Final Fantasy XIII-- Worth it?

Heh, just to throw my hat into the ring of "best FF", for me it's between 6 and 10 - the former had the best story, but the latter had far and away the best gameplay (combat and levelling in particular), and a pretty good story (yeah, Tidus is a d*ck, but then so is every male FF hero).

After those, I'd say 9>>>7=8=X-2>>>>>>>>>>>>>12>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>13 (haven't played any before 6 or the online ones)

I like 9 so much because it is in many ways the spiritual sequel to 6 - very similar feel to the games even if they are unrelated plot wise. 7 is good but nowhere near worthy of the hype, while neither 8 nor X-2 are as bad as I've often heard them being described. 12 and 13 are though...

Yea, I actually didn't mind Squall. Nowhere near as cool as Laguna, but who is? Rinoa on the other hand...

FXIII is repetitive and and hugely redundant. The over-arching story is pretty badass and interesting, but the battles just became far to annoying to deal with. Like it was mentioned above it does get better about 20ish hours in, but to many people that's not worth it. If your a big fan of a good story then you might be able to push your way through it, but otherwise I wouldn't even bother.

FFX and FFIX remain the best of the series by far.

Zidane was an amazing character. Auron and Yuna are my two favorites though.

One thing I've never really understood about final fantasy related threads is that you always have a ton of people come in and say "XYZ was great (usually 7 or an earlier game), but then list off why every game after that just sucked. Seriously guys were a decade, if not more, removed from the one game you loved. Why the hell are you still buying them if you don't like any of the others?

From what I have seen (I saw my friend play it alot), it is the worst of the series, right up there with Mystic Quest and X-2. It is also missing many of the elements you would expect from a FF game. The only praise I feel like giving it is for its awesome battle music.

Next up on the docket are FFXIII-2 and FFXIII-Versus (which plays like a Kingdom Hearts ripoff if the trailer is to be believed). I think the next good FF is going to be whenever they remaster FFVI.

I liked X-2, It's the only FF game I ever finished, I played X afterwards and got sick of it.

I recommend playing until you encounter Flanitors. They are the best enemy mook in any game ever.

Other than that it's dull.
