Hello,

I am (still) modding, and wonder if I should use the 'Flavors' for buildings. What would this add? Does it influence the AI picks much?

I assume it effects diplomacy, and I've set that bit. Although it is hard to judge the results.

I like to use every game mechanic I can, what can be done with this?

Flavours don't have any effect on diplomacy.

What they do is add a weighting to buildings and technology.

This means that if, say Rome has Flavour 1, and Flavour 1 has a 50% relation with Flavour 2, and The Wheel has Flavour 2 selected, The Wheel would have a normal (all things being considered) chance of being researched. If Flavour 1 had a 100% relationship with Flavour 3, which Ceremonial Burial had, then Rome would be considerably more likely in this situation to research Ceremonial Burial before it researches The Wheel.

Also, bare in mind that it only weights their selection choices - even if Flavour 1 had a 0% chance of researching, say, Flavour 4, but Monarchy had Flavour 4 selected, the AI Roman civ would still see Monarchy as an important technology to research - this is because it regards the availability of a Government from a tech very highly.

Improvements/Wonders work in pretty much exactly the same way.

Thanks,

OK, so we help nudge the steering through the tech tree - pushing scholarly people towards the Library, and the warlike towards the Barracks. I'll go through and fill a few things in.

I thought the main screen was about Diplomacy (doh) - it just sets the basic relationships, then it picks up flavours comparing the Civ to the tech or building.

You can select more than one flavour for a Civ though - which must muddle things.

Since religions are part of the tech tree in my mod, I was hoping that somehow flavors would have some bearing upon the AI's attitude to other AI and to the player. Create some kind of affinity to like believing civilizations.

From earlier reading of articles and posts, I thought flavors had much more impact than the manner in which technology is created. There are posts about flavors of good versus evil for example, and I believe political systems.

What I wanted to do was have three main branches of flavors:
1. Liberal, Neutral, and Conservative
2. Nature is respected, Nature is cooperated with, Nature is to be dominated
3. Spiritual beliefs Atheism, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, and Islam

Then I was counting upon flavors being stackable such as to heavily influence future alliances.
