Finally something Americans and Europeans can agree on.

I've got no problem with cutting out inappropriate content from children's television programmes, and with applying a bit of more of a stringent approach to standards in general on television. However, the responsibility of parents remains to be the final say in the matter.

It can depend what type of violence they are talking about.

In general, I can think of a lot of things I'd rather children be doing instead of being transfixed by the television.

Wait why aren't parents making sure the kiddies aren't watching inappropriate TV?
I agree. It's a parents job to monitor what the kids watch, not the governments. I would allow the government the right to enforce legislation for satellite/cable companies to include monitoring tools with their TV packages, but still leave it up to the parents to implement them.

sex is already banned. so if you take away violence what the hell is the point of watching tv? are you going to have a half hour long sitcom that discusses the weather? The simple solution is to just put your kid in a sandbox and let him/her play there instead of getting them addicted to the boobtube anway
No kidding, watching the weather for too long can make one very violent (well, maybe just insane).

I may just form up a petition, showing how favorable such actions would be to my fellow collegiate classmates. And then send it to my state and national legislators. Perhaps to the national legislators of every midwestern state. My classmates have a wide age group, so you would be getting the opinions of the late teens, twenty somethings, and so on and so forth.

I may just do that.
