Unfortunately, even if I had the time to do this, I don't have the resources... I'm getting 3DS Max soon, but it'll take me several months to become profficient enough to even attempt something like this.

Hopefully somebody skilled with POV Ray, Rhino 3D, or 3DS Max can undertake these.

I regret that this is the only kind of picture I can find for a Chu-Ko-Nu Crossbowman

This thread has grown very large and no-one's even done any work yet. (actually I don't think much work will be done until DyP units are done) but, I say we start from the begining and work from there. ie. Warrior.

The current civ warrior works well for most european civs and the americans but, we need an asian warrior, middle eastern warrior ect. I think we just need to decide what civs the current warrior would work for. Now remember we're thinking ancient ancient here.

These Civs could use the basic civ III warrior
Civs:Russian
Rome
Greece
Germany
France
England
America
Carthage
Spain

The Iroquiois could use Utah's Iroquiois warrior.

The rest of the civs (shown in goups) could possibly need a replacement, as their warrior may look different.

Arabia, Ottoman and India-
Celts-
Mongol, Korea, China, Japan-
Vikings-
Aztecs-
Babylonians-
Egypt-
Persia-
Zulu-

Please feel free to give oppinions and correct me if you think that the civIII warrior would be fine for the celts for example or if you think Egypt could be grouped in with Arabia or something like that.

If we choose to use troops from the Boxer Rebellion, can we at least give the poor fellows some guns so they don't get sent to the meat grinder again? :(

Kindred, don't forget the Americans... I think they could use the regular Warrior too.

Oh wait... you have them sorry.

Btw, I think we can use the Pictish Warrior for the Celts. I mean, they aren't from the same time period, but honestly, you can't get much more primitive than a naked guy with a shield and something sharp.

Here's what I think I'm going to do... create a new unit status category and put an X next to any unit that doesn't really need a flavor unit. Of course, if somebody should decide to make one for that one, then whatever. But this'll just knock them off priority.

I think the Celts and the Vikings could get by with the regular Warrior.

Personally, I'd lump Carthage with the Middle Eastern civs as far as the Warrior goes. True, they used primarily European fighters against the Romans, but they are still a North African civ and also could represent the Phoenicians to a certain extent.

The Aztecs have the Jaguar Warrior, which is a neat unit regardless of the historical accuracy of its appearance.

Also, in the upcoming expansion pack, there will be at least one ancient middle eastern warrior for the Sumerians. I don't know how far you are taking Conquests into consideration, though.

The Egyptians could probably use a replacement, since I always picture their soldiers as wearing the white linen loincloth and not furs.

Unfortunately, we don't know exactly what will be in Conquests... my guess would be that they'll have more than just 8 new units for the UUs of the new civs... I may be wrong however. We pretty much ignore them for now since we really don't know what'll be in there. But if somebody actually manages to create a unit that overlaps with a Conquests unit, we can always find another spot for it. Until then, we have to wait.

Won't some of the DyP units you guys are working on fill some of these gaps?

I thought about this, but I picture a celt warrior with some sort of skin art, and a viking with a beard, I dunno why.

As far as the pictish warrior, I thought about that too, but these "ancient" warriors shouldn't have swords and shields.

By the way, I always thought the pictish warrior was female.

Geat idea, Dom Pedro. :) May be, you colud use this unit (once the last file is finished) too. It's a roman Velite, could be used instad of archers for roman civ. Status is green, but since more than two weeks I can't do anything, and I don't know when this will change. Preview is without shadows, the original has some.

[edit: attachment deleted, becouse of no need for.]

is that using the AoK Javilineer as the base? seems that way since the angles are mirrored.

As I said before, we're trying to avoid using converted units...

Cut and pasted jobs with Civ3 base units are fine, but it'd be better to avoid graphics from other games.

In answer to a request from Kryten, I'm going to be giving a big help actually to the cut and pasters though because I'm going to release a Pak of stuff including a naked man posed for running, death, throwing, shooting with a rifle, shooting with a bow and arrow, stabbing, slicing, oh it goes on and on... I'll also try to include with that assorted tunics, shields, swords, spears, bows and arrows, crossbows, etc.

:( Thats a pitty. And sorry, I didn't read all pages, so I'm going to delete my preview now. :(

However, most of the 3D-modeled units (> 80%) IMHO don't fit the Civ3-style. So I personaly don't like them in my games very much. Well, that's only my opinion.
Are you going to make them fit better? How your units would look like, could you post a preview? :)
