One can never never have too many cannons. NEVER. :D

You would've been done already if you had just waited a couple turns to attack the cities ;)

Capture or found 3 cities, that is easy ... just build 3 settlers and be done with it ....

Nah, Got you. Just Kidding!

    Turn 307 (1874 AD)

    Cossack defeats (11.52/18): English Pikeman
    Grenadier defeats (10.20/12): English Cavalry
    Cossack defeats (12.96/18): English Longbowman
    Cossack defeats (12.60/18): English Longbowman

Confucianism has spread: Canterbury (English Empire)
    Confucianism has spread: Canterbury
    Captured Canterbury (Victoria)
    Razed Canterbury

    Decided against keeping it.

    That is #1.

And a barbie city was discovered in the old land ... that won't do. We must cleanse the world!!!

    Cossack defeats (9.36/18): Barbarian Longbowman
    Cossack promoted: Combat II
    Cossack defeats (18.00/18): Barbarian Longbowman

    Razed Gepid

That is #2. Thank you very much, barbs.

    Turn 309 (1878 AD)

After wasting one turn of troops movement ... we take on the most heavily guarded Victorian city:

Cannon loses to: English Cavalry (1.20/15)
    Cossack defeats (7.20/18): English Grenadier
    Cossack defeats (18.00/18): English Pikeman
    Cossack defeats (15.30/18): English Grenadier
    Cossack defeats (18.00/18): English Longbowman
    Cossack defeats (17.46/18): English Longbowman
    Cossack defeats (7.38/18): English Grenadier
    Cannon defeats (9.96/12): English Longbowman
    Maceman defeats (8.00/8): English Cavalry
    Cossack defeats (15.48/18): English Catapult

Confucianism has spread: Coventry (English Empire)
    Confucianism has spread: Coventry
    Captured Coventry (Victoria)

There must be a reason why it is most heavy guarded ... so I keep it.

That is #3. Time to consult the god again ....

    :D

    I AM LUCKY.

    NO DOUBT ABT IT.

    :D

    Swordsman promoted: Combat I
    Cossack promoted: Combat I
    Cossack defeats (3.60/18): English Pikeman
    Cossack defeats (18.00/18): English Longbowman
    Cossack defeats (13.32/18): English Longbowman
    Cossack defeats (10.44/18): English Longbowman
    Cossack promoted: Combat I
    Cossack defeats (11.34/18): English Catapult

Confucianism has spread: Hastings (English Empire)
    Confucianism has spread: Hastings
    Taoism has spread: Hastings
    Captured Hastings (Victoria)

    That is #1.

    Turn 310 (1880 AD)

    Cossack promoted: Combat II
Cossack loses to: English Grenadier (9.24/12)
    Cossack promoted: Medic I
    Cannon promoted: Accuracy
    Cannon promoted: Accuracy
Cannon loses to: English Longbowman (0.96/6)
    Cossack defeats (18.00/18): English Longbowman
    Swordsman defeats (6.00/6): English Catapult
    Rifleman defeats (14.00/14): English Longbowman

Confucianism has spread: Nottingham (English Empire)
    Confucianism has spread: Nottingham
    Captured Nottingham (Victoria)

    And that is #2.

And its time for me to sleep. Before I dream of Pouty Pants, here is the situation at the fat lady's city:

Should be able to complete this assignment in 2 turns.

In all my excitement, I forgot to change civics ... but frankly, the only civis worth changing to is Vassalage. UniSuff or Police State maybe. We don't have democracy so no Emanicipation. We don't have Communism so no State Property.

If you have been paying attention, you should noticed I have piled up quite some gold by 0% research. Feel free to upgrade units, but I suggest wait for Assem line to do a massive upgrade to Infantries.

Also note that Newcastle is the last holy city not under RNGod-Minions control. Definitely want to keep that city. I strongly suggest razing a bit more cities if we want to cleanse the world of Nappy as well ...

Nah ... as you see, plenty of cities begging to join the RNGod or rid themselves of their misery ....

Now, don't exaggerate ... its only 5 cities razed and 4 cities captured in 8 turns. Thanks to n0xie for setting me up nicely (okay, let you back in the temple). I'm afraid I did not set the next player up as nicely.

But there is a galleon up north heading to wards the southmost cities of Vicky.

    Turn 0

Turn science back on for a bit. Also my usual MM to screw a few cities up! :)

    Turn 1

Ok looks like York will be easy to take in the next couple turns, others will be a bit of a stretch since only wounded units and brand new Cannons are nearby.

