Fix-It List

Thank you! :)

I swear I'm not blonde. I was just having one of those moments.

Anybody know what happen to my computer? I installed Warlords today and downloaded the Earth 24 Mod and zipped it. I tried to load it up and it crashes my computer. Well I restart my computer and it's totally :):):):)ed up. I can't load COD 4 cause it seems it can't find my sound card. I have no sound at all on anything. Works isn't loading up because it says I don't have enough memory to. Same goes for Window Media Player. I can't ever search for anything on my pc anymore. I click on Search/For Files and Folders and nothing happens.

It seems like the mod deleted some :):):):) from my computer. I know this isn't true but everything was perfect till I tried to load the damn mod.

I reinstalled Civ 4 and Warlords fine, but When I try reinstalling BTS I get a errorcode -5006: 0x8007045d
I have tried renaming installshield I'm on XP

I used to have no problem with XP and Vista, now it does (W7 Ultimate 32) cause problems.
Do you know if patch 3.19 can be installed directly over the CD, or do I have to go through 3.17 first??
Thks

My problem (I forgot to state it) is that after a few minutes play (BTS vanilla or BTS ROM+), the computer switches off abruptly. It restarts, and can reload a play, but again... a few mins, and it's all kaputt.

"yes you can patch directly in most cases - but no bug in the game should reboot your computer. Is there any error message when it does that?"

Nothing, the computer simply quits without any warning. When W7 restarts, there is the usual info "W. did not close properly..."

But in fact everything restarts ok.

"Sounds like your overheating."

Well, I did not check the temperature, but I don't think so. The same machine (on dual boot) with the other setup (Vista) has absolutely no problem with BtS-ROM (except for the "normal" MAFs, which is indicated with an error message "Out of memory, memory allocation failure")

And the W7 setup works fine for all other activities. So, it's something in the Civ setup -- even Civ4 vanilla has the same problem, so it doesn't depend upon BtS or ROM. However, I've reinstalled thrice, updated the video drivers and still it does this.

At first, it would give error messages of various DLLs missing, but I've managed to fix that (all the various dx... and other required DLLs are now in "system", "system32" and in "civ" folders).

It also happens after a time interval -- not when doing a particular activity in Civ -- about 20 mins, and then... poof!

your computer is definately overheating !!!

check if your CPU and/or GPU fans are ok ... if you could post your systemspecs, would be helpfull ...

Sounds like overheating to me too. My laptop started to do exactly the same thing for no apparent reason. I blew big lumps of dust & fluff out of the fan and the problem went away. It must have got sucked in when I had a big house cleaning session, now I have an excuse to leave the cleaning well alone!

I can totally understand. You think nature abhors a vacuum...

I have been playing civilisation 4 on my computer for a while, I had no problems until recently where it keeps saying:
"Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select ok and restart application."
My game came with only 1 disc and the disc is in my comp, but it still refuses to work. plz help.

Hi all,

I got a new laptop (I7 Q820, 6GB, ATI HD4670, Windows 7). I installed Civ IV and BTS (and the latest patch 3.19). At the first attempt, I could not even start BTS (blank screen instead of the main game menu: the computer was completely frozen). I solved this problem by setting the resolution myself in the ini file (screenwidth 1920, screenheight 1080).

My computer now crashes when I try to change the graphic settings or when I try to exit the game.

Here is my dxdiag. Hope you will be able to help me thanks.
