First full body transplant to happen...

Jeez. How many times did I correct autocorrect there? "I'd", not "is".

We do need a cure for spinal cord injuries. Very much so. The current system is unacceptable.

@Lille: I forgot how bad that movie is.

We're making good progress on that last I heard. Spinal cord injuries that is.

I don't really understand why this thread is here.
 to the :confused:th power

This is the most interesting/cool/amazing scientific event in my lifetime (far & away, what else could even be close?).

I heard about this last weekend & was amazed.

The ramifications are huge.

Of course this probably won't work & probably won't work for decades, if they can't even fix Christopher Reeves how on Earth can they screw on a new head to a dead body & expect success?

Still, imagine if you could live forever with new bodies!! You could even be a chick if you wanted to (albeit probably an old lady, unless a nice hawt young girl was killed in a car crash with head trauma).

The guy who told me about this told me "The first thing I'd do is check the pecker on the dude" (the cadaver that would soon become his vessel).

I remember some South African researcher severed a monkey's head from its body and managed to keep it alive and functioning for quite some time. I recall seeing a video of it, and the monkey's head looked decidedly nervous and uncomfortable, but it was definitely alive.

Golly! I didn't expect to find it on youtube, but I have!

Here's the link, if you really must:

It amazingly dates back to the 70s.

Well yeah it's a cool news story. But what is there to discuss?

Thats its cool & some one can bump this when it doesn't work & then again in 10 years if/when it does.

If the result is either success or death, sure, why not? ...and if one cuts off someone's head death has universally been the result, just ask the French. Its a good option because its not suicide, the patient has the hope of a better life.

Quit while you're a head?
