Man whats wrong with this forum why there is no search function except google?

I cant find my own posts i dont remember topic names how i find em? i try click my profile info and then find all messages created by me and went to dead page, why admin on this forum disabled search?

If u really think google can do it all then suggest me search string to find posts created by me.

Its been turned-off to reduce the load on the server and prevent it grinding to a halt.

I suggest that for any threads that you are interested in, you use the "Thread Tools" link at the top and choose "subscribe to thread". That way, you can maintain a list of all of them accessible via your user control panel.

There should also be a black dot in the middle of the envelope of any thread you have posted in.

If you go to the top of any page, second option from the left it says "User CP." All threads that you've posted in or subscribed to will be there (similar to what ainwood was describing).

Does it save that much speed? You're also more likely to multiple thread topics if no search is available, taking some bandwitdh. The "who's online" and avatar both are no brainers as far as disabling, though.

I think it does help with the forum speed. I'd rather have reasonable page loading speed and no search than search and extremely slow loading speed.

Of late, we have 800-1500 people online at once at any one time...

It only apears there after topic get replay i guess.

Why dont just set pause between searches about 60 seconds its works for most forums with database on slow server, or just get host your sql db somwhere else?

There used to be a wait time of 180 seconds. I'd rather have it off with fast forums than on with slower thread loadings.

Oh, its so usefull feature can u make timer 10 minutes or 1 hour or 1 day - we need this feature!

Yes, I never realized how often I use the 'search' feature until now (especially in C&C).

Hoping for its eventual return..... (any way to just enable it for certain forums?)

This is the only large forum I've found with search disabled. People, forums are USELESS with no search function. Back to Apolyton folks.

I've never really understood the appeal of search. All the important game info you need is in the War Academy, and if it's a non-game thread I'll usually remember it if it's interesting enough for me to want to find again.

There are certainly forums where search is helpful - the official NWN boards, for example - but things here are well organized enough that I very seldom need search.

That said, I'm clearly in the minority since search wouldn't be slowing the forum down so much if everyone wasn't using it . . .

Meh... I only use the search function indirectly to occasionally view other people's latest posts. Other than that... feel free to keep it off if it increases forum speed.