I spy possibly the last of Vicky’s navy just off the coast of York. One solitary Frigate.

    Turn 2

Bombard York’s defences down to close to 0%, I’ll move my Cossacks on towards London and my Riflemen can take it in a turn or two.

London has a decent defense….if it were 300 years earlier.

Vicky doubles her Naval power with a SECOND Frigate

    Turn 3

    Assembly Line --> Scientific Method

English Frigate moves towards our 2 Frigates outside Newcastle, also forces have landed near Brighton.

The first Infantry are being built.

    Turn 4

Our worst fears have been realised.

Vicky now has Redcoats, a.k.a ‘Cossack Killers’. This puts an end to my hopes of taking London and Newcastle this turn. The attack on York goes ahead as planned.

Cannon loses to Redcoat (does a lot of damage!) :)

After that’s it’s a mopping up job with a Swordsman taking the city from a Catapult (high-tech stuff!). Captured in 1888

After a few turns of moving stuff around, I remember I might have to roll some dice. :mischief:

2+4=8 ‘Learn a tech in the next age’

Hmm I’ll take quick look at tech advisor, I reckon after Physics (which I’ll start next turn), we should go to Electricity then Industrialism.

This of course will also give us access to Tanks (in case we happen to not like the French suddenly). I hate how that happens. :crazyeye:

    Turn 5

    Scientific Method --> Physics

Newcastle is bombarded down to 0% and London is also hit badly. They are both ready to be taken next turn, despite lingering Redcoats.

Research is at 50% Physics in 5
Culture at 30% although Rome is still unhappy at –1.

Also do not assume my only pic of London here is what they have now! Half of the defenders are Redcoats now, every English city seems to have at least 2 of them.

How the hell did Vicky get redcoats so quickly? hmm.. is she in drafting mode?

I like it when there is plan forming up ... especially one involving genocide ... ... but, isn't industrialization still in this age? :crazyeye:

 Yeah, I hate that, too. It's like one day you're all chummy-chummy with the French and the *bam*. Frank Drummand: I must kill the Little Corporal. I must kill the Little Corporal. Where's Reggie Jackson when you need him?

Sorry, you know I couldn't go a whole game without at least one Naked Gun reference. My apologies especially to Fox. Now's about the time when most SG leaders start to wonder why they ever let me in. Go ahead and roll your eyes. I won't mind.

Regarding redcoats, that is a total shame. How'd she go from longbows to redcoats with no musketmen in between? Either way, this is why I had us building cannons. We did build the cannons, right?

I do now. I'll play this afternoon. Probably a post tonight.

Update: It's 1:15 my time and I've just played. I have three pages of pen-and-paper notes, so the write-up will have to wait until this evening.

    Turn 0 1890

Isabella's dead? I don't get to take out La Reyna de las Perras? Oh well, there's always Vicky, right? What does Vicky have left, anyway? I see London (I see France…), Newcastle, Liverpool, Dover, and Brighton. All but the first two are on the southern island.

More looking around shows axemen and archers busting fog on the main continent. I don't know how sophisticated the barbs are right now, but I doubt they're still sending axes and archers. Let's remember to keep some gold around incase we need to upgrade an archer to infantry in the face of a musketman.

Scary. The power graph shows Napoleon keeping pace with us. Probably has a bunch of low-end units (though I can see three cavalry). A look at the F5 screen shows that we have 33 Cossacks, 18 Cannons, 4 Riflemen, and 4 Infantry, amongst other lesser units. Militarily, we're doing just fine.

Let's check-in RNGod-wise. We've got 28 turns to get a next-gen tech. I whip out my handy-dandy tech fold-out and see that we're in the orange group. Gray is next. The first group in gray are Refrigeration, Radio, Rocketry, and Flight. Here's our path to each:

    Refrigeration: Physics 5, Biology 5, Electricity 8, Refrigeration 7. Total = 25.

    Radio: Physics 5, Electricity 8, Radio 11. Total = 24.

    Rocketry: Physics 5, Artillery 6, Rocketry 9. Total 20.

    Flight: Physics 5, Flight 9. Total 14.

Now, I know Danski wanted a path to Industrialism for tanks. However, both in variant terms and game terms, I veto this idea. In variant terms, that path takes longer than 28 turns. Physics, Electricity, Assembly Line, Industrialism, Plastics (the closest gray tech) has got to be more than 28. In game terms, though, I don't see anyone not of RNGod persuasion left on this planet by the time we research the requirements, build tanks, and ferry them over.

