was going to mix up the genders. I always play with Team Color Disc on, so having the color openly visible on the unit itself isn't too big of a deal, but I'll make sure the belts are significantly visible.

For wonders, have you considered using zodiac stones? they could each be a different wonder and provide a bonus based on what they did in the fft story. If you like that idea, you might also using the Germani manuscripts as a wonder, also, a good place to look for city names would be the adventurer's secret lands, there has to be about twenty locations there; some might make better wonders than cities though. Also, have you considered adding to the map? I realize that we only see the one continent, but it might not hurt to use a littl poetic license and add another continent or two with some of the civs on them, but that's up to you.
Nerd Out

Well, my current plan is to make a very huge map that follows the original to the tile. The whole mod is going to be in a medieval setting, so it's not like the entire world has been explored. If someone else wants to go ahead and make a full-world map, go ahead.

I'm not quite at the point where I'm ready to put in wonders and such. My main focus for now is units and the tech tree, as these are going to be most of the work.

So, I take it you aren't adding anything from other FF games related to FFT (i.e. FFT: A or FF XII). In any case, Are you or are you not going to have a Chemist job class, and if so, I'll be designing a unit based on the female version of said class (like they have a pic of in the player's maunual). To whit, a female type charachter wearing a long dress with a leather apron and armed with an old timey looking rifle and grenades (or bomb arms/poison fangs/other combat type items)

Also, will you be able to use the Ramuza LH I'll be making for anything?

Unfortunately, I can't have a _true_ chemist class because there's no healing units in Civ 3 (Another idea for Civ IV...) But I'll have an early-third age unit that takes on the offensive role of the latter-game chemist. Most likely long range, low power bombard, plus middling A/D values and middling movement.

I'm going to double the movement penalty for all types of terrain, and have unit movement accompany in-game movement, and roads will only provide twice the movement of unroaded flat terrain. I could probably do an early-age chemist that doubles as the worker, with very low(probably 1/1) A/D values. I'll have to get into the editor soon and start looking at these things.

Also, there's a problem with this being for PTW: About two months ago, while playing PTW, the disc shattered inside the drive, destroying the drive and obviously the disc. So I'm stuck with Vanilla until I pay off some debts and have some spare cash to buy conquests. I'm also stuck with a really slow CD-rom drive(4x, mid-90's relic) until I can buy a replacement, as the explosion of the PTW disc rendered the drive useless.

Qwerty, Sorry to hear about your CD/CD-ROM drive. If you're willing to wait about two weeks, I've got a 16X IDE CD-ROM in my old Cyrix 120 MHZ desktop PC back home. I could call my parents and have them mail me the CD-ROM drive, and I could mail it to you for free.

As for the Chemist, in my mod, the Ivalician Chemist replaces the standard modern age defensive unit, but has +1 HP and an offensive bombardment slightly less than the standard Civ III artillery unit. This is to symbolize that Chemists are a mainly support (defensive) job, that can keep the party going longer (+1 HP bonus), and can use combat items to soften the enemies up before they enter melee range (offensive bombard).

Also, since I bought PTW before buying Conquests (which includes PTW stuff already), I can also mail you my old PTW disk, since I don't need it anymore.

Well, I'm getting a DVD burner for christmas(much needed too, as I'm gonna be producing & selling CG Animated Movies out of my bedroom starting in february) and Conquests is down there pretty cheap too, probably'll drop again after christmas. I don't really have the time to be playing too much anyway (GOTM is just about all I can manage anymore).

But, anyway, sliding back into topic here. As far as leaderheads go, I'm not sure if Ramza actually fits as a kingdom leader. All the major kingdoms in the game had some sort of leader anyway, and I was going to use those. For the southern civ(the one that includes Goug, can't remember the name off the top of my head) their UU was going to be a souped-up version of the modern chemist.

I was also going to just make the mod Vanilla-only, it ensures global compatibility, and there isn't all that much difference.

Hey, I'm an FFT fan and I think that you should utilize the ingenious job class system. You could replace a handful of techs with "Jobs" that interconnect and unlock new units (have to update old units to get ones like mime or lancer. For wonders, you could do the orbonne monastery to replace the sistine chapel. Sorry about reviving this thread.

Welcome to the forums :)

This thread is abandoned for the last 6 years, and you shouldnt bump such threads ;)

But there is an FF mod around. Try looking at the finished modpacks section, i think it is there (i may be mistaken though, and work might still be continuing on it).

No, the Final Fantasy mod is NOT in the "Finished Modpacks" section... YET... It's still only a beta release, but work WILL continue on it this summer... Mainly some gameplay tweaks and finish up the Final Fantasy style UI, THEN I'll get rid of the Beta version at Atomic Gamer and re-upload the more or less final version (though there will be patches if I ever get the King unit lines finished up or suitable units for some of the placeholder UUs)...

You can get it from my signature, however. ;)

I hate to jump into a 7 year old thread like this, but I've been really excited for a Final Fantasy Tactics mod... Or maybe just the map even. So, if there is a map that someone could referr me to.

Or, if by some miracle this mod is still in progress, I could offer my services. I know the Final Fantasy Tactics world better than I know anything. A lot of the things Xerol was sceptic on what to do, I had a solution in mind.

So, Xerol, if you are still working on this, I'd love to help. Or to anyone who might want to salvage this project, I'd love to make this happen.
