Fix-It List

Oh, and for the problem posted earlier, I recently got Complete, and that fixed things, so all I'm doing now is placing Custom LH's, but it keeps telling me the various XML files end in </English> and start in <TEXT> I have checked each one, and saved each file, but it won't change the information. The game will run, but without Civs or LH's, therefore limiting me to mods

So I just installed patch 1.74 on my Vista and whenver it loads it brings up an init error saying "error loading shader libraries". what do I do??

Start - games.

Nevermind, I got it to work somehow. I ended up uninstalling all my custom LH's and then adding them one-by-one instead of all at once and that has worked.

I did have an XML error where when changing the names of some Holy Roman cities, in game it now displays TXT_KEY_CITY_NAME_yaddah instead of just yaddah. Did I do something wrong? Also, I tried to get some custom LH's to have a first diplomacy text, and even after saving the .xml file, the first time I "meet" them, it just asks me if I'm for war or peace. The other leaderhead doesn't say anything. What file do I use there, and what am I supposed to do to get it to show? I used DiploText or something like that.

Edit: Nevermind, I solved the problem

For some reason, on my Windows Vista 64-bit machine, I can play Civ IV BtS, but installing it was not completely straightforward; when I tried installing Civ IV and then BtS, the install kept dying at the beginning.

Here is my workaround:

* Install Civilization IV regular
* If desired, install Warlords (not required)
* Patch Civ IV up to v1.61, then to v1.74 (you cannot patch directly to 1.74, at least not with the Civ IV version 1.09 that came with Civilization: Complete)
* Now run install for BtS

Apparently, on at least my Vista 64-bit machine, the built-in patcher for Civ IV included with BtS causes a crash to desktop, so if you don't manually patch Civ IV original before installing BtS you may run into problems.

Hi all,

I just installed CIV4 complete, and I can't run CIV4. I can only run colonization. The guide didn't mention anything about it. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks, I was wanting to ask that last question, but since mgino asked first, I decided to wait and see.

Hi.
It seems that i have problem with leader animations which are not shown correctly (there are only eyes or beard without the rest of face etc.)This problem i have in bts, in civ iv and warlords it worked just fine.Any help?

Do you have updated graphics drivers?

Everytime I get into a war or I get into renaissance My computer goes real sluggish. basically it drops from one turn in 5 secs (from when I end my turn) to over a minute and more (sometimes I have had my comp crash due to this.)
I am playing with Avian's Quot Capita but it does this even without the mod. I have tried to set High priority to it in task manager but it says access denied (I am the admin) I cant play that game that slow. any ideas what I can do?
I have an amd athlon X2 4200 with 2gb ddr and Pny Geforce 7900gs. Vista premium

I just bought CivIV: Complete Edition, but all that it's letting me play is Colonization. Why?

edit: Problem Solved. Should have read a few posts up. Thanks Ori.

here ya go, thx for what help you can bring
OK. I have a couple of questions and some suggestions you can try. Are you running anything else in the background ehn you play? Your cpu is good enough to play civ, but it probably can't handle the overhead of vista + civ + anything else, dig? At 2 gig of ram and 2.2 ghz vista home prem will be pretty close to choking if you add anything else to the mix when you play. Anything bigger than a standard map is gonna be pretty tough as well. The farther you go the more units the cpu has to look after, and in a war there's even more stuff to do > slowdown. And why haven't you upgraded to SP2 yet?

A couple of things to try would be to shut down anything running in the background. System tray stuff, anti virus and the like. UPGRADE to SP2!!! If you have a USB flash drive, you can give yourself a little performance boost by using the readyboost feature of vista. It's pretty slick for low mem machines. AMD also has a wicked little utility called Fusion. It'll shuut down most of the non essential crap for gaming, and it's configurable. http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_fusion.aspx?p=1 It's pretty easy to use and I think it'll even work on an Nvidia mobo like yours. Give this stuff a try and let us know how it worked out.

I did as you sugested and installed Fusion and SP2 (I had it set to automatically update but for some reason I had to do it manually) I have a 4gig flash drive that supports Ready Boost but i have had that for a while. I also unstand that I can only play Civ4 and only at standard scale, unfortunatly. I will give a tesat run for the next couple of days to see if it all works at least better. Now my question is what kind of machine(computer) should I get to run huge map games?

I dunno if you really need a new computer just for civ. Adding a gig of memory might be all you need to do. Upgrading your video card might help b/c yours is an older model, but you don't really need to. I'd stay with nvidia just because your mobo is an nforce model and the drivers are unified. One of the nvidia 9000 series like the 9600 or 9800 models are pretty versatile and are good for vista and they dont cost too much.

Hmm something to think about.. i dont know if it would even run an extra bit of ram. Its so old and hard to find parts for...(its a 939pin board) I bought it used off of ebay about 3 years ago. Unfortunatly it is also hard to get the money for anything else. I am only part time right now with minimal income. but thanks for your help.

I downloaded Civ IV and it was working fine until I turned it off and tried to return later.
I can no longer open the program without receiving an error notice. "Error loading shader libraries"
And at the same time, I'm unable to uninstall it without receiving;