Flight can arrive in 14 turns and we can rebase fighters to whichever cities we occupy. To me flight is more immediately useful, so that's the path I set.

For the rest of my turn 0, I decide not to MM anything. Can I put in a vote that we turn on governors and emphasis for our cities?

    Anyhow, press enter…

IBT Vicky's navy takes out a fishing boat (don't know where) and bombards Seville to 36%. The funny thing is, she's got absolutely no troops anywhere near Seville. Go ahead, toots. Bombard to your heart's content.

    Turn 1 1892

Bangalore, Bombay, and Barcelona all finish Cossacks and begin Infantry. We have about 10 workers sleeping in Barcelona and I set them to work building railroads. (Guilt-ridden confession: I set about six to automate trade routes. Breathe, Fox, breath. Count to 10. Calm. Calm.)

    The Battle for London

Defenses are at 20-something percent. One cannon takes it to 0. I suicide my second cannon. We now have one Redcoat at 9.3/16 and two at 14.6. The Mighty IPM, who is now a Grenadier so renamed to IPG , has 96% odds, but that's against a Longbow. Why does the Longbow have better odds than the Redcoats?

Anyhow, none of my Cossacks have great odds against the Redcoats, so I send in another cannon. This one withdraws and we now have Redcoats of 12, 8, and 13.3 strength.

I send in the first Cossack at 70.3% and he withdraws after taking his foe to 3.6. Cossack two wins at 84.5%. Cossack three wins at 88.8%. Now it's time for IPG to take out the Longbow and he does so quite easily. All London has now are a wounded Pikeman, a very wounded Redcoat, and a Catapult.

Send another Cossack at the wounded Pikeman. 98.9% odds and he loses!!! Take a look at this RNGod-be-damned combat log. Note, I had to piece it together from 2 screeies because, since the patch, I can no longer resize it vertically. Anyone else have that problem?

Oh well, two more Cossacks and a Cannon mop up and London is captured and kept.

    The Battle for Newcastle

I suicide a cannon, but the bastard refuses to follow orders, preferring to withdraw. A Cossack relieves Vicky of a Newcastellean Longbow and two cannons mop up the slops. Newcastle is captured and also kept.

Vicky no longer has a presence on the mainland, so I start bring many troops down to Newcastle where they'll heal and take the ferry to Liverpool. After a while, the number of troops gets ridiculous, so I start sending a few north in case Napoleon asks us over for dinner.

Lastly, Vick had brought a Frigate up next to one of our loaded Galleons near Moscow so I had to hide in the city.

Take a look at our darling of a culture algorithm. Where's that coming from?

    IBT

    Turn 2 1894

Turn one took forever so I just hit shift-enter. Just kidding. Nothing much did happen, though. Statue of Liberty completes in Novgorod and so I start a Cannon. Hun completes a Library and begins an Observatory. Otherwise, just a bunch of troop movement.

IBT watch that barb galley go back and forth about seven times.

    Turn 3 1896

I get a congratulator message on completing our first gunpowder unit (Infantry). Huh? Our Cossacks use slingshots? Anyhow, Madras builds an Infantry and starts another. Lastly, Hastings comes out of revolt and begins a Lighthouse.

IBT Vicky's Frigate comes back to haunt Moscow. She chose poorly.

    Turn 4 1898

We've got a lot of war wariness amongst the minions. I'm thinking we just hit some sort of milestone because many of the cities started smoking this turn.

Moscow is seriously angry and is now starving. It, along with St. Petersburg and Rostov, completes an Infantry. They all three begin more Infantry. Novgorod completes a Cannon and begins and Infantry. Rome finishes a Harbor and builds an Observatory. Madrid goes from Barracks to University. Nottingham comes out of revolt and begins a courthouse. And--finally--Sevelle wraps up a Jewish Temple and starts a Frigate (which will become a destroyer next turn when we hook up the oil).

We've got angry everywhere. Lots of it. It would seem that the average minion doesn't like all the killing we've been dishing out. So to placate the masses, I plunge the empire into two turns of anarchy and revolt to Police State and Emancipation (also a good source of unhappiness).

I finally decide to grow tired of Vicky's insolent Frigate that returned to box in our Galleons at Moscow, so I upgrade them both to transports (135 each) and load them up.

    Turn 5 It's the 20th century!

