Forum Server Upgrade Next Month

I am not sure if you are joking or serious, but this is a reference to Dell Computer Corp and the modem headaches I went through including getting the wrong replacement part shipped the first time.

That was fairly painless.Definitely noticing a difference :goodjob:

I don't care what time it is

I changed the forum time zone offset to GMT +7 (Bankok, Hanoi, Jakarta) from GMT -6 (Central Time). Now the time is correct. :D

Not bad for a temporary solution. ;)

I assumed thats what you meant but I wanted to make sure :)

Are you guys sure you upgraded it???? I still get the server busy message for the second time today. And I do not feel any difference. :(

It's upgraded... no doubt about that. Maybe some of the server settings just need to be tweaked to optimize the performance...

Edit: I am working with Telefragged to resolve the server problems. In the mean time, I have re-enabled the forum's server load management feature so you may see server busy signal again when the server load becomes high.

Hurray! And the search is re-enabled! Hurray again!
Yep, and the * wildcard feature has been re-enabled! I can now finally see it's true power! :D (I don't think it's ever been enabled while I've been here.)

And now the new server will die under the load of 50 people searching for "*" in all forums...

If the server can handle the load the wildcard searching is great!

 Too bad you can't do that; when I tried, it gave me this infamous vBulletin message: "The search term you specified (*) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific."

Just think what it would be like if you could do it: "Showing results 1-25 out of 1,026,991"

Edit: I tried searching for *is*, but it gave me a "The page cannot be displayed" page. :hmm:

Yes indeed. Using it I am now 99% sure that I don't need to worry about my Civ3 resistance testing having been done before.

vBulletin Message
The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.

:(

My hopes are shattered.

Politely ask WillJ to stop searching for "****" ;)

Well at the time, i too was searching for "****" :mischief: So i can't really complain.

Anyhoo, WillJ , could you please refrain from searching through these bonny forums for "****"?

:p

Guys, it is a sign of respect not to trash another person's server.

Deliberately putting it under strain will get the search wildcards removed - please show restraint!

I just got it again. It seems to be worse than before but probably because some people are searching for “*****” not to mention any usernames...
