Fix-It List

What patch were you trying to install?

Complete is fully patched for Civ 4 and Warlords.

Your graphics driver is abolutely ancient - update it. ATI's website is here:http://www.amd.com/uk/Pages/AMDHomePage.aspx but you will probably have to get the driver from HP as they are fussy about using their version of the drive not the original ATI driver.

You may also want to consider updating your Windows XP to Service Pack 3

Hi guys, just registered.

I have Civ 4 1.74 on my laptop, an hp pavilion dv2615nr with a 256mb geforce 7150M graphics card, a turion 64 X2 1.8 ghz processor, and 960 mb of RAM.

This game runs like poo, stuttering even on small map sizes with all the settings overridden from the desktop nvidia menu. I've tried everything I can think of: drivers, vista to xp, pagefile edits, fresh install, lowering settings, clearing processes, even some sketchy downloaded unofficial fixes.

I'm at my wits' end here, I can't quite bring myself to read 70 pages of posts so I'm at your mercy. Can anyone point me towards a solution? I know that this computer meets the recommended specs, and I don't give a hoot about graphics.

Some more info,
This is a fresh install of xp pro sp3(love it when it's so fresh and new), I've tried the game originally on vista with version 1.61, then xp, then xp with version 1.74, I've got the newest nvidia drivers, and my girlfriend is ready to break it off because I just threatened to throw her laptop out the window.

Thanks in advance, sorry for not reading all the posts.

Hi everyone,

Just got Civ4 and when I try to install and when I am in setup screen, program stops somewhere in a middle and I get

"Feature transfer Error
Feature: Default Feature
Component: Civ4 component
File: E:/ Data2.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"

message. Anyone please help, I have Windows 7 on this computer, is it why I get this message, any way around it? I am very not computer literate, please help!

A feature transfer effor is most likely due to a damaged/dirty disc.
Try gently cleaning the disc.
Try copying the contents of the disc to your hard drive and run setup from there.
If that fails, some people have posted that this may help: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061220141921AAZXL5O

As you have W7 remember to start setup by right clicking on the file and choosing run as administrator.

Thank you. Running as administator helped. :) So excited.

Hello, I'm re-installing Civilization IV Complete on the Vista home computer, I un-installed it before but left the accounts and game saves on, however I have come upon a problem. Whenever I put in the disk it shows the options for play, read me, and exit; instead of the install option. When I click play, five errors pop up saying they could not locate specific files, which I had un-installed.

I ran a search in the documents, and deleted everything I could find, (leaving Colonization files on) however it still had the same results. I am mainly asking for places to look when manually completely an uninstallation. Thank you for your help.

Answered in the thread you started.

I keep getting an error message when trying to run mods. It tells me that it couldn't access the memory at a number, and then tells me it has to quit the application. I get a similar message with another game (Uprising 2) and that occurs when I try to start it (it appears it won't load 3D images...) Does anyone know the problem? I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate on an HP pavilian Entertainment PC with a Centrino Duo processor, and a Nvidia graphics card

bought a new PC this weekend which runs windows 7(64) , I reinstalled the game (dvd version complete) and it works fine. I want to play with Rise of mankind mod though, but I can't get it to work. When I leave everything I can choose RoM mod and but the game exits but doesn't restart.
So I try to put the exe (of beyond the sword 3.19) to compatability XP (SP2), but then I get 'please insert CD'? All of a sudden it doesn't detect my dvd nomore.

Anyone know how to get fix the 'please insert cd' problem?

but it doesn't! If I start BTS 3.19 in windows 7 there is no problem, but if I put it in compatibility mode it keeps telling me there's no dvd in the PC. So the problem is not the mod but the compatibility mode

The in-game update for 3.19 does not work, download and install the patch outside of the game. Download it fresh from here. If you have Vista or Win7, install it by right clicking on the .exe and choosing run as administrator.

You can check in the game what you are patched to. Look in the Advanced menu and select About this Build.

Hi, I just installed civ 4, but when i try to launch the game i get this error

Hi.

Any advice on a bit of a funny one ?

My Windows 7 PC (8Gb, Quad core 2.50GHz, GEForce GT 220) has started to hang on an annoyingly frequent basis when playing BTS multiplayer over my Wireless LAN.

It's fine running single player, any world size & number of Civs that I can bother to try. Will happily carry on for as long as I'm allowed to play. :goodjob:

And it used to be quite happy running BTS multiplayer over a LAN, until the last 2-3 weeks. I added a Buffalo NAS, and configured a Creative Soundblaster Alpha headphones + mic over the Xmas period - that's the only changes I can think of that I've made to the system since it worked happily.

Now, playing BTS MP over the wireless LAN, after about half an hour the screen goes into power saving mode (presumably no signal coming from the PC), keyboard shows no response to pressing Caps Lock, but PC whirrs on as if normal. Only way out is to restart the PC.

Only happens with Civ 4 BtS (though we don't really do any other multiplayer LAN games), happens even if I have switched the NAS off, and I can't see anything useful in Event Viewer (though I appreciate I may not be looking in the right place).

I need to get some more info - any suggestions on what I can run for diagnostics, or where I can look in Event Viewer ?

Thanks

Okay, I've never really poked around the tech support forum, but this seems to be the "help-with-simple-problem" thread. I installed BtS on my new laptop, patched 3.19, loaded BUG and BAT, and am putzing around a game trying to get things looking the way I like them. Came across a problem that I don't know as I've ever seen, even back to unmodded vanilla. On the map, my city bar has always had the number of turns until growth/production in parenthesis. I can't recall ever not seeing that. Well... now they're gone... and I have no idea why. Please help? Thanks.

Hi,

I am new to this game (i played the second civilization) and was wondering if windows 7 will work with it.

@kbashley: Yeah, Windows 7 works fine with Civ, in fact, it runs even better IMO
