FOTH-01 It's a Wiki, Wiki World!!

I am up in three SG's now so won't be able to play until tomorrow sometime FOTH as I also have to work tonight. Also are we playing with the patch or without? I have a dual install so either is fine.

Ok this is "I got it" and playing now without patch.

Turn 1

Last turn of Baru’s turnset still going. Haithabu is now joined Confucianism. Worker starts a farm.
Look around and change Bjorgvin to theater to pop borders likewise for Jelling since both Lib/Ch will take too long to build until we get some production there.

Birka finishes longbowman settler queued (but nowhere to settle??) so start a theater for culture there as well.

Turn 2

Uppsala finishes Berserker start worker as we could use some more.

Turn 3

Workers heading to Jelling to build plantation. Nidaros finishes university start Notre Dame (use GE for that to get the extra happy) and contemplated either Angkor Wat or Sistine Chapel but we have no specialists so Notre Dame the best choice right now.

Turn 4

Nidaros finishes Notre Dame start harbor for health.

Curly/Moe/Larry head over to the church and decide to take a look. Nice church aye Moe….Moe says no you idiot it’s a cathedral. Oh wise guy aye isn’t a cathedral just big church. Oh shut up Curly and double pokes him. Oh wise guy and puts up the hand to block his poke. Nyuk, Nyuk and just when curly’s not looking Moe gets him with a frying pan. Just when Moe isn’t looking Larry gets him with the double eye poke and a non stop poking match starts.

Turn 5

Moe I mean Mali trades spices for silk.

Turn 6

Finish plantation at Jelling and chop finishes theater start on the bananas.

Ok this guy Homer shows up at Notre Dame and pokes all three in the eyes. After which he asks where can a guy get some banana sandwiches. MMMMM bananas……

Curly gets Homer with a frying pan but he doesn’t even budge. Ok but where are the banana sandwiches guys I’m hungry. DOH ……

Turn 7

Uppsala finishes a worker and start a confused monastery.

Turn 8

Nidaros finishes harbor start confused monastery.

Turn 9

Finish bananas start road. (mmmmm bananas)

Turn 10

Finish liberalism start on guilds for grocer/knights/ and banking.

Bananas hooked up now and solved some health problems especially at Nidaros.

Ok now last turn and must trade but WTF…….. Didn’t we do any trade last turn or before????

Liz will trade liberalism for engineering and gold and of course as per variant accept.

Ok what happen here did we not give these away last turn since a lot of these techs weren’t discovered during my turn???? Ok double eye poke for Baru…

I hated to give any of these away so since I like to get something for it I ask HC what it will take to make peace with Wang since we don’t need him expanding on our borders. I had a screenshot but it didn’t take. (probably didn’t press printscreen long enough)
He agrees and use the remaining techs for some gold. Now HC is just as advanced as the rest to my dismay but hey we the three stooges so who cares right. ARGH!!!!!

Wang also offers gold for the techs we give him as well.

Same for Hannibal however he has techs since he fears we are too advanced now.

We also make this trade with him.

Nyuk, Nyuk at least Mansa won’t be able to trade away or sell any of his techs.

It’s all yours Douglas……

Banana Sandwiches

Looks good, Cosmichail!!

We seem to be keeping pace on tech very well now. Nice get with Notre Dame. We will need to maximize our cities to compete for the ship so all happy is good happy!

I probably have some free time tomorrow, so if douglas doesn't grab it by then, I may go ahead. However, I'll post another note if I do play it.

All yours douglas.

Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.....

1260- Hasting has 3 LB's guarding it! We need some more power- England could declare any second (neg. relation + low power) Pusan should be the target.

1270- Jelling gets a border pop.
Bananas hooked up, Whoop, Whoop, Whoop!

1280- monastery->beserker in Nidaros
monastery->university in Uppsala

1300- chop for settler in Birka

1310- settler->treb in Birka (need to lower Pusan's defence + cheaper 8str compared to beserk)

1320- The eye poking guild (EPG) has formed. Long live the EPG! Note: The EPG has developed a method of mounting people with long sharp eye pokers aka swords on horses for high speed, 10 str poking power. We should train some to assault pusan with. Now researching Printing Press (is this the plan?)
bzkr->mounted eye poker in Nidaros.
We share the knowledge of guildiness with all our fellow civilizations and receive the following in return.

-banking
-80g
-World Map

That's a lot of dead giveaways.

Church of the nativity built in Mali.

1330- Englands' GA ends.

1340- England revolts...Free Market and Religion result.

1350- Bjorgvin culture pop...send workers to the iron there.

1360- zzz

We need those universities up, then lets send knights & a trebuchet to take Pusan.

Nice turns douglas!!

Actually, we need to talk about that. We have now met the last research condition in the variant. :band: [party]

So now we need to think about a couple of things. One, our research path. Two, since we won't every have more than a few turn advantage over the other civs on tech, we need to decide on whether we want to try for any more wonders. Three, Great People, we could try to stockpile some engineers to pop the space elevator.....

