Fix-It List

Every time I start or load a scenario/Battle, just after the load bar is full, my computer restarts! Help anyone? This has only started recently, its been running fine before.

I've been getting a Similar Problem except rather then just restarting flat out when I create a World Wonder (Usually Stonehedge, If not that then 'The Oracle') It will just shut my computer down. I'm wondering if I need a new Graphics Card.

Whats your graphics card? Mine is a 256mb Nvidea 7300LE, brand new 6 months ago! Why is this happening?? Help!!!!!!!

Apologies if this is breaking a convention of some kind, but in the interest of a quick resolution, I'm reposting my problem here.
I have all three versions of IV, and find that wonder movies tend not to show up, but instead to go black, stutter a few seconds of audio, and then crash the game. Another member suggested using a device called nVHardPage and setting pixel shaders to 1.4. This worked for several wonders, and now has failed to do so. After experimenting with various shader settings, I am at my wits end.
I have an NVIDIA Geforce 6150, 256 MB on it.
Is there a solution I have overlooked?

I had CIV4 installed (patch1.61)

Wrong CD"
I am not using cracks or pirate versions, and my sistem, is ok for sure.

Ok, I've read all the 35 pages and no one seem to have had my problem.

I've never had any problems with Civ IV until I installed Civ Warlords.
All of a sudden my sound was gone.
I uninstalled both games and installed them again. Making sure that I updated them in between and after.
Now I got an error when trying to start the game saying a dll file is missing.
So I uninstalled both games and installed them again. Making sure that I updated them in between and after. Testing each installation once before updating them. I found out that the latest patch for Warlords was causing the error.
So I uninstalled both games and installed them again. Making sure that I updated them in between and after up until the patch made before the newest one.
I still hadn't any sound.
So I stared to look in to updating my DirectX 9.0c but noticed that it was the newest one. So I downloded it again and installed it just in case there was an error with the old one.
I uninstalled both games and installed them again. Making sure that I updated them in between and after up until the patch made before the newest one. So apparently it was something that was wrong with the DirectX.

I got sound and played the game for a day.
The next time I was going to play the sound was gone again.
I can't keep on going through all these steps each time I want to play.
Does anyone have any idea what to do?

I thought i'd let everyone know...

Anyone who was having the same problem as me which is where it says "Unable to locate CD-ROM", there is a solution. Thought you may have to but something >.>

According to Tech support "Civ IV will not always work on Vista. Some systems it will and sopme systems it won't." However, if someone using vista installs Civilization IV GOLD or Civ IV Beyond the Sword than it WILL WORK.

I installed Beyond the Sword and it worked perfectly first run.

I hope this helps someone out of a little frustration. If your vista isn't finding the system, than either buy Civ IV Gold or get Beyond the Sword.

So I tried installing the game and I get this strange "Feature transfer error" message mid-installation. It says:

Feature: Disk<1>
Component: <Disk1>Disk1 Files(2)
File: D:\setup.isn
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Can anybody help me with this? I have a pretty new computer so I know it meets the minimum requirements.

Having issues installing BTS. When prompted to load Disk 2, the installer becomes unresponsive. Happens whether I select "browse" and select or just hit OK.

Do I have a defective 2nd disk or is there another fix?

I've encountered the same problem as #685. The update to 1.74 Final produces this error when attempting to start the game:

"This application has failed to start because D3DX9_32.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

This latest update of Warlords requires 1.74. Reinstalling and not going with the latest update appears to be the only solution unless I can find this particular DLL. Any suggestions?

I found the other thread dealing with this specific problem (see <a href="http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=5772115">dxdx9_32.dll</a> problems). I followed the directions and everything seems to be OK now. Note, running Windows XP professional.

Hi, I havn´t read all 35 pages, but many and have found no answer. I recently added a 160 GB S-ATA II drive and since then Warlords won´t recognize MODs downloaded from this site. I get a "NapEur is not a valid MOD directory" error, for example - others don´t even get that far. Can anybody help ?

Your computer is having problems reading the CD/DVD. It may be a faulty disk. Try and see if it can be read on somebody else's computer. If it can and it still won't work on your computer then it is an issue with your drive. :(

hi, i also have not read the 35 pages, but did anyone find a solution to the invisable mouse issue???

Hello, I uninstalled my copy of Civ4 and now my system will not let me re-install a new copy. In add/remove programs I have an entry for Civ 4; however it is for only 69MB.

The message I receive when I attempted to install indicates I have a newer (1.74) version installed that the one I am attempting to install. It will not let me get past that point.

Would appreciate any help.

Regards, Mark

I've been playing civ iv without incident for 9 months.

Yesterday, I thought I'd check out some online civ and I downloaded a couple patches that popped up.

After that, I couldn't run civ anymore.

Last night I removed and reinstalled civ, though that 2nd disc was a royal pain.

Today, I opened up a civ game and all of the units were in triplicate, though the workers were only doubled.

I couldn't handle that and tried another remove and reinstall.

But I couldn't remove it, prompting an error message instead.

So I opened the folder and reprompted the install icon, and now - several times actually - the setup wizard doesn't recognize the 2nd disc.

All I want is my civ back.

Help!

Of course I haven't a clue how... just kept trying, thanks anyway...

...now when I try to snag and drag a unit to a destination I have to use the right click when before it was the left click... problematic for sticky fingers on a mousepad...

back to the battle...

I didnt read all 35 pages and i have no answers today, sorry.

Any advice from anyone on this would be nice:
To help install the Civ 4 v1.74 patch I ran the June DirectX package as one poster suggested above (although an August version is out), I cant do the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer because I don't have the internet on my game PC but that Runtime Web Installer was used by others with success which makes me think it is still a DirectX issue (could be wrong). I did the manual June DirectX update properly by going into the folder afterwards and executing the DXSETUP.exe file
Then I restarted the PC, made a restore point and installed Civ 4 and then restarted again, set another restore point, restart, and ran the v1.74 Civ 4 patch. This time it went better than my first attempts but not perfect.
The patch progess bar went 99% of the way across and then Error 1706 popped up again and said it could not do the job, it had an OK button so I clicked it, then it continued for a second and the familiar colored Civ 4 install screen came up and said update was complete and gave me a "finished" button. The program runs, and it thinks it is upadted.

Wondering if I should uninstall or maybe revert to that restore point I made, then run the August version of DirectX and do the whole thing over.
Or maybe just say forget it, it's good enough. Not sure if in the future during game ply I may have issues and by then I'll forget I had this Error 1706 pop up to begin with.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Im on HP Pavilion, Athlon 64 X2 (W) 3800+ 2.0 GHz, Microsoft Windows XP with SP2 , GeForce 6150 LE , Realtek ALC 888 chipset,
system less than a year old with latest drivers and June DirectX installed.
