"Fire" Developer Diary

One comment though, mostly just from a "flavor" basis. How about replacing (perhaps) Lightning with .... need a good term ... let's call it "kinetic" for now, because I don't want to call it "physical". :) But the idea is to represent spells that do not directly blast the foe with magical energy, they blast the environment and the environmental splatter harms the foe.

I am talking about stuff like summoning a cloud of anvils 50' over the heads of a rank of advancing Macemen, or earth elementalists ripping boulders our of the ground and hurtling them at the enemy. Or your old-fashioned mentalist using telekenesis to fling convieneintly placed basketfulls of darts, or you air elementalist calling up dust devils and flying stones, etc.

Hm... I'd be more in a support of a telekinetic type, which might involve slamming your foe with fists of force, grabbing them up into the air with pure force and dropping them, maybe ripping a person apart from the inside out... these don't necessarily cause magical effects to foes, but the means are magical, so a nullstone golem or something would be completely immune to them.

I do like the idea of lightning being an alternative to fire, though, and I know you all might not want to put in any more energy types than you have to. I'm just saying that more of them might add flavor to the mod. Hm... any plans to fill up the remaining spell sphere with spells based on these energy types?

The UI is gold because thats my personal setup, its not a "Fire" thing. There is a thread somewhere in this forum for changing your UI from blue to gold.

Next Fridays developer diary will be all about the number in that little circle.

I lied. I can't talk about that number yet because because to many things that the number effects haven't been explained yet. Instead Im going to talk about Hell this friday and I'll talk about the number next friday.

:sad::sad:

I will be if it's cool - it's supposed to be all fire and brimstone, sulphurous fumes and molten rock, either that or complete desolation :P

How could you be dissappointed if hell turned out to be cool? That means hell froze over and Fire is out!

Just set that number to 23 and when someone asks about it, tell them they're not authorized to know.

I'm very curious how you solved the hell situation!

Well, Im going to be busy all day Friday so you will get to read all about it a day early. I'll be posting the story and a picture tomorrow.

There was a picture first time around too. Did you miss it?

That one in the Fall From heaven thread with that tortoise? that was quite a while back now.

Hes probably talking about the picture in the first post of this thread of the Dwarven Chariot and the Hornguard.

I'de forgotten about that one. i raelly like the art. does the permission to use the art for the arda mod still exist for "Fire?"

Of course. Both of the dwarves in those models were made by seZ. AlazkanAssassin put them in the models and did his magic to switch in the animals and make the animations work.

A:so... for a 5 str physical unit that gets +from enchanted weapons and +20% from combat, that will increase from 140% strength to 144%(str boosts and combat boosts will stack multiplicatively), in the new system?

B: can i use(abuse) this to make GC promoted workers into real combat units with enchant weapon :P? (don't forget to lower combat str from disenchantment the weapons....)

C: on an unrelated note-will you finally put enticing things like fire arrows/poison weapon/barbed arrows/caltrops at the end of drill?

I don't want to pester Kael, but today is already the day before friday (in Spain is already 10:36 am)...
WE WANT THE PICTURE!!!

WE WANT TO KNOW ABOUT HELL!!!

But more important, we want to know WHEN IS FIRE RELEASED!!! :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

And one more thing... someone tell woodelf to stop playing NOTW so he can work more in the mod :D

I play civ IV only because of this mod. If it was for vanilla, I would have played two months. I remember reading somewhere a player trying a different mod for vanilla and being shocked because it felt less filling. Maybe it was in this same thread

Hmm... I'd imagine those kinds of spells would just do physical damage - I mean, what difference does it make if someone launches an anvil at you with magic, as opposed to a anvil-throwing mechanical device or just plain old brute force?

well the difference would be in the force applied, which would be magical and hence not subject to the normal forces of nature (physics); therefore calling it physical wouldn't be completely correct. Normally in fantasy games it's called Force Magic btw.

Hah, looking at all these posts, I imagine that the team may be under SOME pressure... hey, don't worry guys, no pressure at all, but give us FIRE YESTERDAY!!! and make it then times as good as light!!!11one

;)
