These IPs really are brutal lol. They are all over the map and I haven't figured out how to initiate diplomacy with them yet. I just discovered that one IP is attacking an outer settlement that I captured from Confucius, but the game didn't notify this of me at all. I went to check on it and it now has like 20% health left and 3 IP military units smfh. Shoulda checked on it earlier
It's not intuitive, but you need to click on their settlement tile. Took me some time to figure it out too. I don't understand why banners are not clickable.

Town Specialization. It's pretty great that you can increase your Trade Route range with Trading Hub Towns. Unfortunately, that range goes back down when you convert them to cities, and you lose any trade routes that fell into that longer range.
It is beautiful and it feels like Civ.
I am not as bothered by the UI as many, but I do welcome all the updates we will see.
Was drowning in happiness in my first game and decided to go one over the settlement limit. Lost settlements to revolt during crisis.
So far I played some Hatshepsut Egypt, Ibn Battuta Greece and Isabella Maya. Antiquity only as I did need to get some sleep.
I love GC's narration.
I do wish it were easier to pick out buildings on the map.
Final note for now: if you don't hear from me, you can assume it's cause I'm playing a lot of Civ.

My problem is I just find it kind of boring. I'm not sure why but I don't feel that "one more turn" addiction yet. It's just not grabbing my attention yet. I'm just not really excited for the next turn and to see what happens. Hopefully that changes.
So, I've continued to play around with some different combos, starting over a number of time to see what feels the most comfortable for my first full playthrough (I haven't gotten past Antiquity yet.) Machiavelli+Greece and Amina+Aksum are my favorites so far. Influence is just super useful, and Gold seems better than it has been in the past. I still need to try Tecumseh+Mississippian, but I'm still getting used to the Diplo/Influence system and don't want to go all-in on Suzerainity until I'm more confident with that mechanic. José Rizal and Ibn Battuta are also on deck for me, but I don't know who I'm pairing them with yet.
It's frustrating to me that, as far as I can tell, you can't build or purchase naval units unless you're on a coastal tile, even if your city is on a lake or navigable river. Maybe I'm missing something there, but it's been my biggest frustration in playing around with Aksum. Independent powers are for real and I love that.

As an aside, God of the Sea seems super good in comparison to the other pantheons (not that I've used that many of them, this is first impressions after all).
I just finished a full 3 age run as Isabella and it was pretty fun despite having to fight with the UI the whole time. The lack of information is incredibly annoying, I have no idea how some of the finer details of a few of the game mechanics work because there's just no way of looking it up. Not being able to tell which techs are pre-requisites is stupid, not being able to queue techs is stupid, not being able to tell the effects of social policies before slotting them in is stupid, the commander window closing every time I upgrade a unit is stupid..... and on and on and on. The game itself is running very smoothly though, absolutely no performance issues and my rig is only mid-range. The sound track is amazing, the animations are great, the buildings and landscape look incredible. As soon as they fix the UI it's two thumbs up from me.

Also, when you are at a city state screen and you hit X, it goes back to the map, when what it should actually do is go back to the list of city states in the diplo view, as you are presumably interested in city states at that point in time.
I feel like my grandma with technology but super embarrassing question: How do I enable tooltips on the map? On the streams I see people just hovering over them but I can't figure out how to get it working. Not able to see what the resources are or what they do
Edit: Nevermind was just a first turn thing, after I settled and advanced the turn it worked

I haven't reached modern age yet, but I had a similar feeling from the very start when we are initially offered governments that traditionally become available much later.
Got through my first Antiquity Age. First impression is quite positive. I’m sure some quibbles will emerge eventually. Right now I’m not taking any huge issue with the UI honestly.
The town to city pipeline confuses me a bit, specifically whether or not I should actually convert the towns into cities. Just gotta learn as I go. It seems like libraries (and wonders obviously) couldn’t be built in towns? I kinda shied away from all of the gameplay videos because I knew first hand experience would be best.
I was playing as Rome and unlocked Ming for having 8 luxuries. Shawnee was also available. Is it just there because of the DLC or is there a gameplay unlock I missed?
