Fox06 - Waiting For Swords

Nice bad joke vra. But how are you quantifying the badness of our jokes?

As for the ToA, will it really help us that much? Doubling our trade routes won't provide too much bonus, since we don't have extra trade routes and we only have one city. I haven't looked at the save but aren't there better wonders to produce?

Of-course not, why else would I go for ToA? :crazyeye:

Before Lit, there is only Parthenon and ToA (enabled by Poly). Now we have Lit, TGL and NE are enabled. So, if the next player wants to, he can switch to NE which is a lot more useful. But I still advise continuing with ToA: #1 - esp for OCC, the value of a wonder is not only its usefulness to us but also its denial to competitors; and #2 - NE is a nat wonder, no one is snatching it from us.

If we want, we can trade for Maths and make a run for Hanging Gardens (need construction). But there is only Maths out there worth trading. We could of-course trade for nonsensical stuff like sailing, but will have to be careful abt the WFYABTA limit.

Speaking of wonders, in case someone haven't realize, that is the true reason I send a lone axe up north to clear the barbs. We need a lvl 4 unit to enable the HE.

BTW, we wil go for 10~15 turns each, depending on players wish. Obviously it is better to stop when something is produced or researched, rather than trying to keep the turn # good ;)

My bad joke:

Why would anyone play a SG with Fox ?

Spoiler :
Because getting whipped by a domina is much more expensive...

On the first turns battles raged across the land. We tried to get more XP for our sturdy axe, and we succeeded in part...

99506353bu2.jpg

Drama came in. Globe Theatre anyone ? :yup:

44433283yl0.jpg

Wang suggested a trade. No thanks, buddy...

19436856gv0.jpg

However I put up a deal with Brennus. We don't need health but happiness, at least as long as we don't have the Globe yet...

94883509ok3.jpg

Math came in...

55163412mu4.jpg

...and we went for Metal Casting and forges...

78234209eh4.jpg

The Temple of Artemis was BIDL (and so was the Hanging Gardens) when we were six turns away. The Globe will benefit us more anyway !

72458398aw2.jpg

We spawned a GS. I built the Academy which dropped Metal Casting from 7 to 5 turns immediately...

61460009ql2.jpg

Then Hatty stopped by. Sure, just kick a civilization when it's down ;) .

14319862pg8.jpg

I conceded because Literature after all is pretty useless now that we've built TGL. She went to pleased as you can see on the next screenie by that big smile in her face...

10yi4.jpg

She sent us Priesthood in exchange for free. Still a crappy trade, but you've got to take what you get.

11tl9.jpg

Seeing that everyone had Alphabet except Washy I traded for some stuff:

12jf5.jpg

Metal Casting came in...

13zi5.jpg

...and I chose CoL heading towards Civil service and the OCC-uber-civic Bureaucracy. No beakers invested yet though.

14pm8.jpg

The next player may be able to pull some trades...

15gz6.jpg

...and here's our growing "empire" !

free priesthood, while cool, is probably not worth the WFYABTA limit. Selling literature to Wang for some cash may be useful. Or do we have no use for cash? After globe is completed, we have to rearrange our trades for health. Oh wait, I'm up aren't I...

got it.

Love the joke imhotep.

:whipped:

And I am supposed to feel honored Imhotep think of my that way ...

Anyway, here is your cheap thrill: :whipped:

Instead of working on the 3F1C plain vanilla farm, should change to a high food farm. Once forge is in, our happiness will increase.

But good call on switching to a forge first.

Our next scientists should probably lightbulb Philo if Taoism is still available ... although we don't need the associated happiness, but we do need the religion for OR or Pac.

We really should watch what we trade for ... WFYABTA limit is no joke on Emperor.

Research wise, I am okay with CoL (Caste = more scientists / merchant) , but would like to offer an alternative: Music. Grab the free artist ... with Music out of the way, the GA will probably lightbulb some useful tech (like CoL ) plus it denies the AI the free artists. Need to check the GA's tech preference though.

I think you're officially on the bottom of the "bad joke" scoreboard! :D

I was forging a plan here to take Theology and found Christianity, but I just checked the save and it has already been founded...
Anyway, the list is there!

Hey, Mr. Fox... Can the place where you're going to have BtS available? You'll be away when your sword arrives, won't you? Murphy's law rules!

Good luck, shyuhe.

Ah, according to that list, the GA will LB Monarchy, not very useful  Our best hope is still for Hatty to spread us a religion then (which is better than founding one our own, it keeps her happy).

About growth, forge will add +2 happy faces (gold, good trade by the way, and gems). So next player may want to consider going for NE first before Globe if it will complete before we exceed happy cap (most probably not, but no harm checking).

@FBelintani: I am heading to Hawaii ... yeah, BtS should be available  But I was hoping my BtS arrives today or tomorrow (it should).

Mr. Fox, thanks for remembering to change my profile!
Can you believe I dreamed about changing it this night?
Please, call me FB. :mischief:

I looked at the save and have two questions. Looking at the trade opportunities, we have some chances to start some wars. Should we start them?

Wang will go after Brennus for lit + drama + metal casting. Asoka will go after Hannibal for lit + drama + metal casting. Wang will also go after Hannibal, his religious friend (ya... backstabber) for the same cost as going after Brennus, if we want to dogpile Hannibal instead. Unfortunately, Hatty won't dirty her hands and Washington is... just too weak. I'd like to ask the team about the possible war bribes before I play my turn set.