I should be able to grab the save tonight, but probably won't play until tomorrow.

EDIT: Sorry for the delay, but it is election night and I am a political junkie so I probably won't play until tomorrow (Nov 8th).

Hmmmph, I'm a victim of coicumstance......

Not, really. Basically an infrastructure round.

First couple of turns saw Knights and Trebs completed and some grocers started. We are really short on health so I'm hoping the grocers will help our cities grow a bit.

In 1390AD I decided to open borders with Elizabeth and Mansa. There is no territory left for them to settle, so I figured the benefits of diplomacy would be worth it.

In 1420AD, universities complete in Uppsala and Haithabu. I started a treb in Uppsala and a harbor in Haithabu. I've been trying to build about one military unit for each two infrastructure builds, that way we can still keep a force going if we get the opportunity to jump into a fight.

1430AD - Printing Press finishes and I start some trading. We get Econ from Liz and Optics and some cash from Huayna.

1440AD - nice addition to the family!!

Probably should have discussed use of him with the group, but decided that Nidaros is going to be our science city so I used him for the academy. May get an eyepoke for that one. :crazyeye: He would have provided about half the beakers needed for astronomy, but with so many turns left in the game, I think we get the most bang for the buck from the academy. We may want to settle any future scientists in Nidaros.

I stopped after 9 turns to get us back on an even number (1450AD) and started some infrastructure builds.

Also, did the final obligatory trading/gifting. Got 460 gold from Hannibal and Wang by sending them techs. Didn't have to give anything away for free this time. :D

Astronomy comes in in 8 turns. Probably won't be able to trade it for much (I think everyone pretty much has it, but we need it for the observatories).

We need to start working on specializing Nidaros as the science city. Best thing may be to chop all the forests and cottage just about everything. Once we have 3 more universities built, we can start Oxford in Nidaros, that would be the time to chop and cottage so we can speed up Oxford.

Here is the tech status at the end of the set.

Not really that bad for a small landlocked civ.

Save is attached.

Updated Roster:

Foolonthehill ---
Baru --- Indefinite skip...
Cosmichail --UP!
douglas 21 --- On Deck!

Somehow, I think I've managed to screw up the roster order so I now have us in the order that we've played the last sets.

And so it is my turn once again. Good job FOTH........

Shall play probably tomorrow sometime.

Ok I'm confused and wonder why I didn't catch this sooner. Perhaps being lazy and not looking at the civics. Question: why are we still at Barbarism and not Bureaucracy. Also we have free market too but running decentralization. Am I missing something? Nothing in the variants says anything about it so I think we should change to get more out of Nidaros and get use out of markets with free market. In addition I believe Hannibal likes that civic too so he will be friendlier.

My turns started out kind of quiet but wait til the end oh yeah. We just a victim of circoimstance. Let’s say I think FOTH has clairvoyance.

Preturn – I revolt to Bureaucracy/free market which only take 1 turn of anarchy. Later in the game it is obvious that this was a good move.

Turn 1

zzzzz

Turn 2

Larry, Moe and Curly are visiting the capitol to ensure things are wacky. The governor says ok guys here we have the university of Sankore known for it’s great knowledge. Curly asks would they know anything on defenses for the eye poke. The governor looks at Curly and doesn’t really get it. You know so he eye pokes Larry and Larry puts the hand defending against eye poke. See guvona that’s one, but are there any others. Well the governor says looking at Moe maybe safety glasses but is having difficulty containing his laugh. Moe shouts: “cut it out meathead. Let the governor show us around”. Oooooh ok Moe and then Moe eye pokes Curly and he doesn’t expect it and gets it good. Wise guy aye and goes for Moe but he’s too fast. The governor just looks at them and heads back to his office.

Besides that Nidaros starts an aqueduct for health especially to avoid eye poke.

Turn 3

Birka starts a courthouse lots of three stooges imitators there.’

Turn 4

Start a chain farm at Roskilde. (Larry, Curly, and Moe are arrested in Nidaros and
are on the chain gang)

Turn 5

Wang Kon asks us to cancel deals with Huyana and pull a three stooges and poke him in the eye. He don’t like that at all. Wow no sense of humour.

Turn 6

Jelling starts a Crossbow needs some defense.

Turn 7

zzzzzzz

Turn 8

We discover astronomy and start on gunpowder. (no picture I think we all know what it looks like)

Here’s the surprise and the picture says it all:

Turn 9

Good thing we have a big army outside Pusan. (FOTH’s clairvoyance) Nyuk, nyuk Wang what can you do to our Berserker and trebuchet. Haaaaa we are invincible.
(ok there is some sarcasm here but draw a few troops out and upgrade HA/Axe at Nidaros to reinforce.)
Wang attacks with 5 hwacha’s and one longbow. He does manage to take a knight/berserker/treb. We however manage to take out lbm/ and four Hwachas.

Turn 10

Nidaros is tweaked for better production and good thing we switched civics for better unit production. It will pump out berserkers very fast.

