Vor the voice capture device, open your BtS.ini (Standard path C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Civ4\BtS\Civilization4.ini; rightclick, open with Wordpad/Notepad), and change
PHP:
; Enable voice over IP capture and playback
EnableVoice = 1

to 0.

For the rest...looks likve overheating.
-> check the temperature of your CPU and graphics card and look, if all the fans are running.

Hello! I'm new here. I registered because I've a problem with Civilization IV.

When I try to run it, it loads everything and when the game is starting, the computer crashes and a blue screen pops out. I meet the recommended requirements, and I use Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Please, if you know how to fix it, tell me soon...

What version of Civilization 4 is this? Plain Civ? Complete? With one of the expansions Warlords or Beyond the Sword? Disc or Digital download?

Have you patched the game?

Civilization IV Complete, the two expansions. Disc.

And no, I didn't patch it.

I'm trying to play online. I downloaded the patch. but i'm not sure how to install it. Help would be appreciated.

My fiance has been playing civilization IV on his laptop for several months now. Last week we both updated our virus software and now his game will not load. I tried it on my laptop as well and the disc is not even being recognized. Our virus software has a "gamer setting" (turns off things that may affect game play) on it and we tried that and it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey I just bought Civilization IV (no expansions) and after installing it wouldn't start, so I got patches 1.61 and 1.74 off of the Firaxis games website.

After I got these, the loading of the game progressed further, and the startup icon looked better. But after it went to a black screen it'd stop and an error would come up that said '' Init error - Error loading shader libraries ''.

I just bought this computer brand new a few months back when starcraft 2 came out. Its windows 7. Is there some other type of patch or something to install so this error goes away? I am hoping to get this game working thanks in advance!

Install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

This will not affect the DirectX11 that you have with Win 7.

If you think it's your antivirus, try turning it off altogether just to try if that is it.

If his disc is not being recognised in either of your computers it may be that it is dirty or damaged. If your disc works in both that would also point to a damaged disc. Try gently cleaning it.

Hello all,
Familiar question I'm sure, but here it is again anyways.

I have 64 bit windows 7 and my copy of Civ 4...no expansions, installed.
When I either run it from the disk, or from the icon windows tells me that there are known compatibility issues...so I tell it to run program anyways.

It goes through a brief loading screen and drops to a blue progress bar that says "Check XML" just like it always did when I had XP. The only difference is it stops running and says that a problem has occurred and Civ 4 has stopped running.

All my drivers are up-to-date as well as my OS, and DirectX (anytime I try to load any DirectX updates or previous versions I get the message that I have a newer version and no downloads are performed) (I tried to install DirectX 9.0c from a link in this thread, but I got the same message as written above). I am running it as the admin.

At first I though maybe if I downloaded the patch v1.61 from the Civ 4 website it might work, but when I click the link all i get is "No MySQL connection".

I am at a loss...I have attempted to uninstall/re-install which hasn't helped, and my disk works perfectly fine.

Any help would be much appreciated.
I hopefully have included all needed info.

You need to patch Civ 4 to the latest patch for W7. Download 1.74 from here and install it by right clicking on the .exe and selecting run as administrator.

1.52 is a very old patch.
The latest versions are:
Vanilla Civ 4: 1.74
Warlords: 2.13
Beyond the Sword: 3.19

When I downloaded the patch and ran it, it said that the system didn't detect a version of Civ4 was installed. Well, I cant install because I get the rendering error. Is this what was happening to you? Solution?