Coventry comes out of revolt and begins a Theater. Then one of our laden Transports scuttles that Frigate at Moscow. (99% odds)

IBT Vicky attacks a frigate near Liverpool and the slut wins. :aargh: We come out of anarchy with a lot less unhappy in our world.

    Turn 6 1902

    The Battle for Liverpool

Two cannons bombard defenses from 24% to 6%. Our best odds are now 24.5% against the Redcoats, but they're not getting any better. Send the first Cossack in at 24.5% and he withdraws. Another dies, also at 24.5% odds but the two ‘coats are severely wounded. Our third Cossack has 73% odds and he withdraws. Damn. Anyhow, it's mop-up from here as two more Cossacks take the city. Liverpool is captured and kept.

IBT Vicky's Frigate reappears near Seville

    Turn 7 1904

Physics comes in and I chose Flight, due in 10. Calcutta finishes a Cannon. Antium finishes Infantry. Warwick finishes a granary. All three begin Infantry.

    :smoke: ALERT!!!

I realized that we came out of anarchy last turn, but I never adjusted the sliders to reflect our new happiness levels. I was able to take down the Culture to 0% (from 30%) and raise the Science from 50% to 60% without any unhappy anywhere. Now, we're gaining 72 gold per turn instead of losing 100. This will come in handy when we want to turn a few horses into helicopters.

Anyhow, Vicky has a Frigate threatening our Newcastle ferry line. It's wounded, being the Frigate that won up in turn 5, so I attack at 83% odds with a Frigate of RNGod's blessing. And we lose. Good thing we have two more in the vicinity. The next one wins at 100% odds.

    Turn 8 1906

Novgorod plays the Infantry shuffle and Yaroslavl swaps a Cossack for a Destroyer. Otherwise, I just move troops down toward Dover.

    Turn 9 1908

Bangalore and Madras both finish and begin Infantry. York comes out of rebellion and begins a Theater. Newcastle also hangs their rebel scum and begin a Courthouse.

The Battle for Dover (not Delaware)

Two Frigates bombard the ramparts down to 16% and two cannons finish it down to 0%. Two Cossacks die at 26% and 36% odds, respectively. I promote a cannon to raider II and he kills himself a Redcoat. Another gets a shiny new raider I promotion and celebrates by taking a ‘coat over his knee. Dover is captured and kept.

I now have one more turn to get troops across the narrow channel and over to Brighton if I want the honor of being the headsman.

IBT Vicky's Frigate near Coventry pillages a fishing boat. Not much I can do about it, other than make it disappear when Vicky does.

    Turn 10 1910

Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novgorod, Rostov, Barcy, and Bombay all finish Infantry units and all begin new Infantry units. Coventry finishes a Theater and begins a Lighthouse.

    The Battle for Brighton

This might be tough. I've got two Cossacks and a Cannon on land and another three of each in Galleons next to the city. The city is protected by two Redcoats. Can I unload my other three Cossacks and attack in the same turn?

To test, I use the mouse to make one "go-to" the city. To my surprise, he goes *directly* to the city, without touching land first. He dies and I had to check the combat log to see that it was 3.5% odds and counted as an amphibious attack. I thought only the amphibious promotion allowed you to attack from ships. Guess I was wrong.

Anyhow, I send land-based troops in now and kill off another Cossack before a Cossack and a Cannon play clean-up.

Brighton is captured. Brighton is kept. No more Vicky….

    Wait a minute….huh?

1055 points still? Vicky's not dead? KAAAAHHHHHNNN!!!!!

Okay, so I hoaxed the victories screenie in PhotoShop. But that's what it *should* have looked like.

Crap. Vicky's nowhere to be seen. I spend the rest of my last turn sending out units to look for Shangri-La. My guess is she's either in our home continent's southwest ice field or she has a settler in a galley somewhere in the middle of the ocean. There's also a small island just north of France that she might have grabbed.

Damn! I so wanted to be the axe that lops that ugly arse-faced horse's head off. :sigh: It's up to the next guy, I guess.

Here's the real victories screen, if anyone cares...

Edit: to the next poor sob who gets to follow in this SG, Vicky still breathing leaves us some issues. We have huge yearning for the homeland unhappinies so the culture slider might need to go up. Also, there's a Frigate near Coventry that will pillage some more. I had left it alone planning for it to disappear. Also, not mentioned in my report are the two staging areas that I've built up for an attack on Napoleon: Madrid has about 25 troops and Seville has probably 15. Happy hunting!
