i think i got the cabert "meet the guy from overseas for trade opportunities" chance this time. i met gus in 1470, lib didn't come in until 1500. i got machinery and printing press in trades from the new guy before lib. between getting prereqs from him early, and the "wait a turn between trades and put in some beakers towards self-research" thing, i ended up getting guilds, compass, music, banking, and engineering from liberalism, and i couldn't get a thing out of bis or roos mind you *giggle*. so thanks for extra chances gus! did it help me as much as it should have, or put me any farther ahead at the end of the round than anyone else? heck no, cuz i'm not as good as cabert and can't use luck as skillfully. wait a second ... maybe this means i should resent cabert even
more...
i read the other reports and figured i'd do it the shortest way possible. i went thru my notes to look up what techs i got, with the ones i learned myself marked with * :
machinery, PP, liberalism*, guilds, compass, music, banking, engineering, optics*, nationalism, astronomy*, constitution, economics*, chemistry*
chemistry came in this turn but i have not yet traded it. i put signs up next to a jumbo with movement to point that out

. that way those more skilled than i can do their own trading magic if any is possible. brennus doesn't want to part with corp for it, but cyrus would give me either his gold and DR for it, or RP for it with my gold thrown in. case can be made for either, since RP is super but bis/gus/brennus don't know DR yet. the old "do i risk waiting a turn to earn more money/get another tech from trade/self-research beakers, or will brennus learn chemistry in the meantime?" question. i know what i'd do tho
the weirdest thing that i probably should explain:
1540 i'm not sure when it happened, but camul (size 12 now) is recovering from a revolt it apparently had to the celtic empire, 2 turns remaining in revolt. suddenly cyrus needs iron according to the resource screen. i check the map, he has one source and he's gifting it to brennus; his other source is that one by camul that he just lost ... to brennus! well, he's making cavalry and riflemen, they don't use iron, he doesn't have chem so he doesn't have steel, so he's not making cannon. if he was, i'd not give him iron. but since he's not, and since i'm not making any either, i rip him off and sell him my iron for 10 gpt. haha jerkface. i cannot stop laughing.
so that's why that deal is there. i'm certain you wondered
and i found this bizarre:
1560 i start looking around in brennusville since i have OB. i see the troops in bibracte and my jaw drops. then i realize half belong to cyrus. including a ... persian galley??? bibracte is inland, cyrus didn't sail it in from outside, and brennus couldn't have gifted it to cyrus in celtic territory, even if he could have built it in bibracte which he didn't. maybe it got stuck and transported when camul revolted, i dunno, but i'm giggling. i bet it will be there forever, or until he and brennus don't have OB, he won't disband it.
tarsus has: 7 riflemen, 6 cavalry, 2 trebs from cyrus's side. and some spare celtic troops in there: 1 rifleman, 3 horse archers, 2 cavs, 4 jumbos and 2 catapults. yes i believe i shall stay in my cozy little "build oxford and other buildings" world and not try to beat these guys up.
diplomacy i'm happy with. at the end, cyrus and bismarck are both friendly, so they will trade, yeehaw. brennus isn't but that's fine, he's bottom half so he'll trade anyway. my goal with him was just "have him like me enough to trade with me and not DoW me". gus hadn't hit WFYABTA yet but i expect him to soon. if i think somebody from overseas will attack, i can sign DPs with bis and/or cyrus. if i think bis and/or cyrus will turn on me, i can unplug my pc

.
all cities are now jewish. i had a combination of playing-too-late-at-night and not-realizing-how-soon-the-round-was-over thing at the end, so some cities have more than thing in the queue since i was swapping around in my wierd way that i couldn't explain to you if i tried. i just do things weird. as far as military, i actually did build HE in calcutta, and i built us two boats. the workboat, and a caravel to go meet korea since he still hadn't shown up. i met him in 1585. and realized that altho he was our first contestant to reach democracy, and was already running universal sufferage and emancipation, he was in the bottom as far as score. he was up 6 techs that i could see, which doesn't count democracy. yes i felt a wee bit behind.
my workers got bored and had no success with their backup plan of trying to learn the secrets of replaceable parts by watching cyrus's and bismarck's workers, so they went over to clear some jungle in case we wanted to make some other city there. they had nothing better to do in the meantime.
