Flag Horizontal

It's made rather for mods that focus on industrial/modern era.
It contains example TeamFlags that'll appear in new version of 1939 Mod. They contain countries that don't exist in Civ (Poland, Finland, etc.) and don't have some flags for countries that appear in game (Mayas, Celts etc.).

1. The flag isn't animated animated (removed wind)
2. It uses different TeamFlags - check example flags - so don't forget to update your TeamFlags

WWII in the Pacific has a 48-star flag. You could easily rotate it 90 degrees for this mod.

Yeah i would use in my personal mod tweak of civ, but i haven't idea what flag give for example to Celts, Maya (For Aztexs I would give flag of Mexico), and couple of other countries.

I used 48 star flag (it were in use untill 1952)
The same goes for Flag of Canada (instead white/red with leaf i used the one used during ww2) and couple of other countries (Germany, Egypt, South Africa, Spain etc.)

Asio -- how easy would it be to use this in an epic-style mod? Any significant reworking other than replacing the flag DDS files?

just .dds

You need to put your flag into the rectangle in wich is british flag. The rest is black and won't be visible - the horizontal flag is made with alpha channel trick.

+ of course .xml (if needed)

I supposed that i'm not only one who dislikes banners and would like to see normal flags

I'm not good (i could say i'm noob) in animations so my answer would be - yes very hard.

During making this flag i (and Snafusmith who was trying to help with flag) met two problems:
- any changes done to the model in max makes white elements of flags pink. So for example flag of France would be Blue-Pink-Red. It somehow connected to shaders. The official plugin misses those shaders. Snafusmith tried to apply it in nifviewer but it didn't fixed the problem.
- rotating flag with armature makes quite the effect we want, but new problems appear - with medallions and aligment of the flag on the pole. screenshot and more detail here. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=257638 (that can't be fixed in editing animations)
- another method wich was succesfull is not rotating flag but stretching it (in nifskope and nifviewer) a bit and adjust .dds. The problem is with weird animations - they don't look naturally. So it can be fixed in max (i tried but i wasn't succesfull, and i don't plan to make it again - all this experiments with flag was quite much frustrating - tough i learned couple of new things so it's ok) or disable it (deleting movement of the bones). I finally choosed to disable it - so the flag isn't moved by wind (I made fake wind effect in .dds - but it isn't animated).

If you want to animate it use max (change only .kf files, as i said changing .nif would make the white flags pink)

Cool. There wouldn't be any problem with using the original Civ flags, just a matter of altering the DDS files, right?

yeah - you need just stretch them - orginally firaxis emblems are represented as squares - you need to change the proportions to fit it well

Well for the Celts a Boar would be perfect! Even better would be a solid ( like a small statue on a stick) standard of a boar or wolf, but I doubt that would be possible. But a simple Boar flag would work well for the Celts.
