I've had a check on the sticky for TnL and your card is shown under 'Basic to Acceptable. Do you have the same problems if you play a tiny or small game? As an aside is your PC noisy when you're playing?

Desperately looking for help!!! Have just bought the Warlords extension and keep getting an error message. I can't seem to find out what to do, it's probably something very simple but I'm at a loss. Could anyone help?

The message I get reads:
Failed to allocate video memory please try reducing your graphic settings
file:/source/civilisation4/SDKs/Gamebryo2_0/CoreLibs?NiDX9Renderer.NiDX9RenderedTextureData.cpp, Line: 170

Is this happening whilst you're playing or when you're loading Warlords? If the former then have you already reduced your graphic settings?

When installing the program it keep stopping and a box appears saying rendunecy error. What can I do to fix this problem?

Cyclic redundancy error? Sounds like your system is having problems reading the CD/DVD. Could be a faulty CD/DVD or your CD/DVD drive. To check the latter then you could try it in another system assuming you know someone that will let you. If the former then you need to get the retailer to replace it.

Thank you for the reply Sam. I think I will take it to my sister's and try it in the next day or two to be certain, but there haven't been any issues with my drives when I've loaded or played other games, DVD's, or CD's so I'm thinking it's the Civilization disk...Like I said, I'll try it on my sister's PC and if that doesn't work I'll just return my disk for a new one.. Thank you again for the fast response. I appreciate the help.

You can also try to clean the disk gently. And some drives have trouble with civ4 install disk(s), what can sometimes be remedied by installing new firmware for the drive.

Warlords is an expansion pack for Civilization IV so you have to have Civilization IV installed first. In other words you need to buy Civilization IV and install it. Then you can install Warlords.

Just make sure your PC meets the hardware requirements, especially the graphics card, before you spend more money.

Could you give more details please such as the error message text you are getting.

when i run it this mesage is what i get when i ask for it: C:\DOCUME~1\MADSJR~1\LOKALE~1\Temp\8406_appcompat.txt

but it one time i just cleaned out the temp folder, and it worked but only once and when i shut the program and reopened it - it did not work. and i have tried to install the program in many different ways with both limited access and full etc.

Did a hunt using google and apparently the appcompat.txt file holds microsoft diagnostic info. Apparently this is related to Windows Error reporting.

As far as installation goes you must install Civ under a user that has administrative rights. You can subsequently run Civ under a user with limited rights if you want to do this. In fact this is what I actually do myself.

Before reinstalling you should ensure that you have deleted all traces of Civ. This includes deleting the folders that Civ creates e.g. C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 assuming you installed it in the standard location.

Thanks for the help - but it is still not working just showing the sign "loading" in different languages, so i really dont know what to do cuz the only thing i do know is that it has worked before.. once or twice.

but either way thanks for your time and help

Allright i will do this, but i have figured out a way for me to play Civ4 - it is quite wierd though, cuz i can play the game if i push out the DVDRom drive containing the game and the dobbleclick the icon for Civ4, and then inserts the DVD... it is kind of strange, but it works i just have to do this maneuver twice. But anyway thanks for the tip i think i will do it anyway just to get rid of the troubble it is causing me. And no, i am using a danish version of Windows cuz thats were i am from :) - and when i use the dxdiag - it crashes..

Thanks lads!

Los Latinos estan conquistando los estados unidos y traficando musica por toneladas - Daddy Yankee.... Eso!!

 I've never seen that before. Doesn't sound as though your system is at all healthy. :(