And is there any reason why we're stagnating the city instead of growing it to max size? We can always whip away the excess pop if we need to later and the globe will be coming online around the end of my turn set.

I don't know abt war-bribing. The question how does it help us? As I see it, we are just giving away techs to civs so that they will get stronger through capturing the victim's cities. Unless you feel that Brennus/Hannibal is going to DoW on us, or you want to improve relations with Wang and Asoka (latter implies we must follow up with our own DoW).

As it is right now, I don't see a reason to do that, but then the diplomatic mechanism of the game is one of my weakest area.

On city growth: yeah, I have already :whipped: Imhotep for that ;), you are welcome to flog him again. It is not worth the pop - hammer ratio IMHO to whip for wonders, but we can always temporarily switch to build an axe or something and have overflow to Globe/NE.

With forge in, our happy limit should increase by 2 (Gems + Gold). Question is whether is it necessary to go for Globe first or should we switch to NE? Globe is needed if we are near/at/exceed happy limit and not gonna whip. If you plan to whip, NE has a more beneficial effect.

I agree with Mr. Fox on this, shyuhe. Causing havoc between the AIs is only useful, IMO, if I think some of them would declare on me soon. But, as Mr Fox, diplomacy is my weakest skill on CIV... :mischief:

I think war bribes will become necessary at some point to slow down the tech speed of the AI. If they start pillaging cottages, then their tech speed will slow down, and they'll be less inclined to have OB with each other which makes the research rate slower as well. We can only compete so much with one city doing all the research. But we can worry about that in the future...

That being said, I had a lot offers for trades etc. since I didn't divulge any of our secrets.

First, Asoka came by:

Asoka came again:

Next was Hannibal:

And last was Brennus on the last turn I played (I think I played 14 turns)

They were all sent packing.

Now for research, I switched to music as suggested by GreyFox. We won the race but the bulb was for monarchy. I decided to settle the GA instead of bulbing or saving for a GA (golden age) since the artists gives +3 beakers under representation and we can try to raze some cities with a culture push. Plus, we're going to be using our first GS for an academy anyways and we'll have better uses for a GE, so I don't think we'll be pulling a GA anytime soon. Thus, the decision to settle.

Speaking of GP's, we popped a GE who is waiting in the capitol. Feel free to rush a wonder of your choice, but I would urge that we avoid artist buildings as much as possible since we're going to have two sources already with the NE and Globe. NE will complete next turn and we can build the Globe after that. The Globe will complete before we pick up a red shirt anyways. I have not had luck on a religion spreading to us though

I also picked up two trade deals - one for  with Asoka that we should cancel once the Globe is complete. Another is for fish with Wang.

And I found out why Washington's score sucks so much for an emperor AI:

Poor guy! The religions have also started to spread amongst the AI. I think Brennus and Hannibal are going to become one block as warmongers and Asoka + Hatty will be the peace buddies. I don't know which side Wang will fall on...

Research went music --> CoL --> CS. I also got a free 200 gold off of Wang (he had about 640 when I relieved him of some of his cash).

And finally my joke. I hope you guys have some appreciation for math and your momma jokes (this might be an American thing though).

Your mom's so fat, the integral of your mom is fat + a constant C, where C is more fat

Edit: Oh and don't forget to cancel our gold for cow deal with Brennus once the Globe is complete. I'd rather not pick up penalties for trade embargoes (either for doing it or refusing to do so) if we can help it since the key to winning this game will probably be diplomatic manipulation.

Hmmm ... so you went for Music even though FB and I concluded the GA will lightbulb Monarchy? No matter, Music is a good trading chip. Plus we could use the superartist's gold and beakers.

My humble suggestions ... feel free to blatantly ignore them (and get whipped ;)):

We should really trade Music away to get things construction, Monarchy, currency, etc that will put us back to tech race.

We should also revolt to Caste (do it now, before NE is built), and maximize scientists (we want to ensure we get a Great Scientist next for lightbulbing Philo). The city should also be allowed to grow slightly faster than Globe. It is okay to have a redshirt for one or turn before Globe come online. Grow is key now.

The Great Engineer could be saved for something useful later ... or settled right now for immediate beakers + hammers benefits. I don't mind either.

We should build one or two units i(spears, I suggest) in between infrastructure to keep ourselves from falling too much behind in power. It doesn't look pretty right now. We should also consider gifting 50~100 gold to some of the pleased civ once we have currency.

Feedback – Highly dreadful. 8.5/10!

Shyuhe – More groaners! 8.2/10!

r_rolo1 - DREADFUL joke, but the punch line was so darn long I caught myself with a smile! 5/10

Greyfox – Bad perhaps…jury of barbs is still out. 4.5/10

Imhotep – Pal, I think you missed the point of the competition here…3.5/10!

I do actually have some quasi-sceintifc formula I'm using here. Will explain it a bit later.

not ranking lurker jokes?

GreyFox - why do you recommend gifting 50-100 gold to pleased civs? I don't think that's enough to get a +1 fair trade bonus.

How are we going to approach the diplomacy of this game? We can't possibly build a large enough military to keep the warmongers off of our back. Are we just going to try to reach pleased status with all of the AIs and hope they don't drag us into any wars? I would much prefer to bribe the AIs into two warring camps so that they don't trade as much and hope they pillage each other's land.

I agree on trading out music to catch up on some techs. Although currency really doesn't add to our economy