Turn 11

I know you said 10 turns FOTH but we might as well play more if we can since there is only three of us and want to leave some kind of army for the next guy.
Hannibal wants to trade rice for corn and oblige.

Turn 12

Haithabu/Uppsala start trebuchets and Roskilde a lib for culture/knowledge.

Turn 13

Wang sends another batch of soldiers this time one lbm/four Hwachas. We take out three Hwachas and loose one berserker to one Hwacha. Our treb takes out lbm at 4.9% odds. Our men are healing and doing the eye poke.

We also discover gunpowder and start on chemistry.

I check for trades and again can’t get anything out of it so sell Hannibal astronomy for 30 bucks big deal. HC won’t give us anything so sorry I am defying the variant but not giving him gunpowder. I think we should turn research to 0% after chemistry is finished and let the other guys do the research for a while and then catch up so we won’t have to give away valuable/strategic techs like gunpowder.

Turn 14

Hannibal demands we cancel deals with mansa but decline. Mansa demands we cancel deals with Huyana but decline. I hate when the AI does that as in this game they screw you in to having no deals with AI’s but yet MM/Hannibal will merrily go along and trade with everybody. Screw that had enough of that. I even seen Isabella too trade with other religion civs but treat the human player like it had the plague. Some of this game makes no sense to me.

Battlefront just waiting to get some troops together to go after Pusan which is has less defenders. Word of caution make sure that stack attacking has lots of knights as berserkers aren’t so good against the Korea UU.

Turn 15

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ok that makes Douglas up.

Waddya expect from three stooges!! :D

Oof. That's what I get for assuming. I hadn't checked the civics for the last couple of sets and I assumed that we were in bureacracy. Nice catch Cosmichail and I'm glad you checked it!!

Hooray!! Finally a chance to expand. We probably need to keep the war going for a couple of sets and take as much Korean land as possible.

15 turns is fine now and probably makes a lot of sense with only 3 players. Let's keep it at that unless we have some lurkers join in or until Baru returns.

Glad you agree as Moe the head stooge I thought that was intentional. I say we take Korea completely as have you seen his capitol like wow. Three or four sea resources.

Cosmichail said:
Ok that makes Douglas up.

So it does....

Since we are down to three, flexibility is the order of the day. I don't think the 24/48 rule will cut it.

I'll probably have some time tomorrow, so if douglas hasn't grabbed it by then I'll go ahead and play.

Haven't we sung this song before. lalalala.....

Don't you love the smell of napalm in the morning oh yeah....
Go get that Korean and get that capitol it rules.

Got it. Should play shortly. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk....

EDIT:

Okay, finished playing now. War rounds always take a while to write up, so it will take me until tomorrow to get the report posted. Things went pretty well though....

Hail, hail, Hailstone!! Woohoo.

Time for Moe to go to war....

I notice that Cosmichail has the beginnings of a nice SOD a couple of tiles from Pusan. But I'm a cautious soul and like overwhelming force. So I sit and pick off Wangs pitiful invasion forces (two or three units at a time).

1545 AD - Kill Hwacha and treb that ventures into our territory. Think about switching to vassalage since we will be building a lot of units, but decide to pass in order to keep the economy going.

1550 AD - War can be a waiting game........

1555 AD - Lost one knight at 93% odds against a Hwacha. Finished it off with a berserker.

1560 AD - Chemistry in. Turn science slider to 0 to build cash to upgrade to grenadiers.

1565 AD - Did I mention that there is a lot of waiting in war.....

1570 AD - Huayna asks that we cancel deals with Liz. Uh, no, not right now thanks.

1575 AD - Wang offers 350 gold for a peace treaty. Since this may be one of our few chances to pick up land so I refuse and send him off with an eyepoke.

1580 AD - Waiting time is over. The attacking force:

The pitiful defense force:

The outcome was predictable:

1585 AD - Didn't expect to see one of these this quickly!!

Hmmm. What to do, what to do. I don't think we will really be building a lot of military units so settling him isn't very attractive. So I decide to try something I've read quite a bit about lately. The super level 3 medic unit. Wow, our guys really heal quickly now.

1590 AD - Lose 3 grens and 1 knight in a stronger counterattack than I thought Wang could mount. The collateral damage from those Hwachas is nasty.

1595 AD - Fend off another counterattack, no losses.

1600 AD - Get nationalism from Hannibal for chemistry. The SOD heads to Pyongyang.

1605 AD - Army is marching....

1610 AD - Trebs take down cultural defenses.....

The suspense mounts.....

1620AD -

Sweet!! Used 2 suicide trebs to soften things up. No other losses.

Scientific Method in. WE HAVE NO OIL! We need to quickly build a settler and send him south of Birka right on Hannibal's border to claim an oil tile from his territory. I'd even put that above new military builds. We will need it for defense eventually so it is important to secure a source now.

No one has steel yet so it is started for trade value.

Finished up the obligatory trades, got constitution from Huayna, that's about it.

Save it attached.
