Freeciv

thanks to a friend i have FreeCIV 2.1. and i love it!
it took me a while to get a hang on how it works (didn't find the tutorial till after:( ) but now i'm doing well.

better graphics would be nice but i also have version 1.14. and since then graphics are SO much better! :D

in short i have been :assimilate:

A pretty new one. Downloaded like some months ago.
I didn't like Civ 2 graphics neither, couldn't stand them. Actually liked Civ 1 more.
It's just that in the colour there's to much contrast and the tiles don't seem to fit with each other very well.
And the the interface in Free Civ is all about dropdown menues which is quite annoying with so much stuff.

Look these graphics, despite being suckier are better and easier to look at: http://www.happypenguin.org/images/fcca2.png

Also quite good but empty.
Same for Civ 3...but modding fixed that. Still much more pleasant to look at.

Why not just ask some people here if you can use their graphics? The Civ 3 graphics made by modders could easily be used for Free Civ? There's a new project going about now to create a new civilization game but it seems its headed by a very small group of modders/programers and that might take time. Why not try to unite forces?

The thread is somewhere in Civ 3 main forum about Creation and Customization.

edit: I also think that the resolution is a problem. It's to low, making the City names take up so much place and cover so much of the little screen that you have.

Otherwise the game is good, It's a little more complicated than Civ 2/3 and that's interesting...but meh.

Freeciv is a Windows game ported to Linux and Mac. I don't know about the Linux port, but the Mac version is a half-arsed job. (Anything that needs X11 as a crutch in order to run on the Mac is a half-arsed job.) You run Windows you should be fine. You run Linux you might be fine. You run Mac, be prepared for too much fussbudget stuff.

Port Freeciv to the Mac for real!

I (re)acquired Freeciv just the other day. Good times. :goodjob:

Here's how they avoid copyright infringement....

Instead of spearmen, they have the archers defeating tanks! That's much more reasonable, assuming you can hit down the turret gun with your arrow. ;)

This thread is like a window through the history of CFC.

Hmmm... I wonder if I should bother getting this again... :/
last time I did I just ended up ignoring it...
