Finally something Americans and Europeans can agree on.

Yes but why is it the rest of us with out sucky little kids are penalized when its the job of the parents to raise their kids right not the job of the government.

It's really the same issue as with videogame censorship. Parents need to keep their young kids away from the material that will damage them. It's their responsibility to do that.

Finally something Americans and Europeans can agree on.
You mean something in which they are both wrong? (That of full-out censoring and thus crippling those who demand certain programs is the way to protect children, instead of strategies of allowing the parent to censor it effectively) Not the best thing to agree on.

Yeah, as an American, I definetly think this is mos def ********.

Congratulations for getting more cencorship in the land of the free. I'm sure there'll be no crime after television violence ends :mischief:

There might be less violence. Especially children tend to imitate behaviour they see around them. If they're contantly being showed that violance is OK and it solves all your problems (see Walker Texas Ranger - you say a bad word to Chuck Norris and you end up being beaten - strangely, no blood appears, so the children could think it doesn't hurt that much), they are likely to accept this as a standard of behaviour in their society.

Violence is much more dangerous than sex in the TV broadcast, yet, for some reason, it is sex that is almost hysterically being censored.

I agree. Its parents job raise their children, not tv.
Probably most violent is Tom and Jerry, which is made for children. It was my favorite and I am not sadist.

You're naive. TV has a significant influence on kids.

You say it is parents' fault they don't raise their kids themselves. But what should they do, tell me? Ban kids from watching TV?

Oh please, be a realist. Violence should be banned from programmes that are watched by kids.

Naive? Lol. Most violence was and are when/where is not tvs. And its normal ban some programmes by parents. Its only about parents raising, if you felt affected by tv your parents made something wrong...

So you are naive.

How much time a day an average kid spends with the parents? 4-5 hours?

Most of the time, children are at school (=bad influence from their classmates), then they watch TV or play computer games, then they say "good night" to mom and dad and they go to sleep.

The parents would have to be supermans to raise the kids as they'd like.

Violence in the TV simply has a negative impact on the kids. Every psychologist will tell you that. The younger they are, the more dangerous the TV violence is.

Actually, I think that: government regulation + almost anything = teh suck

But when I looked at the thread title, my first assumption was that this would be an anti-Islam thread. ;)

And as i stand there seing my kids watching violence on TV and playing violent videogames, i cant help but wonder.

Where has the system failed?

Where you failed to step into their lives and take these things away.

Actually, I think that: government regulation + almost anything = teh suck

Government Regulation = Teh Suck. ;)

Why bad influence? About which age are you talking?

then they watch TV or play computer games, then they say "good night" to mom and dad and they go to sleep.
Maybe. But then its parents fail. If they dont raise children their children cant be normal. Child to 10 has to have tv and computer limits even if there are not any violence and sex.

The parents would have to be supermans to raise the kids as they'd like.
No superman, parents in correct sense of term.

I think that from majority of psycholigists you should hear that influence is small or isnt proved. Maybe I was watching on bad interviews, but every time when something wrong was made, psychologists were talking about families and on question about tv violence they told that some media violence was only resolution of family problems.

So you are naive.
what does naivitee have to do with this?

How much time a day an average kid spends with the parents? 4-5 hours?
usually the time they watch tv is at the time they're at home, hence with the parents.

Most of the time, children are at school (=bad influence from their classmates), then they watch TV or play computer games, then they say "good night" to mom and dad and they go to sleep.
school isn't necessarily a bad influence. and it's the parents job to make sure that they only watch TV and computer games that they think are good for them. My parents sure did. If you're not doing this as a parent (or at least make sure that somebody else does), then you're not doing your job.

Violence in the TV simply has a negative impact on the kids. Every psychologist will tell you that. The younger they are, the more dangerous the TV violence is.
no argument from me there, which makes it all the more important for the parent to monitor what their kids watch. That's not the governments job (same with sex on tv)

You couldn't be any more wrong. Shows like 24 and The Office, and South Park easily make TV the greatest thing ever.

Don't forget Lost! That show makes TV worthwhile for me. ;)

If violent TV only affected the kid who's watching, then I'd say leave it completely unregulated. But violence doesn't just affect the perpetrators - it affects the rest of us too. That makes it a public health problem. IMHO we need to make it possible (free speech and all that) to see violent TV, but not have it be the generic default situation.
