I am pleased to show you some more preliminary work on Civ 6. The theme is fantasy orientated but I am sure it will be adjusted over time.

Now please be aware that this version is somewhat streamlined but I am confident that it will be trimmed down even more by the time of release.

It's even got a demo you can play. Enjoy!

HAHAHA! :D

But it actaully makes me sad in a way, because this is exactly how new RPG games work. When I was younger I used to play Final Fantasy, which was strange because I don't like fantasy games/movies/books in general. But there was something about being able to travel with an airship across the planet and discover new towns and places, often well hidden, and that had no real connection with the main storyline.

But then they decided that the scale was wrong and was to complex, so they "streamlined" it to a "walk from point A to point B" game. I think Sullla mentioned this as well.

I agree with you. There's a general dumbing down of everything. Just look at the latest iteration of the Final Fantasy franchise. :(

Anyway, Civ VI needs MOAR SPACEBAR!

I haven't even tried it. There's simply nothing left of what I used to enjoy. I was actually a bit ashamed for enjoying these FF games because I thought they were too dumbed down...

But coming to think of it... In FF7 you could breed chocobos, in FF8 (which I didn't like very much though) you could play Triple Triad which was very challenging when all the rules were activated, in FF9 you could dig for treasures with chocobos and even get flying chocobos...

And of course, there were always tons of hidden side-quests... The key was, if you worked hard, you'd always get rewarded.

FF12 is reminds me a bit of Civ V or maybe even more Civ:Col, because it's very repetive and because it punishing the player for doing well. I always strive to open all the treasure chests... just to learn that in order to get the best weapons, a few chests can't be opened... And there's no way to figure this out without a guide. Oh, of course, there's another way... Another chest has a 1/256 odds of containing that weapon. Great fun. So basically, a casual player who just followed the storyline would be likely to get this weapon, but side-quest freak as myself gets punished.

This is pretty much like Civ:Col: "Oh, so you got almost every founding father because you played so great... Let's see how you'll handle my army of 800 units!"

Or Civ V for that matter: "Oh, so you saved your people from the evil Mongols and even captured his capital. Let's give you 20 extra  and make it impossible for you to get new SP's!"

I think this is so strange, because after 30-40 years of gaming, I feel that the companies should know what makes a game challenging and fun. Or could it be that most people actually enjoys this kind of "punishment"? I find that very hard to believe.

HaHaHa. The concept of purchasing DLC is the worst thing that ever happened to gaming. The internet has fueled a new kind of greed.

Why? I have a lot of fun with the money I spent on something else. If you need to/must spend money on what you think is crap then I feel sorry but most people make a well-considered choise. Even the ignorant will learn (eventually...).

I agree and think most of the people that defend the dlc dont remember the days when companys were trying just to keep there games selling and would offer free updates all the time, there were always tons of new maps for fps games, either the company or games would make them but you just dont see that anymore.

Except than 99% of games just didn't.

Famous bugs that people can reproduce today.

Fan based updates were pretty much the only real updates for most games and some games did bug fixes.

In the case of some games you even have fan based bug fixes. <.<

The only games that had significant updates were the ones that eventually got expansions.

Way to revive a months old troll thread.
Seriously, as delicious as the haters' tears are, stale threads like this are just a waste of space.

(posting just to get the stupid 'it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks' message to disappear)
