i have posted this before but i'll try again. i'm disabled and love playing this game, however when civIV loads it disables the windows 'stickey keys' so i can't use any shift functions or ANY key combo's. try playing the game game with ONLY the mouse. you find out very quickly how the game is 'limited'. I posted this at Firaxis tech support but they just said 'we'll look into it'. any ideas that could bypass this?
 
no expansion packs... and i dont even want to play online so i dont need pitboss... i have tried reinstalling and the same thing happens... could i be doing something wrong?
 
try this then:


install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4:

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Vanilla
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Vanilla, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
then patch it to 1.74 - get that patch from here.
 
I have no idea whats wrong. I put the disk in the drive and try to install it but when it gets to the installshield an error pops up. It says Error -5003 : 0x20 occured. And the details read:

Im lost on what to do? But what annoys me more is that about 6 months ago it worked fine.
 
Hello, im having a problem play Civ 4 ever since i uploaded the new patch via in-game uploader. Everytime I try to start the game, i get this error message that says "Error Loading Shader Libraries". I have windows vista, and when I run Civ 4 as an Admin, its tells me to put the right disc, even though i am using Disc 1. I await a respose, thank you for your time.
 
Sigh, i cannot even get past the first turn before the game crashes to my desktop. All that i have done so far is install the latest civ4 patch, 1.74 I tried both the drivers that came with my video card and the latest ones from nvidia, which are only like 2-3 months newer. I enabled logging and will post the logs here.
I am running Windows Xp sp2, I have downloaded directx 9c last night. My hardware is as follows:
P4 D 2.8Ghz
2GB ddr2 Ram
Nvidia 8800gts 512MB

I have done everyhting i can to uninstall my beyond the sword game, when ig o to add or remove programs and try to uninstall it, it will give me this error.

i have gone to my common files folder and deleted the install wizard folder, and its still happening?

Some help please, cant play the game until i sort it out.
 
you'll probably need to manually remove it - best way is to:
remove the key
32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989
from the registry and if you want to get rid of all instances of both BtS and Civ4 also all keys with firaxis or civilization in their name - but only AFTER uninstalling Civ4.
If you want to reinstall BtS just removing the long key will suffice.
Also delete or rename your installshield folder.
 
i am not able to see farms tribes and so on, i can see cities and units but it is impossible for me to see those kind of graphics. i attach some information from dx diag and a screenshot of the tutorial.
 
I've recently been getting an issue when I try to uninstall Civ4, Whenever I attempt to Uninstall (Via the Add or Remove Programs option in the Control Panel), I get a message similar to 'An Error (-5004: 0x80041F42) Has Occured while running the setup.

Make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications, If the error still occurs, please contact your vendor: Firaxis Games. (##IDS_Product_URL##).

Whenever I hit 'Detail' I get this

Hey, I keep getting a "BTS has encountered a problem and needs to close" window while trying to start BTS. I looked around the forums and there is a thread that says that you can fix it with the "no cd-key fix". What is this and where can I get it? Any help would be appreciated.

The error signature is:

any information on a no-cd crack will not be forthcoming on this forum - anything even remotely linked to piracy is against forum rules.
Your problem though is that your game is not properly patched - in order to do so follow the list of things below (yes it is a pain - but usually works).

it is looking for some python files - I don't really have a solution, but maybe the stuff here helps?

hi there, hoping someone is about?!

i'm having a problem with game starting up. starts up fine to start with then get a pop up saying unusable voice capture device and disabling!

after i hit ok button screen starts flickering like mad!

any help on this would be great

the unusable voice capture device is because civ thinks you have a microphone installed - you can disable this by opening the civilizationIV.ini and changing the value of

enablevoice=1
to
enablevoice=0

the flickering should not be related but maybe it helps, if it doesn't post again :)
