What do you guys think is the first wonder you should get?
And when?

It really depends on your strategy.

But if I'm on a religious path, the Oracle is a killer wonder to get first. A free tech, and it generates a great prophet -- thus allowing you to build a shrine for a major religion, or even found Christianity if you're early.

If I'm an organized civilization, the pyramid lets me access some high powered civics early on.

If I'm a philosophical civilization, I try to take advantage of the parthenon.

Otherwise, it's usually a matter of what I'm close to by the classical and medieval era. On the top half of the tree, I often end up building the great library, since it's such an all round great wonder for everyone. On the bottom half, I actually try to build the colossus, since it generates great merchants, which can make upgrade costs a non-issue.

I've won multiple games without an early game wonder at all. It's a question of what you're building instead of a wonder.

If it's an isolationist strategy you're after, try Stonehenge.

It centres your world map which is v. useful for finding and colonising any uninhabited islands or continents and delivers a nice boost to your culture.

Personally I'm a big fan of the Pyramids. Enables all Government Civics and can't be made obsolete. V powerful. On top of that it gives you great engineers earlier than any other wonder (by quite a bit). Use them to snatch the next load of Wonders out from under your opponents.

I have to vote for Stonehenge too. You can build it almost immediately, it's cheap, and it basically gives you the Creative trait when it matters, which is early in the game. It's especially useful on smaller maps where you need to block out territory and grab resources quickly. Plus, it'll generate a Prophet at just about the time you want to build a Shrine and need the income.

depends on locations of nearest civilisations

I have a strong perferance for Stonehenge. good ol civ III land locking stratergy
The new city upkeep dose make it difficult at the start but controlling most of the land essentially cripples your adverseries.

Damn, I have been trying to learn the game for 2 weeks now =still dont know what im doing :)

Oracle or Stonehenge are good for religion, Parthenon for philo, but generally never really focus your plan on building wonders early on.

Depends on your MAP. If you have plenty of trees, build in the following order: 1) Oracle, 2) Pyramids, 3) Hinging Gardes.

If somebody else build pyramids, it is time to DIE for them.
